That type of talent to guide a boxer is just important as the boxer itself, that relationship is like a father son relationship. It sounds corny but that's how it works, being a boxer is tough. The trainer can't do the work but they can bring out the latent potential and help them make adjustments in the middle of a fight. Some fights are decided by GOOD corner advice, then the fighter makes the adjustment. Some fights are lost because their corner can't provide them any advice or the fighter refuses to listen to their trainer. With Mick, it's a tough love thing. He was going to kick Rocky out for being a piece of shit gangster breaking peoples fingers for the mob. He's running a gym and trying to create a world champion, it's a shit or get off the pot thing. Rocky betrayed him first by losing sight of what was important, he was in the wrong and just being an overall downer. Mick set him on the right path and guided him to victory. Rocky made it happen, but Mick was instrumental. He owned the gym after all and they had a history together
