man, i dont know what they changed but the boss quality took a fucking nose dive compared to nioh 2

maybe its just that they took away some really important mechanics (yokai skills) and gave us shit replacements (guardian skills) but lots of bosses just feel like utter dogshit to play against. finished the map 1 boss and he's just a fucking wall, even against tonfas there's just like, nothing you can do but wait for him to do something for most of the fight because he will just face tank anything you do (as a human boss, which is fucking cheating bullshit and would never fly in nioh 1 or 2, and when they did they got fucking lambasted for it)

even the returning bosses feel bad, not sure what it is. its not that i'm out of practice because i was playing a fuck ton of nioh 2 before the game released, you just feel weaker in this game than in the others.

they litter the overworld with trash mobs but the bosses just have some fucking elden ring level tracking and tech chase you for some reason when they never have before. its literally never been hard to eat elixers before but bosses seem to input read you or some shit. it feels horrid comparatively. its genuinely not nioh anymore

Yokai (and yokai bosses) only have hyper armor while they have ki, drain that with attacks, active skills, or the 2 magic systems to drain it quickly. Once they're out of ki you can go ham with the combos to deal actual damage and stop them from acting at all, until you deal enough damage to go for a final blow (a critical hit if you're familiar with Souls games). For humans their ki naturally regens like yours does, and their blocking will bounce low and mid stance attacks but not high stance. Same mechanics still apply, drain their ki by either dealing damage or hitting them with high break attacks to drain their ki and open them for a grapple/final blow. No enemy actually knows what you're going to do next and can often be baited into playing footsies with you so you can get free hits in and start a short combo. This isn't Elden Ring, the enemies don't magically read your inputs. They will however humble you very quickly if you aren't careful.

Yeah, the lack of Ki Pulse on Ninja is a significant nerf to Tonfa, can't Demon Dance for anywhere near as long.
It's more in line with the others now, and I find it way easier with Splitstaff, Hatchet and n2Kat to tear through Ki.

I think there's a situation going on with Nioh 3 that also happened with Elden Ring. The fights in Elden Ring felt bad cause they were overtuned. The fandom that had been playing Fromsoft soulsborne games since 2009 had gotten too good at figuring out Fromsoft's boss fights. So, with Elden Ring, they had to do shit that didn't feel right, but were effective at tricking the player, creating a sense of confusion and challenge. I think something like that is happening in Nioh 3 because the Nioh fandom has just been trained too well.

Seems like DLAA with framegen is a better experience from my limited testing.
