I want to play the first Katamari game, but I don't know what version I should choose, the OG or the REROLL version. From what I see they look the same but with higher graphics.

Is this one of the few cases where the remaster is objectively better and improves everything or does it change stuff for the worst?

It's basically a 1:1 remaster. It's missing one song, unfortunately my favorite song in the game, but just play reroll.
>>
It has an alternate control scheme that you might prefer.

Genuinely good versions of a great game only brought down by the knowledge that the original creator had no interest in making more (thats why they keep remaking the 2 games over and over) so it is somewhat soulless for that.
>>
Does it give anyone else crazy motion sickness? I can’t play this game
>>
>>732364228
Played bolh versions. Recommend Reroll. It's just better in every way.
>>
>>732364609
Not really. The 180 maneuver can trigger it if you do it over and over again but you have to do that to yourself and it would never come up naturally in gameplay.
The graphical effect of the map expanding might make you queasy if you have japanese tier motion sickness, but probably not.
The games handle motion really well.

I played Reroll and didn't notice any of the issues I saw people claiming in the reviews on Steam.
>>

I've read that they made some improvements following the original vision, but I'm not sure.

I'm talking about the REROLL version of damacy, the first one.

What song?
>>732364513
Difference?
>>732364865
Can you tell me more please?
>>
Emulate the original if you want to do shenanigans with save states, otherwise just play reroll
>>

The old one has this weird thing where you have to flick the two analog sticks in different directions to make the ball roll. The new one just simplifies it to "left stick to move it". Some people prefer the old way though.

The improvements are incredibly minor but not nothing. They made the we heart katamari control scheme the basic and I think changed a few of the challenge levels so you didn't have to guess the size as much. I remember the cow level being less infuriating.
Also, it has proper free roam mode so you can play levels to your hearts content instead of always on a timer, makes it easy to collect all the gifts and such.

The original is good but We Love Katamari is basically the same game with more content. It also has a Reroll version.
>>
Reroll is a straight upgrade barring a couple of small but reasonable concessions. It regularly goes on sale super cheap too. Definitely worth it.

>(thats why they keep remaking the 2 games over and over)
they just came out with an entirely new game, Once Upon A Katamari, a few months ago. The creator is now publicly lamenting the fact that he doesn't own the IP, saying he now has to move his family from San Fran back to Japan because he ran out of money, lol

>It regularly goes on sale super cheap too.
Why do you think the marketer has made so many threads recently?
>>732365438
Good to hear he kept his morals.
>>
>>732365438
His latest game was about a kid that can't stop T-posing and what living with that is like.

While I don't particularly mind him doing stuff like that, I feel like that as a concept doesn't translate nearly as naturally to a fun video game as Katamari did, and that aspect is what made Katamari popular.
>>
>>732365273
this
It's one of the few instances in gaming where a sequel just thoroughly mogs the first game in just about every aspect
>>
>>732365273
For what it's worth, both are so cheap regularly that it doesn't hurt to play both in order. While it's not like story is relevant, considering We Love plays heavily into the fact its a sequel, it doesn't hurt to play both.
>>
>>732364998
>What song?
Wanda. I'm almost certain it wasn't in reroll, and for no real reason either.
>>
>>732367227
it's in the multiplayer mode
iirc reroll is based off the japanese version which doesn't play wanda wanda in the first level
>>
>>732365904
Yeah the first game is sincere while the second is just
>People loved the first game so let’s do it again for the fans.
Once Upon A Katamari is good too for what it’s worth but it’s also more of the same with new coats of paint.
>>
not OP but I want to play we love katamari, is the remaster good?
>>
the remaster messes up the detail of the katamari turning into a ball of junk once it reaches a certain size to help sell the illusion
>>
>>732368115
what?
>>
>>732364228
The perfect video game doesn't exi....
>>
>>732369245
in the original game, when you're playing the later levels with fuckhueg katamaris once it reaches a certain size the actual model of the katamari itself changes into and indistinct ball of junk, so that it looks like everything you've rolled up is still there and hides the illusion that the things you rolled into the katamari eventually despawn as you grow in size
in the remaster they missed this detail, so you'll see the actual katamari with just buildings and shit glued to it and it breaks the illusion of everything you already rolled up still being there
>>
>>732367590
Its also basically a 1:1 remaster.
