It's incredibly unfair that the trailer was so fucking kino.
The game had no chance to live up.
>>
The thing they never explain is, how exactly did Megan first get the idea that her boyfriend has special aug-absorbing DNA? Sure Sarif confirmed it by hiring the PI to go snoop around Jensen's past and found out he was a test-tube baby from an Illuminati laboratory but he only did it on Megan's recommendation. At some stage she must have had Jensen's DNA in a lab, properly extracted and sequenced so she could see it had been tampered with. You don't just get the idea "I bet my boyfriend's cells don't produce glial tissue buildup on PEDOT clusters" on a whim.

What the absolute fuck was she doing? Sampling random people to test their cells? "Hey honey give me a cheek swab it's for work"?
>>
>>733508197
>Sampling random people to test their cells? "Hey honey give me a cheek swab it's for work"?
thats not so unbelievable
>>

>>
>>733508262
For a cutting edge biotech firm I'd really expect something a little more rigorous and professional than literally asking the people in your day to day life for samples.
>>
>>733508197
I always assumed Sarif told her he's a secret science experiment and she decided to try to find out what they did.
>>
>>733508378
Sarif only found out after Megan told him, the investigation was to make sure it was true before hiring Jensen as the Security Chief so he could be conveniently close at hand for further study. It goes roughly like this:

Megan and Jensen date > Megan finds out Jensen is genetically engineered > Megan and Jensen break up > Jensen gets fired from SWAT for Mexicantown > Megan tells Sarif to hire him because he might be special > Sarif hires the guy to check it out > Sarif offers Jensen a job when the results come back that he's a White Helix baby
>>
>>733508503
>Sarif only found out after Megan told him
No. He was doing a background check on the person he was about to hire to be head of security. That's a completely normal thing to do. They just happened to find something big.

>don't hire corporate security like any other company
>hire this recently disgraced SWAT captain instead
>entirely on the recommendation of a woman he used to fuck a few years back who says he's a hard worker or something
Absolutely not. There's also the fact that regular corporate background checks dont involve private investigators investigating where you were born, or top level backdoors into your own firewall for absolute secrecy from anybody but the CEO. Sarif knew something was up from the start.

Well, according to the patient x file, Megan just happened to notice he was unusually healthy and resilient and so apparently decided to check his DNA out. She straight up says "personal observation".
>>
>>733509075
Like how more Patient X "samples" mysteriously become available immediately after Adam gets most of his body cut off, that's just corporate language for unethical behaviour. Nothing sets Adam apart from anyone else besides cellular activity involving augmentations.
>>
>>733507882
>Tranny jensen
>>
AUGS LIVE MATTER!
>>
>>733509326
>Nothing sets Adam apart from anyone else besides cellular activity involving augmentations.

>X appears to be healthier and more resilient to infection than most subjects of a similar age and ethnic background. (Although admittedly, this is based on personal observation only. Access to X's medical files and history is not possible at this time.)
Jensen has more going on than just compatibility with augmentation.
>>
>>733507882
I asked for the smartest wife and I won
>>
>>733509541
The 'personal observation' bit confirms it was done while they were dating and the 'admittedly, I don't have his medical records' confirms his DNA was taken on pretty shaky grounds. This is a report you read right before she announces to the world her groundbreaking discovery of DNA that will destroy augmentation rejection, the foundation of the whole thing, and she can barely give a reason why this person's sample was taken in the first place.

I played DE during the coof for the first time. I'm old, but I just never got around to it because I was on console mostly when that game came out. I think it holds up extremely well with the other games from that time period.
I then replayed HR and then went on to MD for the first time, both of which I enjoyed.
I think it's sad MD just stops and I'll never know what happens next. I suppose that's preferable to the series being raped like so many others.

It's not a huge plot point, so it's pretty easy to assume that one day Megan just asked Adam for a DNA swab as a shortcut for something she was working on so that she didn't have to go out and get some kind of "official" sample or something. She just got her boyfriend to do it. Makes enough sense to me.

Adam is absolutely fucked with all his fancy augs if he ever ends up out of a job, and even then he's still completely reliant on the whims of a few megacorps making meds and spare parts just to keep living
This isn't some sort of subtle subtext either, it's pretty damn integral to the plot of both HR and MD

>>
>>733513550
Reasonable complaint against Deus Ex, I don't think anybody really enjoys having to dump a few thousand points to actually use a gun, it just forces you to use a melee weapon for a little bit. The only thing that feels particularly stupid in HR is the sprint timer.

>Sarif only found out after Megan told him
Did you miss the part where Sarif also had a connection to the Illuminati and therefore probably knew about all this shit before Megan ever did
>>
>>733516428
Of course it does. Something that was novel and original 20 years ago but got copied by every other game doesn't feel novel or original today. There you go, a mechanic that aged poorly.
>b-b-but if it was fun then it's fun now
The first time I saw a grappling hook mechanic I had more fun than the 20th time I saw it. Unless you're an autismo, you get bored playing with the same mechanic over and over again and it becomes less fun
>>
>>733515351
It’s even worse than “rot.” They’ll sit on it, do absolutely nothing for a decade, then randomly announce a low-budget AA “reimagining” made by some filler studio that’s never shipped an immersive sim before.

