I would say the NES era games and PS1/N64 era games both aged a lot worse than SNES/Megadrive and PS2/Gamecube era games.
I never understood why people hated the tank controls in the Resident Evil games. I find that I have tank controls in real life anyways

Games are still an immature medium growing up with its first generation of consumers.
Sometimes I'll play an old game and think "this is kind of ass." But then I put myself in the mindset of someone buying that game in whatever year it came out in and try to see what they saw in it. I thought Diablo 1 was kinda bad but the second time I played it I ended up playing until like 5am.
