This has the best gameplay of any RPG ever made.
Just among JRPGs I liked Wizardry 1-3, Bravely Default, Enchant Farm and Black Souls 2 more. And that's not to mention CRPGs.
>>733608339Doubt it's better than Dragon Quest 4 DS's gameplay, which has the best combat in all of jRPGs after E33
>>733608339It's a very good game. It's too bad Persona is way more popular than the mainline games, the latter are so much more fun.
>>733608535Does it really? I played it and liked it several years ago and didn't find it particularly mind blowing. I got the extra ending and everything.
op be like>wow this has the best menus of any game ever made
>>733608339Too bad it's another le enhanced edition so I'll never play it
>>733608339It's definitely up there. At this point however atlus has a worrying track record of releasing a first entry that has glaring flaws in the mechanics and then patching it with an enhanced edition.
>>733608452crpgs are kinda dogshit though.
>>733608339>V>Best gameplayIt's not even the best game in it's own franchise.
>>733608339I wish Atlus would update their Switch games.Persona 5R and SMT5V would be great with Switch 2 enhancements
>>733608339Retarded faggot.
>>733610043This one is like Nocturne Maniax where it's a no BS upgrade with no drawbacks. The original was also most definitely unfinished.
>>733610340>jrpg players when confronted with rpg mechanics for the first time
>>733610450That's the Vengeance version, you retard.
>>733610043>>733610715Nah CoV is worse than CoC, the story is terrible
>>733610941How is it worse than the super disjointed and sparse story from creation? I think it at least made a more entertaining companion piece to the exploration and combat.
>>733608339No. Not even the best in its series V fags need not reply
>>733610043I know, I played the original on the Switch and felt the unfinishedness first hand after waiting years for it to come out and supporting it day 1
>>733610751okay tell me one good crpg.
>>733610715Meant to send this/ to you>>733611351
>>733611465Not him but I greatly enjoy divinity original sin 1 and 2s combat. It's the everything else that sucks
>>733611351Playing it blind at launch was a rollercoaster ride. I was having fun with the exploration and combat, alongside the thrill of seeing all the demons and cool attack animations after the 3DS era. But when the characters start talking I just kinda look at the screen like this. They absolutely did not finish writing the plot before launch.
>>733610835Vengeance is barely an improvement over base V, you faggot.
>>733611842I remember the MASSIVE cope on /v/ playing defense when /smtg/ almost unanimously said it was shit. I unironcially blame tendies that is the only explanation
I bought the original on release, bought Vengeance last year but haven't played much since the first two areas are still too similar to the original and it's tedious to get through, I hate sand.

https://youtu.be/3Vs1KwPB6qw?si=dm8-DdJ7rESHdobuTheme of worse girl.
>>733611842Overall I was thoroughly enjoying it for 70% of the game. Then the terrible cutscene with the blond guy throwing his cap and becoming evil came. I overlooked it, and then I saw the extremely rushed ending in all 4 routes. Oh well.
>>733611960>tendiesThe ones defending V's dogshit "plot" were Noctrannies.
>>733613327Holy fucking based Yoko hater. Snakes are for killing, not siding with.
>>733608339yeah it's really good, a blobber SMT with V's combat mechanics would be the best game in the franchise. shame the world design and symbol encounters basically trivialize any and all danger/resource drain from exploration.
>>733613390That scene had my jaw hit the floor. I was in disbelief for a couple minutes.
>>733611085I think these games are better off with disjointed and sparse stories. Atlus can't into good writing, so all SMT does is come off as pseud slop, so having Yoko going 'hurr I'm the chaos rep why don't you kill your bullies' is just not doing it for me.
If V's plot is so bad, why did the Japanese not complain about it?
>>733613627the general japanese populace have bad taste. always have, always will
So when do you get out of the starting desert? I played for like 3 hours and got bored of the bland landscape and the dull ass music
>>733613710It's a Japanese game.
>>733613627What did they say about it?
>>733613901V's original story got some complaints but a lot of people that really liked it, more so than the western side. VV I saw almost no complaints outside of Yoko's ending because it didn't make sense and seemed deceptive.