Embracer doesn’t buy studios to make games, they buy them to pad a spreadsheet and pray some Saudi money fairy bails them out again. Deus Ex was already niche, now it’s trapped in IP purgatory because some suit thought “portfolio diversification” meant hoarding brands like Funko Pops.

We’re not getting Jensen back. Best case scenario is someone licenses it in 2032 and we get a mid-tier cyberpunk Far Cry clone with takedowns and yellow filters as a “tribute.”

I never asked for this.
>>
>>733516571
No, you just have no arguments against it. If it was bad to begin with, it will continue to be bad over the decades.
There's a damn good reason why people still play tetris and super mario bros.
>>
>>733516979
>I never asked for this.
This world is so fucking gay.
>>
>>733516795
Sarif's 'connection' is repeatedly telling them he's never going to join them. Also the Illuminati themselves didn't know Adam was the sole survivor of White Helix with the magic aug genes until Megan was about to go on stage and tell the whole world he was. It's why they took so long to bump off the PI and confiscate his files.
>>
>>733516804
If it was copied by various other products, that implies it was successful and everyone enjoyed it. The fact that you got burnt out of experiencing it over and over has nothing to do with how long ago it was released. All the games featuring this mechanic could have all come out on the same day and you could play have played them all on this day and still have the same result.

I beated HR for the first time three days ago after 15 years in the backlog

I'm getting into MD now and I don't think I like it as much. It does the same stuff, unnecessarily flashy? Like the hacking minigame is the same mechanically yet they somehow made it look and control worse for no reason to make it more "detailed"

Replacing the five distinct battery icons with a flat energy bar was a downgrade too, and only being able to regenerate 40% of your energy sucked, so they... lowered it to 20%?

They stopped her before she could tell everyone there's a way for all people have augments, without Neuropozyne to boot, and then put her on a project intended to give the Illuminati a global killswitch on augments so if any hanzers get uppity and try to overthrow the government they can just have their arms turned off. That's explicitly what Taggart wants from it and Darrow probably mouthed a lot of that sentiment to her.

It's the fact she almost immediately figures out what Darrow has done to make everyone go berserk that says she's smart enough to have seen that the killswitch was just a front to someone bankrolling the whole thing and just chose to ignore how badly it could be misused.
>>
>>733513754
I think we can sorta guess what would've happened in Adam's third game, given what's released in MD about him and Janus. He'd find out he's a clone, Page would probably fool Volkard Rand into helping in the rise of MJ12 and Page fucking over the OG Illuminati with Jensen as a sleeper agent, and he'd go down in flames trying to take the baddies out, maybe having a Pyrrhic victory of sorts that nevertheless leads to the OG game.
>>
>>733521895
Yeah, the whole point is that ultimately Adam needs to let go of his """savior complex""" and realize Megan's a workaholic that apologizes while she stabs you in the back. I wish HR had a working stash in Adam's apartment, like the safe behind his TV, where you could go back to time and again to drop extra ammo or modded weapons or whatever. It's a shame having to drop or sell extra items if you explore and do sidequests because there's nowhere for you to naturally store them besides randomly on the floor at the whim of the game's physics.
>>

yeah. I played OGDX, DXHR and DXHR before the CP2077 release to get my mind into the cyberpunk mindset and was pretty disappointed to see that DXHR was more cyberpunk than CP2077 and a much better game at that.
CP2077 had flashy graphics, sure but it never made me feel like an enhanced human like the DX games.
Let's hope they hire actual programmers/game designers to make CP2 not just a graphics demo and make an actual game this time. They can reuse most art assets so I hope they invest in some good programmers that love games/gameplay for the successor.
>>
>>733526204
HR felt even more cyberpunk with the old yellow filter.
>>
>>733526204
The problem is that 2077 is SO much bigger
In Deus Ex, you're often looking at a beautiful, elaborate, detailed rendition of... half a city block, and that's most of the game's content
>>
>>733526419
Yeah, I think CP2077 would have been a much better game by ditching the open world crap that made enemy AI too difficult for them and they ended up sprinkling the whole city with these three enemy groups that can't move much away from their spawn-point and stand there like retards when you snipe them one by one.
Smaller maps with better path finding so enemies can pull off flanking maneuvers would have been much more fun than what they ended up doing.
>>
A few years ago I did about 8-9 playthroughs of all possible ways I could come up with.
Lethal stealth, Lethal bombastic, full 100% ghost didn't interact with anything, just sniping, etc.
Is it me or the Combat Rifle and the Machine Pistol both are terrible. The special upgrade makes them even worse, with the idea that you can tag something and shoot from cover, but it makes the guns go through a 50 round clip in a second without much damage. With the small carry capacity it feels terrible.
Oh and the rocket launcher, not even comparing it to the gep gun it's just nearly half your inventory for no damage. You can acomplish the same throwing some explosive mines in half the time it takes to reload the thing.
Anyone played any good mods to change things, specially the guns?
>>
>>733526204
CP2077 feels way too much like marvelshit through the lens of some millenial obsessed with the 80s, it has no identity and there is nothing captivating nor interesting about it
>>
>>733526226
I really liked the atmosphere in DXHR that was a much more believable world than CP77 and I think the much darker tone helped a lot in selling the idea that was meant to make the world better and ended up in a nightmare. Having said that, the spy-thriller DLC in CP77 was kino, with much better actors than in the base game and I enjoyed it. Too bad the French hacker chick didn't get more screen time.

