The real redpill is they want to do this so they can disable them someday and you'll have to buy it from the goy store.
>>
What's the problem with game key cards exactly? Aren't they just digital games? PC has been digital only for over a decade. The Steam Deck doesn't support physical games at all.

It’s the worst of both worlds
>despite being physical you still have to download the game and it takes up space in your console storage
>despite being a digital download you still have to plug in the cart every time you wanna play
>and if anything happens to the online service, it renders the cart useless

>>
>>732356520
We are. What's going to be great is when this game doesn't sell yet again on the Switch 2 despite it being all on the cart.
>>
>>732357243
It's still better than digital/code anyway because you can borrow or sell it. Is it really that hard to get up from your chair and plug in the cartridge?
>>
>>732357727
>because you can borrow or sell it.
That doesn't benefit me.

>>732355102
Even the Bomberman collection?
>>
>>732356950
The Switch 2 has a 256gb hard drive, less with the OS installed. So it's companies cheaping out so that (you) have to pay for extra storage. The cost is pushed onto consumers by Nintendo and third party devs and the cards are expensive.
>>
>>732356520
Nah.
>>
>>732355186
THAT GAME BELONGS IN A MUSEUM
>>
>>732356950
Valve have never threatened to shut off their servers. Nintendo have, repeatedly.
>>
>>732357865
>That doesn't benefit me.
It does. The choice is yours. Digital/code means someone else got to decide for you.
>>
>>732355102
It's only because the developer Machine Games wants to do it, has nothing to do with Bethesda. They had to put in a lot of work to squeeze 120GB onto the cartidge, on top of taking a cut of their own profit margin. The cartridges are $18 apiece.
>>
>>732357243
Well said. It's a "solution" looking for a problem to create.
>>
>>732356520

>>
>>732355574

>>
>>732357865
Bomberman collection is a physical Switch 1 cartrdige, with a free Switch 2 upgrade I believe.
>>
>>732356397
Pretty sure bomberman is a proper switch 2 physical too
>>
>>732358036
You can still redownload Wii games you own.
>>
>>732358284
If I had to speculate it's because it's a brand new entry and not an older title, and because of the backlash it had previously gotten for having discs for PS5 and Series X not contain the game.
>>
>>732356950
You can make your own physicals for steam deck, just put the files on an SD card, print a label for it and pop it in.

Save it for the Famitsu threads.
>>
>>732358534
It's worse, on Bethesda's website it says both Fallout 4 and Oblivion Remaster are codes in a box.

Give it another ten years and I believe nintendo will do something even dumber. Then people might forget all about the retarded game cards
>>
>>732358871
Its not even that dumb. Its just trying to push us toward the all digital future. Video games are the last medium to not see wide spread digital adoption
>>
>>732355554

>>
>>732355102

>>
>>732356520
To be completely honest, I think Game Key Cards would be accepted sooner if the box art for every GKC game weren't so ugly.
>>
>>732359076
Disagree.
PC had a brief period where you could buy a digital key for cheaper than physical and that made sense because you weren't getting all the cool shit that comes with a game.
Meanwhile console games have dialed back what you actually get since the 360, scaling manuals back, not giving out posters unless you buy the collectors edition, and this is made yet worse with Nintendo's EVERGREEN pricing. So you're going to pay 60-70 dollars per game til the end of time, and you don't get any of the benefits of the physical box or the manual, or the art book, or the poster.
>>
>>732357243
How do players justify paying for this?
>>
>>732359479
it's portable!!

>>732358063

Well, I think we're sort of on the same page here. The whole idea with Game Key Cards is supposed to be that consumers get the benefits of a physical game (game in the form of a box and cart that they can resell) while developers don't have to shell out as much money to get a physical game produced.
Game Key Cards are already inferior to normal physical games because of the games not actually being on the cart, so, really, they need to be selling consumers on other aspects of physical games to make it worth it. A cool thing to have on your shelf is one of those aspects, and good box art is the bare minimum. A big ugly banner slapped on the cover of every GKC game is the opposite of what someone who wants a cool thing to have on their shelf wants.
>>
>>732359907
It's pretty, but what service does it serve to do this when the data is already assumably on the Deck?
>>
>>732359972
Yeah, hard agree, and I don't think this is the end either.
Sony made this
https://youtu.be/kWSIFh8ICaA?si=ERF-eDAODMjyxPZZ
To clown on Xbox games being tied to your account, and one console generation later we saw them pivot to the same exact shit where most of your games are tied to your console/account now.
We are 1 bad generation away from Nintendo going "tchhhhh sorry guys, I know we said you could share games, but given current economic conditions, go fuck yourself!"

if Nintendo takes a game off the eshop, the game key card is worthless, but a game with all the data on the cart ~should~ be fine (except most games launch with day 1 patches and the carts are useless without them). Nintendo's internal storage also sucks donkey balls and the SD cards are 2x the price of an equivalent SD card for the steam deck due to read speed BS. You wouldn't have enough storage to keep all 3 final fantasy 7 remake games on your Switch at the same time without an SD card.

They are digital games you can hold and resell. Like every "physical game" released in the last 10 years.
>>
>>732355574
>>732358284

The other 2 had to die so Indiana Jones could live. Would you prefer 3 game key cards? Or 2 code in box and 1 real game card?
>>
>>732361007
How do you figure? There are plenty of delisted games on Xbox 360/PS3 that can be downloaded and updated just fine.
>>
>>732361149
And the Wii has been hacked wide open so its a non issue.

Stop obsessing about "preservation" and larping like some professional archivist and play video games instead.
>>
>>732359780
Of course. But this was your choice. If you want to, you can sell or lend your games. If your friends want to try a game, you can lend it, even if you don't want to right now. Even if you don't want to sell your games, keycards can be sold by other people, making game prices go down. Digital-only protects sellers from second-hand markets and gives greater control to the storefronts.
>>
>>732360385
>>732360385
I get that but I don't see what these SD cards are actually doing, do they just run a script to start a installed game on the deck or are they pirated copies containing the entire game?
>>
>>732355102
I wonder if this is a performance issue. On PC this game requires raytracing.

He just has the game installed on the microsd cards. Steam deck allows hotswapping sd cards, though personally I wouldn't trust it to constantly eject the cards. But basically its like installing a game on an external harddrive and unplugging it whenever you're not playing.

Yes. And with keycards too. But not with digital/code.

>>732362330
Physical games are notoriously cheaper than digital. Your point being?
>>
I never thought I'd live to see people defend not owning games and buying empty boxes but here we are.
>>
>>732362567
>Yes. And with keycards too. But not with digital/code.
There's no benefit to a game being a game key card so there's also no reason for any physical release to be a game key card.
