So..
Which is better?
>>
Fusion is more fun to 100% but Zero Mission is more fun to any%. I hate Zero Mission’s 100%, it’s poorly handled as you gotta go all the way back into the main world after getting your sealed upgrades and it’s mostly all power bomb expansions which are completely useless in Zero Mission outside of unlocking more power bombs.
>>
>>732780617
Fusion is much more linear but i love its little cutscenes to death

Zero Mission feels better to play, but Fusion is more interesting overall.

>you gotta go all the way back into the main world after getting your sealed upgrades and it’s mostly all power bomb expansions which are completely useless in Zero Mission outside of unlocking more power bombs.
Yep.
Shame, because the any% run where you immediately escape the planet after getting the super suit is pure fun.
Also absolutely worth playing at least twice, doing both Kraid and Ridley first.

Fusion
>>732780953
Eh, I think her butt's looked better in other games.

The real question is - Metroid (NES+CRT) or Zero Mission (GBA SP)?
>>
>>732782292
Both
>>
>>732780953
>Gameplay
Is around the same, and I would argue that Fusion does more with it
>Music
Yep
>Level design
Around the same, both games do a great job at what they're are meant to do
>ZSS
Yep

I think Fusion is better but the cutscenes/dialogue, while good, kinda makes the game annoying to replay. Meanwhile ZM is pretty easy to pick up and replay in whatever difficulty you want, achieving whatever shit you want to do with your run

How am I supposed to know? I don't have a NES+CRT nor a GBA SP.
>>
>>732782292
Metroid Planets and Zero Mission.
I already beat NEStroid two decades ago and by itself a replay doesn't offer anything of value
>B-but I love getting lost
Play Wizardry instead, that's the legit enjoy and fear getting lost: the game
>>
Fusion has the better boss fights and atmosphere, ZM wins on everything else. But you’re a coward if you never played planets or Mother because zero mission watered down everything that made the original good
>>
>>732782292
The Famicom Disc System version of the original Metroid is the best. The game runs smoother so the boss fights are making the system struggle.
>>
>>732780617
Zero Mission is 100 times better than fusion.
>>
>>732782292
NES is a good game but ZM is better in every way despite what that one anon says in these threads
>>
>>732786894
>chozo statues telling you where to go
>mother brain has an optic blast for some reason
>impossible to get lost and take in your surroundings because statues and the auto map
“No”
>>
>>732780617
Fusion
+enemies actually pose a challenge
+better boss design
+better balance
+better atmosphere
-enemies coming back to life right as you grab the stupid X is frustrating
-very linear/railroaded
-frequent interruptions from the computer

Zero Mission
+better level design
+more open-ended and true metroid design
+stealth section is a fun extra at the end
-basic enemies pose absolutely zero challenge
-missing a jump or taking a wrong turn can mean taking a 5+ minute giant loop all the way around due to the convoluted level structure
-Mother Brain is an obscene difficulty spike 10x harder than everything else in the game and an unfun bossfight overall

Overall, I'd give the slight edge to Fusion, but I think Super is a pretty big step up from both, even if it suffers from the same issue of regular enemies/hazards posing zero challenge or reason to engage with them
>>
>>732782292
That fuckass tower of blocks in NES Kraid's Lair makes Zero Mission win by default.
>>
>>732780617
Both are better than dread so it doesn't matter
>>
>>732787209
Ah I knew you would pop up in here sooner or later
>>
>>732787367
Super is genuinely perfect. The only improvements I would give it in a remake are
>Give it the modern control style of pressing R to use missiles and L for aiming
>Better map to know where items are
>>
>>732787584
45 degree snap aiming makes the game too easy because it allows you to make precision shots while moving or being stationary.
>>
>>732787367
>Mother Brain is an obscene difficulty spike 10x harder than everything else in the game and an unfun bossfight overall
I never liked fighting Mother Brain in any of the games. They're usually the most difficult fight in their games, but in a really cheap way.
>>732787584
>>Give it the modern control style of pressing R to use missiles and L for aiming
Would there be a way to have a combination of the two?
>>
>>732787689
Never heard anyone say it makes the game too easy, it was a welcome and necessary addition because you would constantly hurt yourself in the earlier games not being able to aim at certain enemies.

>>732787752
Sure, in a remake you could just keep the original control scheme and then an updated one
>>
>>732787584
>maridia
>draygons fight is either cheese or do the worst hit n run fight in existence
>have to hit select to scroll through subweapons
>whack a mole dragon fight
>wait for this machine to dig through the wall for you, it has no reason to be here in the first place lol
>phantoon
Definitely not
>>
>>732780617
I think ZM is a better Metroid game, but I still personally prefer Fusion. Zero Mission is great, but I don't replay it all that often, because most of the time I just think, "I don't really like the movement in this game, so I should just replay Super or Dread instead". I just really appreciate the survival-horror atmosphere in Fusion, and that hasn't been outdone yet, so I find myself going back to it more often.

You literally just stand in the corner and morphball when it swoops in

>wait for this machine to dig through
A staple in all the games
>phantoon
Is a great boss
Sorry that you were filtered
>>

Zero mission was good but forgettable. Fusion is a masterpiece and arguably the best game on the gba.
>>

And get caught with the webs?
>A staple in all the games
??????? What the fuck are you talking about?

Must be why even pro speedrunners hate him, right?

Anon you shoot the webs I won't even read the rest of your post is you're being this factious
>DURRR THIS PROJECTILE IS COMING AT ME WHAT ON EARTH SHALL I DO? THIS IS ONLY 85% OF THE WAY THROUGH THE GAME I JUST DON'T KNOW
>>
>>732788312
plus the fact that it was a first try for them to add narrative and a written plot where we got to learn about Samus' thoughts was a bold move at the time and it worked really well.
