There are people who will look at you with a straight face and tell you we need to go back to games looking like this
>>
Yes, much like you look at me with a gay face and tell me we don't.

and it's bad because...

games don't have to look exactly like that but they should aspire to the same amount of SOVL
>>

Me. I am that person.

it's ok i guess, but it's no bald gruff man in a brown and bloom middle eastern desert warzone

Yeah and it’s you obviously. Otherwise you wouldn’t have made this thread.

That game is one thing but we definitely need to go back to that style of OS UI

Give me more games spread across multiple windows.
>>

I always loved the windows 2000s and 98 look and feel. And looking back in hindsight I actually prefer it over the XP aesthetics, despite using the latter more.
>>
>>732784524
That's a VN though, not a game.

fuck yeah Vantage Master
>>

Sorry chud but thats too inaccessible for console ports so you will never get a game with multiple windows again. Every menu will be a massive one that takes over the whole screen one at a time and you will like it.

Back when game devs gave a fuck.

But that doesn't look bad at all, in fact it looks pretty good.

Any guides to making this kind of art? Did they scan drawings and painfully trace it in MSPaint or is there a faster way?

Anytime I want to talk about this style or nostalgia about the few games that crossed the ocean I get annoyed because it's often Gen Z or A kids doing their "I'm not like the other kids" thing and I can't relate.
Anyway, yeah, I really like the style. I think the Shining games on Sega systems remind me the most of it when it comes to games I played back then. I wish the many other stuff that was available was actually localized, but idiotic executives were convinced no American kids would pay a pretty or cute game.

Painfully drew it using a mouse. And then used dithering for the shading. It's a goddamn art form.