>>733608339>the """""gameplay""""" in question
>>733614073Never compare the dogshit that SMT 3 to SMT 5(and SMT5V) ever again
>>733614073They're just overleveled here.
>>733614073I prefer this a hell of a lot more than the drawn out bullshit of E33.
>>733614073>press 1 button>watch cinematic experience battle animation>press 1 button>watch cinematic experience battle animation>press 1 button>watch cinematic experience battle animation>press 1 button...This has gotta be the most braindead gameplay I've ever seen. >>733608339Do you not play other JRPGs?
it doesn't even better combat than SMT4A in its own series, much less all RPGs
>>733614809V fags everyone
>>733611842Neptunia ReBirth 1 still has the best JRPG gameplay ever made
>>733608339It's very good, I don't normally finish a game and then immediately start a new playthrough. I want to fuck Naamah.
>>733614073what am I supposed to be upset about here
>>733608680Nah that anon is high
>>733608339Pretty much. The way boss encounters are handled is absolutely beyond what any other series in the genre attempts to do. My only complaint is how optimally 80% of my skill slots have to be used for passives leaving me with 2-3 active skills per character, this does not bother me much when it comes to demons, since I can have dozens of them to cover every scenario, but the Nahobino playing by the same rules when he needs to always be on the active party and be used in every battle kind of sucks, his ultimate builds boil down to buffing through passives and spamming one skill that bypasses all defenses and works in every scenario. I guess it's understandable from a gameplay perspective, since you always have so many devils that making the MC also overly versatile in his skillset would be overkill.
>>733614073>dood, the turn-based game has turns. isn't that like, lame?woah anon nice criticism you got there.
>>733610751I'll be honest with you anon I don't care about a game's ability to let you kill an enemy by sneaking around, lock picking multiple doors, and planting an explosive barrel in his toilet or rolling a nat 20 to convince him to commit seppuku or seducing an ancient statue guardian or whatever role playing crpgs offer. I only care about making myself stronger and fighting increasingly powerful enemies with cool abilities and attacks on my path to apotheosis. I absolutely get the appeal for more meticulous and fleshed out role playing options but I don't care about them because the only role I want to play in games is combat demigod.
>>733612203>I bought the original on release, bought Vengeance last year but haven't played much since the first two areas are still too similar to the originalexact same here. I don't even mind the environments that much, I like deserts, but yeah those first two areas are kind of a slog the second time around. I am right at the end of the second area I think and I'm hoping it picks up from there, but I ran out of steam and haven't got motivation to play it in awhile. I did like the original game a lot other than the story or lack of, but I feel a bit cheated having bought it on release. whatever. I'm happy support SMT mainline, take my money Atlus you fucks.
>>733608339If we're actually talking about rpg gameplay then button-mapped commands are far superior for using in rpgs with how much smoother it makes battles but menuniggers and SMTfags won't ever admit it since Persona popularized it.
>>733615887>My only complaint is how optimally 80% of my skill slots have to be used for passives leaving me with 2-3 active skills per characterThis summarizes my main gripe too. The mc should have his passives in swappable equipment like in the 3ds games, or condensed into a single powerful passive like in IVA specifically. Instead you have to use up slots for pleroma skills and crit skills if physical. You have such a tight build as a result that magic loses its main appeal, now it's just weaker than physical because you can't afford multiple elements worth of pleromas.
>>733616315Haven't played Persona because I don't care about the social sim aspects, or any rpg that has this style of menu navigation that I can think of, but I personally wouldn't have any issue with this being implemented in SMT if it handles well. I can't see it making a huge difference, but sure, whatever.
Autobattle already invalidates the claim of being the best anything, no serious RPG has autobattle functions
>>733616315>PersonaTry SMRPG.
>>733616864Keyword: "popularized"Not "invented".
>>733614049>because it didn't make sense and seemed deceptive.Well she is the snake after all.
>>733616736Untrue.
>>733608339Dormarth, my beloved!
