i went abysslock and i am liking it. dude is ridiculously OP to the point where i casually finished act 5 normal wearing mostly early act 1 blues. duriel, trav, ancients, throne/baal, nothing stood a chance. i expect it to continue into NM and hell as abyss is magic damage and will only get stronger
cool that blizz are doing stuff to d2 (the best diablo), but the warlock was completely off the mark. he's wildly busted and if you aren't playing a lock on the new ladder you're shooting yourself in the foot. as you'd be shooting yourself in the foot if you don't play sorc or hammerdin on every ladder launch. they should also have addressed the latter instead of just adding in "power creep: the class". i'm hoping they will at some point as the precedent has been set for wild balance changes the moment mosaic was introduced. didn't buy this latest offering and i'm glad i didn't, happy to wait until they fix the game because it's very broken currently

There are a lot of workarounds to make melee feel and play better that a noob would never know or guess, like cheap ways to stack AR, the important of crushing blow, etc.

Ideally, you need to be able to deliver around 3k consistently each second, have more than 800hp, be able to cast without chugging potions every 5 seconds, have your main damage skill buffed to lvl22, have at least 500def and at least 40% res in each element. These are more rough minimums than gospel, in reality, you really only need to get your resistances up.If you can't do any of these things, you need to grind nightmare mode for items. Raise your magic find as high as you can without being made from tissue paper and just murder the countess, mephisto and maybe do some cow runs. The monster immunity issue is something you either have to have a second element to bring out in emergencies, break with conviction with your Merc having infinity (impractical) or you just run from. It is viable to run from mobs that you can't damage, thankfully no boss is ever immune to any element, so you can beat the game no matter your build. Once you've finished hell mode you can try to get a sunder charm, but they're harder to find now than they were.If you are playing online, you can scavenge cow level runs in pubs, but since you probably can't kill hell cows, you'll be stuck picking up left overs, but thankfully in hell mode runs, the left overs are anything really to stick your nose up to, what's basically useless to someone that has finished hell is pretty useful to people starting hell mode. This is sort of cheating, you might as well scour pubs for people giving away free items at at that point, but it isn't quite as egregious as that.

That's like a really huge edge case though and I found that on a forum, I have never ran into this set of circumstances he's talking about.Outside that edge case, the max you're going to run into is base 1200 in a single hit, so that's a 720 damage punch, so it tracks to recommend 40% all res. At 30% res, you'd take 840hp which would one shot you in a fairly common occurrence in hell mode.
