Not sure if these'll be part of it, but their demos came out just yesterday. They were pretty promising. Both have a great artstyle. Helix starts off really simple but seems like the later puzzles seem promising.

For those of you who are too much of massive faggots to go into the jungle demo yourself and find good stuff, I have a list! I will not inform you in advance if it is a list of good demos or a list of bad ones that I made as a joke, though. Here it is:

lol this guy must sit by a calendar to know exactly the minute he has to start seething about the press preview. i can't even tell what brings me greater joy, playing the demos or trolling this retard.

I have a twelve hour shift at a job where I don't do anything and can play games all night. I'm going to, to, and there's nothing you can do.

Ivayami was an excellent SilentHill-like, they're bringing the fog back. It featured a cute cat and a ripoff of Willy Wonka-female.

They're also bringing back Parasite Eve with Parasite Mutant, that demo was fantastic.

The Big Hollow devs deleted my post because I was able to guess the ending of the game from just playing the demo, lmao. Pretty good mystery game, it goes for gruesome details you don't usually see in crime games.

SideEye High was fucking ugly but it sure had excellent gameplay.

Yeah. I hope it figures out what it wants to do with the combat. The boss "fight" was awesome and justifies the existence of the game with that alone but the combat's pretty bad. It's supposed to release this year though so I don't know if I can expect a massive improvement on that front.

Of all the problems Steam Nextfest somehow still has, this is the one that gets me every time. How have they been doing this shit for this many years and they still don't have a way to just automatically filter out the games from retard devs who didn't get their demos out in time? The press page is at least kind of understandable but everyone knows half of these games aren't going to get their demos up until midway through nextfest because that's how it always is.

Here's the first contribution I've enjoyed: KILL THE WITCH
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2878760/KILL_THE_WITCH/

Kinda looks like Momodora and Rabbit Hole (the newgrounds game)
Fun 2D platformer with basic combat. Nothing groundbreaking, but I like the artstyle and the "vibes" of the game, edgier than it appears. Also surprisingly punishing in lunatic difficulty. Some music tracks in the demo are placeholder classical compositions which is funny, but clashes with the game sort of.

press have no real influence, most of the gaming population is actively distrusting of them. the real big players are the ones who captivate streamers and their clipfarming viewers, which is what actually shapes where public attention goes. That's what gets eyes on a game these days. Only small pockets of the internet house autists who actually go through the weeds to find obscure shit, even steam's own self-reported best performing demos is largely just a list of all games that would be popular as streamerbait or "friendslop" content. There's no fucking way that an AI-generated femboy game was actually top recommended, it farmed engagement for being ridiculous, like back when people gifted each other Bad Rats as a joke.

Fun first-person parkour cityscape/megastructure runner. Right now it's just a couple of time trials and a sandbox map, but I think the dev intends for there to be a story eventually going by the description.

Don't actually know if this is part of the current Next Fest but saw it while digging anyways and it's a fun metroidvania. Gameplay's good, music's good, it's very pretty to look at, but the writing is a little eh and didn't grab me. MC is a diver woman stuck in a straight jacket which is hot so it makes up for it.

>game allows you to LARP as the yellow flash from nardo
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3910680/INARI/

I know this game will likely not be part of the steam next fest and you need to download the demo on their kickstarter page, but I believe the dedicated dumpster divers I mean game journalists of these threads would greatly enjoy the INARI demo.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1hpstudio/inari

If Katana Zero, Nine Sols and Kats Trigger are among games you've enjoyed recently you WILL have a great time with it like I did. Animated cutscenes, fluid pixel art, cute characters (Izuna the mc especially), fast-paced and responsive gameplay. Only weak aspect is the music I'd say and controller bindings (you can't re-assign the B button) but it's much better to play with a mouse to throw the kunais around anyway.

>>732855407
>Under The Island
Really great news. It was one of my favorite demos of the previous next fest(s), solid Zelda-like even if combat was on the easier side. Into The Inferno was much shorter when it comes to demos, but I enjoyed it slightly more.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3245830/_Into_The_Inferno__A_Knights_Journey/

Also is it just me but is the next fest this time around much more horror-focused ? Been browsing the page for like 10 minutes and I've been mostly seeing atmospheric or FPS horror games, usually it'd be roguelikes and low effort stuff. One can hope steam improved their anti-slpp algorithm kek

Ah indie devs never cease to disappoint me in not ever attempting this genre or think it's worth developing games for. Tell me this: if indie were really saving gaming then why won't they make anything here? is it so hard for them to create something that resembles Splinter Cell or Thief. Perhaps even Hitman? yeah fuck these assholes. They never want to make anything that i want to play.

You're talking about one game in a sea of numerous other games that are shat out for convenience and safe bets in popularity sake. It is largely a dead genre in which indie have not lifted a finger to help with.

What's worse about those who have claimed to have made a stealth game in their descriptions I'd might add is not having any baseline reference to the design. Or thinking they can simply get away with using cone vision enough to have qualified. Let alone even the games that try to make the cone vision an actual challenge being rare. But what they absolutely will not ever do is variable sound. Nor will they ever use variable light meters either. You don't understand the genre you're claiming to have created. The shitty spy drops one shows an indicator but in reality it's not very complex either.

Stealth games are hard to make and even harder to sell. The fact that you can't name any of the upcoming projects despite actively looking for them proves how invisible they are how little discussion they attract. Indie devs may be dumb, but most can recognize blatantly unprofitable endeavors to avoid.

And one thing i forgot to mention is that today's indie devs are so unbelievably pathetic that literal east euro slavpoors could shit out better (whilst half baked) games in the mid 2000s these hacks ever could dream of. It's just shameful that their quality is below games that came out in 2005 that worked on shoe string budgets out of the poor side of europe.

