i need some advice from you guys, im 42 here. I've been playing video games all my life, in many different genres, from Civilization to Warcraft to Wolfenstein 3D to Halo to Half Life to Fallout to Fornite to Red Dead Redemption to The Witcher to Cyberpunk 2077 and many in between. My wife knew this shortly after we met and of course when we got married. She had always said that she doesn't "get them" or understand why anyone would want to play them but she understood that it was something I found relaxing and enjoyable.

Fast forward to this week and she flat out tells me (while we were arguing about something else) that she thinks video games are juvenile, she can't believe that a 42 year old man plays them, and that playing them makes me less attractive to her. For reference, I'm a manager at work, we have a nice house, four kids and 2 dogs. So it's not like I'm just bumming around. And I take care of my hygiene and appearance - basically I don't fall into any of the negative gamer stereotypes. I also play when everyone else is asleep so it's not cutting into family or housework time. It does mean that I tend to sleep in on weekend mornings though, which she doesn't like, as she's more of a morning person.

what do? Is there any hope of her changing how she feels? She knows that some of them are very much not for kids and that it's a bigger industry than movies, but it doesn't change how she feels. Should I give up gaming? That would feel like a huge sacrifice but would probably have big benefits. Or do we just live with this?

I've been playing Skate Story, I'd recommend it.
Great soundtrack, amazing natural progression in terms of your skills and what the game directly introduces to you. It's got a nonsensical story that punctuates things nicely, you're led from high-speed, corridor and boss sequences, to these kind of plazas or hubs that open up and you can skate at your leisure. The music is amazing, ramps up the intensity when it needs to so well, along with the visual effects that make you feel like a fucking pro skater when you slam down a combo or do a perfect trick off a difficult grind.
I like it a lot. And I don't have a long history with skating games, maybe Tony Hawk on the DS...
I wasn't playing any games this year, but now I've found myself without girlfriend.

I am going through the world of ruin in ff6. Then i hop over to link to the past. these were two of my favorites growing up and they still stand the test of time. Ff6 is in my top 5 favorite JRPGs. it is neither too much nor too little. Kefka turning on the emperor and nuking the world with magic is still one of my favorite villiain arc plot twists and terra as a foster mom for teenage refugees in the WoR with the two 16 year olds becoming a mommy & daddy is so pure.

Finished my Dark Souls 1 replay yesterday. I had played it like 13 years ago, it sure holds up, truly a masterpiece.

Now, I'm coming back to Hollow Knight: Silksong, love that game, the difficulty grew on me, really forces you to up your game. Just got to the Choral Chambers.

Lately, I've been getting more and more annoyed at padding in games. Like, big sections with nothing but talking that are unskippable (Last of Us 2) or minigames that are only there to waste time (every Mass Effect game had one of those). I usually play a first playthrough without mods and then try the game again with mods, but somedays I just don't bother at all. I modded Mass Effect 2 to skip every single door-opening minigame and it became a much better game because of that.

Wow classic is one of those games that I got bored with by 2021 but also classic + is kind of interesting and I want to see th e direction it goes in. I have put off TBC classic as much as TBC was my favorite expansion. but I might sub just to give me something else to do.

Im 30, I autistically replay the same games again and again because they're like comfort food to me. I simply don't have much time to play video games so picking up new games seems like taking a risk to me. In the past year alone, I've replayed RE4 seven times, FF12 five times, D:OS2 thrice, Elden ring four times etc. I do challenge runs to keep them fun and interesting, although vanilla playthroughs are fun and comfy as well. I'm not complaining, I genuinely enjoy my time with these games. The way I reason is, we enjoy the same fucking food every day and the same feeling of orgasming and the same alcoholic drinks and the same walks through the same woods. So what's the big deal about repeating the enjoyment you get from great video games? I'm dopamine-maxxing on games and having fun. I occasionally do play new games, but I make sure they're really good. My next new game will be RE9.

Beat Northern Journey. 8/10 some incredible highs and a really cool setting, but the ending was a long boring swimming section and the final boss was a slog even if it had cool ideas. Still highly recommend it, though I preferred The Axis Unseen.
Been playing Outriders with a buddy just to have something to do co-op. It's dogshit with the worst of Destiny, Borderlands, and Diablo 3 but number go up.
Got Teslagrad 1 and 2 for $4 the other day, both of them have a lot of neat puzzles but are also endlessly mired in 2010s indie physics puzzles that are inconsistent and frustrating, and the boss fights are even worse.