>>733608339No, that's Etrian Odyssey which plenty of the people that worked on this game also worked on.
Who did you pick?
>>733616209You and most people out there, it's not a rare opinion to have at all. Nothing wrong with that, but role playing mechanics are objectively an important aspect of the gameplay when we're discussing what the best RPG is.
>>733617431Yoko is more fun to be around even if Tao is a more principled person.
>>733617431Law. The game shift towards that and how you still have a Law rep after you became a ninja
>>733608339yeah no duh honestly.
Yoko fits the negative, duplicitous, bad influence vision of a woman. Like Eve convincing Adam to eat the apple. While Tao is this ideally feminine and virtuous vision of a woman. I'm reading too much into it, but that was a takeaway that made it more interesting to me. Having your alignment reps be two women whispering in your ear along the way is a good concept.
>>733617431Law had a pretty strong argument this time around.
>>733608339True.
>>733608339Yeah SMT does tend to shine on gameplay.
>>733608339the smt gameplay is always good but it's a little lacking in other regards beyond gameplayi know /v/ likes to pretend gameplay is king and that you could all live out your days playing tetris on atari, but i've come to demand more
>>733619881V fucking sucks in basically every department. I sold a ton of people on IV with the music and God tier atmosphere and most lived it from that angle. Pretty much every SMT game other than V does at least 2 things really fucking well.
>>733619881They also usually have excellent music and atmosphere. The only area they're really lacking in is story, which to be honest is like the last thing I care about in games. And the story usually isn't even *that* bad, it's moreso just sparse than outright poorly written. I actually liked SMTIV's story. V is probably the worst offender, and even it has some decent occult writing sprinkled in among demon interactions and stuff, which I find more compelling than a Persona-esque character-driven story. I totally understand that I'm in the minority on that though, and that there's a reason Persona has a much wider appeal than mainline. I get it. But I'm glad both series can coexist for different audiences.
>>733608339>the most shilled game on /v/ by retards>still sells like shitlmao
4 and 4: apocalypse are some of my favourite games ever. I tried the Vanilla version of V and gave up after 12 hours. The open world wasn't worth exploring, the story was awful and there's a song in the 2nd world that is the worst music I've ever heard in a video game. I decided to grab Vengeance recently and I'm loving it. The world is easier to get around because they have rails to shorten travel, the new story bits are basically just the edgy new villains doing edgy things. That song in the 2nd stage is still there but the music is actually really fantastic aside from that. Not as good as 4/4A but better than most triple A shit, especially if you're into ambient music. TLDR fun game.
>>733616962You will eat the apple and achieve gnosis. A snake wouldn't lie to you about that.
>>733616209No, you just wanna see the numbers go big like a mindless retard. That's it. Ice boss? You just wanna press 1 button, select Fireball from the menu, spam it and see big numbers go up. Water boss? You just wanna press 1 button, select Thunderbolt from the menu, spam it and see big numbers go up. Retards like you usually get filtered hard when the gameplay requires positioning, map awareness and optimal order of using the units at your disposal.
I hope they remaster raidou kuzunoha vs King abaddon. I like the mainline but I got a real soft spot for of all the ps2 era spin offs like raidou, persona 3/4, and DDS
>>733614073my demons are a bit different
>>733608339Dunno if I would go that far but the game is great, I really like it. Like a 9 or maybe 9.5/10.
>>733620843Highest selling mainline SMT game, retard.
>>733621657Also if anyone with any say is reading this put 4 on modern consoles. 3 and 5 are my favorites but 4 is also really cool. Do Strange Journey while youre at it. persona sucks ass and ruins everything good about smt both from a gameplay and story perspective. I will die on this hill
>>733621832a 4 remaster would be awesome, but I feel like it only got away with having so much content by being a pretty low budget handheld game. it has something like 150 more demons than Vengeance, that's a lot more 3D models to make. I mean, a straight port would be cool too for people who don't have a 3ds to play it on, but I'm assuming they would want to modernize it a bit. some of those sprites were getting pretty dated even on the 3ds.