Gaming is dead.

I thought this was basic decency. A steam store page link, if not at least a picture with the name of the game clearly visible, stated in the filename or in the post with a small description of what the gameplay or story is about should be the bare minimum. I think the "buy an ad shill" culture is making people not want to look like marketers when the very purpose of next fest threads or other exhibitions is to talk about games, especially the less known ones. Even devs shilling their own games is actually a great thing.

Gameplay videos are the best. Why isn't everyone posting webms

Don't bother wasting your energy on these faggots. They revel in being attention whores. The agdg schizo is annoying but if there's one thing he is right about, it's the retards who play hard to catch when posting screenshots and not providing source. I don't know what they get out of it. I understand why too much spoonfeeding can be detrimental for the health of any given community, but it's the steam next fest thread and the idea is to highlight the good stuff in the sea of trash. This is why I become a game journalist and partake in the joys of dumpster diving to share the good games (in my opinion) that I happen to find. But I don't have unlimited time nor do I have a dozen monitors to watch and play every single demo. There are some titles I will scroll past that because it's not in my targeted genres for instance, but someone else might notice them and point why they're a actual hidden gems that could seduce people like me who skipped at first glance

Its not very good, admittedly I didn't make it past the first mining day, the mining just wasn't very satisfying and the movement during the shop section was annoyingly slow.

nta but you posting a screenshot or even a single sentence describing the game is far easier than me having to open every single fucking link in every post just to find out if i even care about the genre, believe it or not you aren't the only faggot posting games
If you want people to check out the demo you liked don't it properly, if you don't, just don't post your shitty mysterious link

>Now I found the early thread and can play demos over a week before it starts.
I was upset at the early birds before, but now that I'm on this side I'm conflicted. It's quite the moral dilemma anons.

From what I remember, the press page isn't one-to-one with the actual fest though. Some demos get pulled and others wait to release until the day of

Wow the controls are really bad. And somehow I thought this would be turn-based tactics but it's actually a Resident Evil lookalike.

Excuse me why haven't I been spoonfed links to redheaded bondage porn games beamed telepathically into my head so I don't have to click links. You guys are ruining next fest, and the world as a whole. My breakfast was also ruined.

There's no real reason to actually hide it. They just officially don't want the general public to talk about an early version of the fest that doesn't have everything yet. Otherwise, it's harmless.
>>
>>732957087
Well most people get too confused about the concept of links so it's a pretty effective deterrent actually. Just post all of next fest here directly instead of using a byzantine link system from the middle ages.

Looks cool and I like the idea and a lot of the gameplay but
God that camera is awful, always flipping perspective and disorientating plus having to stop moving to make controls match camera directions again
Plus they hide enemies off camera that your character can see but you can't so you unavoidably lose health when they shoot you and also have to blast offscreen not seeing what your character is aiming at
Controls are clunk too, I guess it's a slowish game so not a huge issue, but with the camera shit it makes moving a chore

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2349940/Sligga_Trigger/

You pay money to list a game on Steam. But you still have to submit a build for Steam to review so they're sure your game is real, more or less does what's advertised, isn't doing anything illegal, etc.

Everything you've linked prior is half baked crap. I knew what all of it was you talked about or just showed some unnamed screenshot of, literally all in a notepad for me in 'bad games that will go nowhere' except for maybe Deserter having a chance. Yet still not being incredibly complex either. Indie devevelopers are all untalented and this is a fact you need to accept.

these days anyone can download a free game engine and faceroll gamdev after watching a couple of youtubers talk about visual coding basics.
Back then you had to study linear algebra and make your own engine, if you were that invested you better believe you tried to make it work.
What's really impressive are actually quality productions like Doom, Unreal, Halo and Half-Life, also made by a handful of dudes without publishers. Halo was almost done before Bill opened his wallet.
>>
>>732963417
Dolls Town dev didn't do that? That would be silly
>>
>>732966605
He did, but Steam isn't approving it or saying if there's anything wrong, so there's nothing to do but wait. That's all we know, unless the dev also gets mad and starts ranting about crazy shit.
>>
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4113380/Ship_v_Maze/

Ship v Maze is not interesting nor groundbreaking but I found this demo to be somewhat addictive in short bursts. I'm weak to provocation, somewhat hard to control and simple "beat your high-score!" mobile tier game design it seems.

I'll talking about games, dropping names. It's up to you to check them out or not. If you're too lazy to search for a game when you get a name your opinion is worthless anyway, but I agree that just posing images and not writing any name or anything is pretty gay
>>
>>732952428
This, most journos already had the chance to play these games at cons or at preview events. That's how they have demo lists so soon after the event starts, but that means that the majority of journos only played the stuff that was put in front of them, which is the tiny minority of the demos. /v/ plays way more stuff at these events because /v/anons go dumpster diving instead of sticking to the dev/corporate circlejerk

It's kinda crazy to me how the guys who play hundreds of demos and make lists and collages have the absolute worst taste. They play so many games yet don't develop any sense of quality or style. How does this happen?
>>
>>732966361
Some of the are just zoomers who love Dishonored's Creed era of stealth and don't think being quiet and manipulating light is apart of the gameplay. Indie dev scene is filled with new casuals too. But above all i would just say they're trend chasing money whores as to why they won't make anything that i want to play. They'll claim they're going against the current of triple A but that's not entirely true. What you said about them being talentless youtube tutorial watchers is undoubtedly true and being forced to make your own engine usually meant you tried to create the proper systems for game mechanics.