They did not need to be network enabled and made to constantly phone home for DRM, advertising, subscriptions
A tremendous amount of effort and money was put into making them shit, after they had already been invented

I hate that this is universal, and it coincides with, say, the invention of electric cars, let alone cybernetic limbs
That there is nothing wrong with the idea of a small sedan whose movement is powered by a lithium battery except for the fact that no company on earth will ever manufacture one that DOESN'T perpetually phone home, brick itself and try to extract rents from you
And that car companies of course didn't used to do that, but the moment they gained the capacity to do that, they started

Cyberscam played like a Far Cry game set in an empty city with barely anything to interact with other than warehouses filled with bad guys and random colored tier loot ala Borderlands. What a disappointment of a game.

I am fortunate that I played Cyberpunk years after release. With the many fashion and voice replacer mods that had released over that time, I could at least pretend I was playing a much cooler character than V actually was. During some calmer moments I almost felt like I was in DX

it was liked when it came out but deus ex superfans were always kinda down on it and it's one of those early 2010s games that people are like "why did everyone LOVE this, again?" in retrospect, like bioshock infinite or wolfenstein TNO

the early 2010s were a weird era where so many fun design trends had been smoothed away (and indie wasn't fully established yet) that literally any step back in that direction was praised

its kinda amazing how much larger cp feels compared to HR
you HAVE to be limited to just walking and pathetic sprint because it takes couple mins to go from 1 end of the map to another

the clothing option are kinda funny in dxhr with everyone using same look while cp has more variety in the intro bar area at the plaza

your opions to progress a mission is do the intended way of finding a vent tunnel that takes you to a room with the item or hallfway that leads you to another vent, or just kill everyone and get less xp because expert game design

The 2nd area with chinks was completely half assed with nothing to do. Talking to a retail agent complaining about her job was a highlight for that section.

Some were bothered by the stock animation in this game, but I actually liked how it made her look like a nervous mess from having a work colleague catch her in a compromising cover, and having to ask them for help.

they didnt even implement a system where youd have to go to a clinic to change augs that give you ability to destroy every civilian within a 20m range, it all happens in a menu

then again half of the augs were like "heres some level design thing that we implemented to justify the aug, and its not used anywhere else" and if you didnt care about looting every meaningless item from behind cracked walls you didnt really need them

It is weird tho that the game where your augmentations are self-replicating programmable nano machines have you physically install new augmentations and the one where your augmentations are distinct mechanical devices is the one where you unlock new functionality simply as you grow more accustomed to them
It's precisely backwards

>>
>>733534880
>>733534431
Jensen has all his augs in his body. They're literally just turned off at a software level to prevent overload. That's why "experience" and Praxis software allows him to just turn them on.

JC has to have new nanoaugs physically installed into his body after finding them in cannisters sitting around. Which makes sense because it's literally just a can of nanomachines in preservative medium, it just needs injecting in the right places and activated properly, which is why the doctor doesn't do it. He farms the work out to a medic droid.

>>733535447

Yes but that's the post-hoc rationalisation they gave

If you were to design this series from the ground up and say, there's one game where you have to install your augmentations in a medbay and one game where you just develop them by using them, you wouldn't do it like this
>>
>>733536098
>>733535992

>fall damage is actually pretty nasty
>there's an augmentation that disables it

>now every single time you fall, a short "badass" cutscene of you making a ball of yellow lightning plays instead
>>
>>733536661
It's so weird too because when you think cybernetic augmented guy that falls from great heights you imagine super springy legs, or some kind of retro thruster system. Not whatever the fuck that was.
Oh and it looks even worse in the 2nd game, because in the first it looks like Jensen is creating friction with the lightning against the walls, since most places where you can fall off are tunnels or have similar walls, but in MD one of the first things you see is Jensen just jumping out of a VTOL awkwardly extending his hands shooting lightning while falling.
>>
>>733518459
the real ending is the first game's lore and newspapers that fill in the blanks
>>
>>733536242
true, this is Jeff's website after all
>>
>>733538652
They did leave enough in the game to figure out what happened. That side material book makes it pretty obvious too. MD sets up a totally brutal gutpunch ending for Jensen that segues into the world of the original Deus Ex. Eidos Montreal probably had an idea with how things were that they might not get another chance.