>>733608452>liking BS2 gameplay
>>733620843>man whose entire world is 4changrim
>>7336215451 > 2. I really do not like the story in 2. Its take place in the village instead of early 1900s japan and I don't like the people in that village all taht well
>>733622439BS2 is the only RPG Maker game where combat is actually fun and engaging. Allowing the MC to use an entire arsenal of cool magical weapons he gathered throughout the game is also a really cool concept. The only thing that drags it down is the clunkyness of the weapon swap menu.
>>733623326>BS2 is the only RPG Maker game where combat is actually fun and engagingRetard. Play more RPG maker games. You have shit like succubus academia which is also rpgm and of course MGQP
>>733621507Awful lot of assumptions there anon, especially ones not applicable to smt to begin with. There's a lot more than pressing one button for damage. You have to manage your turn economy as you maintains buffs/debuffs/switching out demons that ran out of mp etc. I play plenty of srpgs as well that require strategy and positioning. I just don't care about having the ability to talk down opponents or having working stealth and crafting systems so that I can negotiate/poison the food of my enemy in my demigod simulator. I just want combat that's refined and strategic instead of requiring a dozen different indirect approaches to be viable for the sake of roleplay. That's really the fundamental difference between crpgs and jrpgs from what I've seen. This admittedly makes the RPG moniker rather weak for the latter.
>>733608339I instantly checked out when you had to go to class after the first area.
>>733610450you are entitled to your shitty nigger opinion, fag
>>733618206I dunno if I'd say Yoko's duplicitous. She just has autism.
>>733624296idiot lol
>>733611842The Story was serviceable, and thats all it needed to be.I played it after 3 and 1, so it felt like a healthy middleground concerning narration.Really, the only problem i have is minmaxxing demons is a autists true nightmare.Thats the reason i didnt finish the game either, i woud have to do some crazy grinding for maybe 20 more points in all stats for a target demon, sometimes even less points due to how warriors conception and the other stat growth miracles work.I made a perfect Idunn, and the Archangels(Only cause you need fixed Demons for their fusion) and stopped before the shiva fight.Didnt play the game in 3 years, i will probaly never finish it.I sometimes wish Atlus woud make another game like SMT1, where you truly had to shuffle your team every level and constantly get new demons for stronger spells.Skill Inheritence kinda sucks.
>>733622439BS2's gameplay is a lot of fun, especially on an SL 1 run.
>>733616864Definitely still SMRPG. That game is legendary.
>>733608339>>733608452SMT is perhaps the only JRPG series to take Wizardry's mechanics and actively build upon and refine them in a way otherwise only seen in WRPGs.
>>733618206That's not the version of the creation story they're using though. Adam and Eve are purely gnostic in V. Eve is actually the savior and knowledge of Adam and to commit original sin is actually achieving gnosis and leaving the Demiurge's fake reality (in this case YHVH and all his angels desperately clinging to his old order). And Lucifer is refereed to as "the christ".
>>733628020
God I hate Alice.
>>733621545I dunno I think 2 plays good enough to not need one really. Raidou 1make plays pretty good but there's some stuff I really don't like, like how the gun feels and the cooldown stuff. no auto repeat function for demons also blows ass, sometimes I want them to do a specific thing and not just whatever they think is the best
>overshadowed by the p3 remake and then overshadowed even harder by metaphor it was definitely a much better game than the former at least
>>733630479It really wasn't "overshadowed". If any game was overshadowed it was the Raidou remake. That should have sold much better than it did.
>>733630560>Raidou that's less of an "overshadow" and more of a "gigantic flop" Of those 3 SMTVV also performed the worst by a wide margin
>>733630657>Of those 3 SMTVV also performed the worst by a wide marginlol no. It sold exactly as expected and it was also made on the cheap with reused assets. Raidou was worked on from the ground up because surveys listed Raidou as one of the top most demanded remakes only for it to sell under expectations most likely.
>>733627409>and refine them in a way otherwise only seen in WRPGs.I really don't see that in WRPGs. Almost all WRPGs choose to be ARPGs.
