That's not a very hard mode at all since the correct answer is Mannconomy.

Mannconomy was the beginning, but the workshop was the actual point of no return, because that's when Valve stopped giving a fuck and just filled updates with user-made slop

Also all you faggots pretending not to be free to play fags who started playing a year after mannconomy and cross game trading are gay and also retarded.
Buying hundreds of dollars of Steam Games with TF2 hats was the shit.

I enjoy TF2 and continue to play it. I enjoy matchmaking and casual.

The game died with jungle inferno. It just hammered the final nail in mym's coffin, making some weapons useless to this day. RIP bison.
On a tangential note, TF2Classified is fun.

>All of them were scrapped in favor of porting CS:GO's weapon skin system AND item grades to further monetize the game.

Quickplay and the moving away from focus on dedicated community servers. Valve servers were a double edged sword.

This, they should never have fucked around with the server browser, balance patches and whatever are inconsequential in comparison to making it difficult to even play the game you actually want to play

Mannconomy was the start and also the point of no return. From that moment, free to play was a certainty. The playerbase would change forever. It would be less casual and more competitive. Microtransactions would define the game's identity and influence the rest of the industry. Once they made that step in 2010, the rest became inevitable.

If you valued the "economy" then you valued a game that was already ruined. You should perhaps consider suicide because the world is better without you and your shit taste.
>>
actually the no return point was f2p, which was influenced by Mannconomy but this is when player quality dropped irreversibly and the tight knit communities in dedicated servers got polluted by children and other undesirables like hackers taking up slots, ruining the original experience.

Quick Play

Cheaters were spotted and terminated on custom servers by owners/admins. Matchmaking let them fester

Depends what is meant by point of no return.

Item drops were the first big red flag that Mannconomy was coming. Valve were already planning on making a big economy with the game and item drops were the first step to that.

Really even having items be unlocked with achievements was a mistake. Valve should have had all weapons available to all players as a standard.
>>
>>732758859
I get why people keep saying that, but at least it didn't irreparably fuck over the most basic way to play the game.
>>
mannconomy
>>
>>732758714
mann vs machine is when I personally checked out for my own reasons, but I'm pretty sure it's because they did some weird stealth change to the server browser that made it worse and I stopped caring.
>>
>>732759428
Community made maps are superior to valve made ones.
>>
How can their be a point of no return when the game is in a better state than it was a few years ago?
>>
>>732771937
By still being worse than it was before the point of no return.
>>

>>

Don't get us wrong the game is definitely better than 95% of modern slop but it's well past its golden age but not just due to its age but due to how jewed and bloated it has become in recent years. It was a mix of the time and the state of the game that made 2007 - 2011 -3ish the best period to play it in general. Everything afterwards is decay, also, it's likely still more than half the "players" are really just idle bots exploiting the economy.
>>
>>732762956
erm you can't say that quickplay was basedpilled and we totally never viewed people using it instead of the browser as retarded toddlers, no sir!

You just want to complain.

Nothing you list there is really a valid problem.

>bloat

Either game keeps getting updates, or it doesn't. People are complaining about both.

>Jewed

It is the least jewed fucking game. It isn't like so many others that demand you pay for a battle pass ever 3 months. You can play for free, forever. You can even trade for items if you want them.

> more than half the "players" are really just idle bots exploiting the economy.

How does ruin your gameplay?
>>
>>732774193
>why bloated
Ruins visual clarity and made the game stuttery until recently with 64 bit, also the base graphics and animations got downgraded to compensate. I put balance into this category which completely neutered the game.
>jewed
Valve has no further incentive to work on this game since the community makes them millions on their own, most new items also expect you to spend money to obtain them and are FOMO bound.
>bots
Ignoring the ones that just cheat and ruin games with sniper, what this really means is that there are barely any of the og players actually playing and instead lobbies are filled with ephemeral f2p players that don't talk, the sense of community that defined the early game is gone forever.
>>

>Ignoring the ones that just cheat and ruin games with sniper

Right, the fact those have been largely cleaned up is why the game is in a better state than it has been.

Bots that just farm items are... an interesting facet of the game economy more than anything else.

> lobbies are filled with ephemeral f2p players that don't talk, the sense of community that defined the early game is gone forever.

I wouldn't agree with this. Playing in casual there are quite a number of regulars I bump into, in addition to the plethora of new players that are trying the game for the first and only time.

I bump into youtubers from time to time. The game has managed to keep a sense of community better than most. I have people add me to friends from trading and from casual lobbies. This one really may be a skill issue.
