Is there a banished-like that surpasses the original?

what kind of game are you looking for? if it's just comfy city building with some narrative you could play some of the older games like pharaoh or zeus. the story missions can get a bit autistic but most of them are pretty chill
i've been trying others here and there and it seems like most of them are in early access. the ones that stood out to me were Builders of Greece, Pioneers of Pagonia, and Roman Triumph, but they were all in early access (actually pioneers of pagonia had its full release in december but i never got around to playing the full release)