Need to decide what I'm playing next, the shortlist is Angeline Era or Peaks of Yore but I've got two dozen games in my "next" pile.

If you beat true ending Eigong there's nothing in Silksong that'll be insurmountable. The only thing that might fuck you is there's several bosses that actively punish you for playing defensively and letting them set the pace, so if you're too passive it's easy to get cornered.

Been playing some Bust-A-Move(Puzzle Bobble) and it still scratches an itch decades later. Been playing the PSP version Bust-A-Move Deluxe with Retroachievements and while it's not the best version of the game it has some interesting ideas and a ton of content.

I went to a Magic tournament yesterday and got absolutely destroyed. I knew I wouldn't get far because I'm not into the meta nor is my deck meta, but was hoping to do a tiny bit better than I did. Just terrible RNG and bad match ups all around. I didn't have fun and will probably just stick to prereleases or drafts.

4. The need for active participation not only is good for your brain, contrary to the binge-watching of Netflix or Doomscrolling those bitchy womyn tend to practice.
Which is why they also get FILTERED by gaming.

5. The amount of tangential learning gaming provides has been reported over and over again by many researchers throughout the past half a century. Linguistic skills, hand-eye coordination, team-work, micromanagement skills... list goes on. There's a reason why simulators are popular teaching tools these days, for many IRL fields.

Code vein 2: 6/10. Its not a GOOD game but it's got enough good stuff going on and enough build options to be enjoyable.
Nioh 3: 8/10. Not very far with it just coming out but it's been fun. Basically just 2 with more stuff and some changes for the new systems. Might go up or down depending on how the game changes as I get further in. Only actual complaint so far is its been pretty easy compared to othe games. I've died more against 1 enemy in code vein 2 than I have in all of my nioh play time.

Also plan on playing menace when im not feeling action games. It'll probably kick my ass.

Been trying to finish SOMA for the first time. I liked Frictional before this one (and especially the piece of shit that was The Bunker) but I find it really boring to play and unless the ending makes me cum in my pants I already feel like I can either guess the twists or have already seen all the themes have to offer.

Been mostly playing the Super Bomberman Collection on the Switch 2. 2 in particular was the one I have on SNES, and playing it for the first time in 20+ years was pretty crazy; hearing that battle theme reminded me of hooking up the Multitap at friends' houses and playing it 4 players all weekend. Really praying the Goemon collection comes here, and that hopefully we get a Bomberman 64 collection.

Silksong really lets you down since there's a big lack of interesting/useful charms in act1 and most of act 2, so besides spamming certain consumables like mines or caltrops. And winning by spamming those feels far worse than using good charm synergies in HK and making a solid build.

Still debating whether it's my favorite in the series but it's definitely the best game since We Love Katamari. It's the first Katamari game that really feels like a proper third game rather than just remixes of 1 and 2.

The gambit system is polarizing of course. You can fine tune it and set up a good system, then turn your brain off and just run around killing everything. I spotted Silent Hope in some thread not long ago and decided to give it a try. For some reason it reminded me a little of Spiral Knight, but it's not something I could grind for hours on end anymore. Honestly, just hanging there, I feel like 2026 is going to be an even shittier year, but all things considered I'm doing pretty ok. I finished Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated this Thursday and what a fun game it was, I was honestly surprised at how solid of a collectathon platformer it was and how, for once, a game shilled by /v/ was actually very fun. 8.5/10.

More fun than I was expecting, sort of an imsim lite, with prey meets farcry vibes
The combat is pretty aggressively mid and the antialiasing is just dogshit but a solid game that drops you in and doesn't hold your hand, 7/10
If they had a bigger budget or if it were developed by the old Arkane devs it could've been a 9/10

Here are the last 10 games I played.
Most of the time was spent playing X4 though. I've gotten to the end of the Boron storyline and quite enjoyed it, although I wish it was longer. I'm thinking of restarting and picking a race more appropriate for role playing at creating a huge empire. The RPer in me can't see a Boron taking on the task of building an empire from scratch. In-between bouts of X4 I've mostly been playing San Andreas and Destroy All Humans.

I feel really pathetic that I play this roblox game for hours a day. It has so little content and production value, and the playerbase is down, but I know nothing else that keeps my attention. Does anyone know any proper game like it?

Like an asymmetrical survival multiplayer game where you switch to the killer side when you die, rather than just sit out. But it's thrilling to survive against 10+ real players all teaming up to kill you if you're the last one.