>>733630809please read
>>733630928Read what? Your no source for SMTVV performing the worst?
>>733631046you are either illiterate or coping (or both)
>Atlus only upcoming game is the Persona 4 remake>It looks very early in development and unlikely to release this year. What are they cooking? Is there any hope for a SMT6 announcement this year or is it too early?
>>733631198said at new years not to expect something from the SMT side for awhile they're already struggling to get an announcement out for their flagship franchise and P4R has an insanely bad first look they have to overcome the next time they show it, only other thing from another IP that can be reasonably expected anytime soon is a metaphor rerelease and that will probably bridge p4r with p6
>>733608339Yeah top 3
>>733631114I saw the sales report from SEGA that said VV sales met expectations. Raidou clearly did not because it wasn't mentioned in the last sales report at all. You are coping.
>>733631198It doesn't look good. Only hope for something SMT related in the foreseeable future is Doi's comment in an interview when VV came out saying he wants to talk about the dev side of the game but he has to wait until his "next opportunity". There is no telling what next opportunity implies but for some reason he's waiting on something. Artbook? Switch 2 dlc for VV (because the game runs like shit and is FPS capped)? Something else? Who knows. VI is barely even started.
>>733631198too early, gaps between the SMTs are getting bigger so we're probably in for more spinoffs before we get 6
>>733632457>gaps between the SMTs are getting biggerhey, technically the gap between III and IV was a couple years longer than between IV and V...but yeah I wouldn't expect anything for a good while. VI wouldn't be until 2029 at the earliest, assuming a similar time frame as between IV and V, and relative to V's initial announcement that *would* signal a VI reveal soon, but I imagine they only announced V so early to coincide with the reveal of the Switch, probably at Nintendo's behest, and I doubt they will announce anything so far ahead of time again. and even if they did, it would be an extremely barebones teaser like V had. and that's best case scenario, I wouldn't get my hopes up for 2029. remember V was pretty unfinished at launch which is why we even got Vengeance. would suck to wait a decade between entries, but it's not the first time for this series, and if it means we get a mostly complete game at launch, then fine.
>>733608339Wrong, Tales of Legia most fun combat.
>>733633736>the gap was larger between III and IVif you don't count SJ yeah you're right. I like to but I get those who don't.
>>733633878yeah I was just thinking of numbered games but counting SJ is valid. I doubt we will ever get another spinoff like that again. games like that are the real casualty of losing handheld systems. everything has to be scaled up for console, and that takes more time to develop, and I doubt they're gonna invest into an SMT game that isn't Personal or SMT VI. might not even get another remaster for awhile if Raidou flopped. I'd love a modern dungeon crawler from Atlus like SJ or even a new Etrian Odyssey but that doesn't seem very likely these days either.but yeah either way you count it, I wouldn't expect a new SMT until around 2030 at the earliest.
>>733610450>le heckin tired character drinking coffee reaction imagealways the most obnoxious faggot.
>>733608339Correct. Great combat mechanics + Grest Party Building + Great Encounter design. It's the apex.
>>733610941Both plotlines were bad. Atlus zoomer employees can’t write a good SMT for plot, and that’s normal - the JP occult craze in pop culture was a ting in the 80/90s, they haven’t been exposed to it.
>>733617431I got locked into Chaos and didn't get to pick. I like Yoko more than Tao but prefer Mastema over both. I also liked Dazai and was sad I had to fight him.The route lock comes way too late and the endings themselves are kinda underwhelming.
>>733638356The issue with most writing everywhere these days. Everyone is writing based off of other people's stories because media has defined so much of the youth experience. In the past most writers didn't even have exciting lives but they had a wide range of interests that showed in their work even if that interest was some boring ass shit.
>>733608339>SMT 5 IS LE GOOD NOW GUYZZZZ>still has a shitty story, shitty characters and dialogueNo, it's not good kys
>>733623326>BS2 is the only RPG Maker game where combat is actually fun and engagingPeople play one (1) RPG Maker game and say factually incorrect shit like this. Now go play Enchant Farm and cast aside your ignorance.
