First you focus on producing green runeys, since they are at the bottom of the food chain. Just grow and keep some 3x3 patches of grass untouched in your farm and it should be enough for your farm.Then in one or two regions keep only blue and green runeys. The green ones are generated from blue ones, and the blue won't eat the green ones. This is your additional supply of green ones (also because during winter the grass dies). You just have to remember to dump the excess of blue ones once in a while in those regions.The tedious part comes from vacuing those little bastards with the very slow vacuuming animation and keeping their numbers distributed around 45/45/45/45 for most regions. Emulator speed up helps a lot here.

Every character has a unique thing to say when you greet them every day and all of the daily requests are basically mini events for every character. You'll probably finish it by early year 1 winter without even trying to speed run it but it's great up until that point.

You could learn bit by bit how to draw patches of grass, ground, leaves and gradually build a set of assets that you could use in your game.But that's just the graphics part, there's also character design, animation and all the programming required for these types of games. Very difficult to do it by yourself. Stardew Valley is very barebones in comparison.

Then Summer -> Autumn feels cooler, the music changes and the world takes on a deeper hue, and of course Autumn -> Winter is extremely noticeable, to the point that the whole world feels refreshed when you come back to Spring again. And making crops seasonal locked means you've actually got variety for each season, instead of just shrugging and growing whatever, whenever.
