HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO ORGANIZE MY GAMES FOLDER
>>
>>732555775
THE SAME WAY YOU ORGANIZE YOUR DILATORS OP
>>
>>732555775
What's a "folder"?
>>
>>732555775
What the fuck is there to organize? Just make a folder "vidya" on your desktop and put shortcuts in there

In fact I do that but since the OP wanted some organization I suggested the folder. I also have all memes and clipboard stuff just saved straight to desktop
>>
>new folder
>rename it to "games"
>dump all of your games in it
Its easy. I dunno why you retards make shit so complicated
>>
Evengelion sucks but kare kano is incredible as fuck.

This, the only real organization you need is to have Windows and everything else on separate partitions so that you can format and reinstall the OS without touching your stuff

Just make a "Games" folder on the root of your drive, drop shit in, then delete stuff whenever you need space.

Ermmmm the way I do it is I have a separate SSD for vidya with a folder structure as follows:
>Abandon (games that are abandonware / gog / pirated are installed here)
>Emu (all roms for emulators, further organized in subfolders by platform ie duckstation, pcsx2, yuzu etc)
>Launcher (containing the 3 subfolders below)
>>Origin (I prefer to buy shit that has the EA 3rd party launcher like Crysis 3 or Mass Effect 3 here rather than on Steam because I hate having to open 2 launchers, also some games like Syndicate 2012 are only available here)
>>Steam (main library and source of my vydyas)
>>Ubi (same reasoning as origin except with uplay this time, stuff like Asscreeds 2 onwards and Far Cry 3 onwards)
Also got a "Games" folder on my desktop featuring shortcuts to all my installed games, organized by genre

>C:/Games/Backlog.txt
List of vidya installed with name, dev team, year of initial pc release, metacritic rating of initial pc release
>D:/Backup/Games/Downloads

>I usually don't use icons
Yeah me neither, I just save shit there and use it mostly as an extended clipboard or just another folder where I keep stuff in case I want to send it to a friend over telegram or shitpost on 4chan etc
When it's full I just send them all to a folder in my storage drive, the folders are named desktop-dd-mm-yy and so far I have never even opened a single one of them

You think that's bad? Try doing it with Hgames. "Oh that's easy, just sort them by main theme" to which I then, naturally, reply "But what then, pray tell, of the ones that have two main themes, such as tentacle + huge titties?"

>>
>>732558121
Obviously the software stuff inside should be somewhat organized but if you just put all your games into one bucket titled vidya you can just organize the shortcuts instead, making the whole process far simpler than organizing them under the hood

I'm a sucker for planets and "Gustav Holst - Planets" and "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity" from the Planets suite is probably my favorite piece of music ever. I think Jupiter is big enough for the both of us.

What is there to organize?
downloads <- downloads folder
games <- games folder
roms <- games/emulation folder
quake mods <- games/quake
doom mods <- games/doom
And so forth
>>
>>732560321
But you can't organize the shit like that with steam games for example. Steam games go to the games folder and the mods folders go into game/mods folder? Or a steamgame/game/mods folder?
>>
>>732555775
Don't have any games you aren't currently playing installed, simple
>>
>>732557026
>>732557784
Some people like to own their games, not rent them like a serf
>>
>>732561001
It's pretty grim how nowadays even if you buy a "physical copy" you are forced into interacting with some sort of online storefront. The only way you can truly own a game nowadays is to pirate it, ironically.
>>
>>732560401
I don't even bother trying to organize steam stuff but mods do go on games/mods
>>
>>732562003
tbdesu I find it appalling how strict Steam is with the folder structure. You can have Steam and the games folders on however many separate partitions or drives you want but the steamapps/common/game/ is way too many folders deep if you want to mod the games. Practically mandatory to have a separate game mods folder structure higher than any steam folder structure to keep any kind of order with the games and their mods.

How is that wrong? You can have other smaller buckets in that bucket but the explanation is correct
Dont pretend you dont have New Folder with a bunch of random shit

you just start doing shit and then you iterate on it then you reflect and iterate again until you end up with a funcitoning system.
>>
>>732562238
You can make symbolic links if you wanna keep mods all in one place
>>
>>732565552
Please elaborate, I don't know what 'symbolic' means in this context
>>
>>732557248
I have a games folder for installed/unpacked games + steam/gog.
I have a general downloads folder with another games/ subdir where I download unpacked games and roms, romhacks, translations, mods etc.
Roms are also placed on my NAS so I can access them from any device (pc, deck, mister, ps2, wii u, xbox etc)

I organize by genre and sequel release.
All stealth games together, jrpg, open world games, shooters, character action, racers, fighting games.
