Wonderful 101. The game is a confusing mess at first (and they don't even give you dodge and block until you unlock them), but once your brain gets used to what's going on and learns to filter out the distracting elements the game becomes an incredibly fun action game.

thats not the problem with silksong, the problem with silksong is that the later content is simply not as good
Nobody would complain about act 3 being twice as big if it was equally as good as act 2. But if act 2 was like "100%" quality, act 3 is like "70%"
And that hurts even harder when you consider act 3 is where you get most of the fancy builds and options

Because most gamers are mindless gluttons with no appreciation for art of something with the right amount of potency. They would rather have 100 hours of fetch quests to get 'value'.

I love Hollow Knight, but the real interest to a lot of people who never cared for it prior was the huge fandom. They'll try to tell you that it's the lore that does all the heavy lifting, but it's really the cute and appealing character designs. They're easy to draw so it got a lot of word of mouth through fanart. They also lack detail, so that means it leaves a lot rooms for advanced artists to experiment with. The world's colorful enough for pic related to pop out like a sore thumb, you're always paying attention to him. Every vidya youtube comment section always has at least one fag using the Knight as a pfp. He's everywhere. The real indie great is Shovel Knight, though. Unfortunately his design is too hard for retards to draw so he never really took off in terms of fanart

Same. Hollow Knight is like digging dirt and suffering for no reason until you reach your first dream nail boss fight, for me it was soul tyrant, ideally with not many movement upgrades. It's only then that the game clicked with me and I understood why it was praised.
Silksong is still the better game. The minute you get the dash the movement alone makes it a more replayable, more enjoyable experience. I can't go back to play HK's beginning

7 Days to Die. Thought I'd hate it because of survival crafting but the crafting is comparatively minor and the game is just endless catnip for me. Still plenty of ways it could be even better but as-is I can sink a ton of time into it just exploring the world and locations. The power jump you feel when you get a new tier of weapon or vehicle is great, and to a lesser degree all the tools too with the notable exception of the auger which makes mining tolerable

>Riku wants to cover the world in darkness?!
>Now a guy with a fireball-spamming sword is trying to kill me?!
>Hey, it's Aerith, Yuffie, and Cid from the cultural phenomenon video game: Final Fantasy VII!
>Everyone here is from a fallen world.....
>Oh, look! It's Donald and Goofy! Even Merlin and Jiminy Cricket!
>Holy smokes, those shadow creatures have formed a suit of armour that I have to fight with basic sword skills!
>Maleficent and a cabal of Disney villains are trying to conquer the Disney and Final Fantasy universes?! You need me to pilot a spaceship and bring balance to the forces of Light and Darkness?! Jiminy wants me to find the notes of an ancient scientist responsible for this whole mess and uncover the truth?!

if it was hollow knight how aren't you living in a mansion on the moon right now?
>>
I don’t get the appeal of hollow knight. The level design is bad, especially by the standard set by Super Metroid. The combat is extremely shallow, there is only one attack so all you do is press the jump button at the right time then press the attack button. The story and aesthetic is a dumbed down cartoon version of Dark Souls 2 without any personality, wit, charm or pathos. Although repetitive, the boss fights are fun. If it was a boss rush I would have enjoyed it a lot more, but since I had to slog through the poorly designed metroidvania I would rate it a 4/10.

That is a pretty good one. The layer of dirt's still there every time I replay, too. Stuff like the jank fucking jumping physics. But then you just start abstracting that shit in your head and all the planning and pre-buffing and the knowledge that you're playing Morrowind and you can out-potion your way out of any combat so things are only as difficult as you want them to be and it's just a great storytelling engine to make some dumbass character idea and play it out and Morrowind (ESPECIALLY with TR) is sandboxy and freeform enough that you can have a very satisfying long running character just doing one guild questline and some random sidequesting tossed in.
Getting far too rambling but the point is yeah, Morrowind's loaded with diamonds everywhere and the dirt is just concussing yourself until the clacking puppet slap-fight on your monitor is a fantasy epic in your head

Grand Theft Auto IV
First impression, hated it
If you can get over the hump with the more realistic heavy car handling, it affords you pretty excellent control.
III era + V have cartoon arcade racer physics, which can be fun, but IV makes you actually engage your brain while you drive

Speaking of which, is there a unanimously agreed upon "improvement" mod for things like cut songs and bug fixes, and works with the current steam version?

I mean it's still a 10/10 puzzle game even if you already know about the invisible diamonds. The game is constantly challenging your understanding of its systems and producing rich "aha" moments, and it does so many many times. Super intrinsically rewarding game throughout. You oughtta give it a look sometime if you like puzzle games. but yeah having that spoiled is really unfortunate

>items and materials can be bought from shops or gathered from the world via chopping trees, mining ore, dropping from slain monsters, etc
>items and materials can also be refined through several crafting practices, e.g. carpentry, blacksmithing, alchemy, cooking, and tailoring
>everything has a health/progress bar, from the monsters you defeat, the ore nodes you mine, the trees you chop, the fish you catch, even the crafting
>the efficiency and performance of these tasks and the quality of their outcomes is calculated from the player's core six stats - STR for physical combat and mining/logging, INT for alchemy and magical combat, DEX for archery and tailoring, and so on
>stats are raised by leveling up using EXP gained from every single task performed
>high enough stats will net you more items from gathering or higher quality crafts, which either have higher stats, restore more health or sell for more
>each craft and practice has a tool associated with it: swords and shields for physical combat, saws for carpentry, pickaxes for mining, etc
it's a perfect game loop.