>>733608339Yeah Atlus pretty much cornered the market on turn-based jrpgs. Actually the Trails developers are there too. But Atlus has most jrpgs flat out beat unless they involve something that goes beyond standard turn-based in some way or even involves action. Like FFXII, Grandia (I only played II), any of the better Tales game, Seiken Densetsu 3.
Gameplay in question
>>733617431Why they look like smt2 alice
>>733608339>open world side quest goyslopNo thanks, bro, I'm sick of that kind of design. Nocturne beats the shit out of VV and has way better music too.
>>733608339I can't argue with that. The jumping is the best thing that happened to SMT since the reverse cowgirl compendium fusion.
I'm around 10 hours in, boss battles are no joke in this game. Still I have no idea what's going on story-wise.
>>733643153>nocturne>doesnt have alice
>>733644034Does it not? Didn't notice.
Whats the best way to play smt 1 and 2
>>733644232I liked the PS1 version of 1 and reccomend it, it got an English translation a couple years ago. If you can read Japanese then I'd also recommend PS1 for 2, but it's not translated as of now. SNES is translated and the only real English option as far as I know.
ATTENTION: I'd like to interrupt this thread about gameplay for a moment to appreciate how good the OST is. Thank you, may the Mara of good fortune visit your dreams.
>>733644232PSX version is what I played. Then I played 2 and a few other Altus games for psx as well and got a bunch of save file bonuses for SMT if. Play if, but be prepared to play it twice, the second play through pick the secret partner and get a completely different game which is considerably better than the first playthrough.
>>733611960This game has had massive change in gamer opinion since launch. It was deemed pretty meh or bad and now it has a legit fanbase that loves replaying it more than any other SMT.
>>733632052they were not talking about raidou at all, they were talking about the three games they brought up in the first place (smtvv, p3, metaphor).
>>733631198next year is the 35th anniversary and yamai already basically said "SMT will have to wait (for it's anniversary)"https://personacentral.com/atlus-2026-aspirations-tease/>Thanks to everyone’s support, we were able to release the title I was responsible for in 2025. That means 2026 will be a year of preparation.>Incidentally, Atlus has several milestone anniversaries coming up, but Shin Megami Tensei‘s turn is still a little ways off.
>>733644921That doesn't mean an anniversary game.
>>733608339Eh it was okay. It didn't really have that adventurous feel other SMTs have. The story is dog shit. It was a very good creature collector and seeing the demons in proper 3D (fuck the gacha slop) was incredible. Besides that meh.
>>733614245it is the exact same shit, what the fuck?
>>733608339That's not Metaphor
>>733643646This asshole >>733643153 punched god in the face and he died. The Devil read God's employee handbook and got depression and decided to convert to Buddhism. In their absence, everyone in heaven and hell and every myth decides they want to be the new God. The base game plot is US government (Angels) vs Japanese Nationalists (Myriad Gods) vs banning everyone. The Vengeance route is Japanese Nationalists backed by US glowies (Glowie Angel) vs scrapping the system entirely (Snake Slut Terrorists).
>>733631262>and P4R has an insanely bad first look they have to overcome the next time they show itP4R is not being developed by Atlus.
>>733646897>US government (Angels)Bethel is never mentioned to even have a US branch, what do you mean by that
>>733647104The dynamic between Bethel and the other countries is clearly a metaphor for the UN and the US's setting sun as the leader of global politics.
>>733647174I can see that. What does that make Mastema then?
>>733647245He's the aforementioned glowie.

>>733644851Apparently you can't read. >smtvv did the worst between p3 and metaphor>except it sold exactly as much as they wanted>but uhhh, it sold lessThey did not expect it to match SMTV sales. For a double dip within 2 years it did well.

>>733647174Also Mastema mention he had to cross the sea to reach Japan, implying he came he from Bethel America.

>>733644803>now it has a legit fanbase that loves replaying it more than any other SMT.Yeah called secondaries which was exactly my point. It's in my opinion the worst mainline game (still 7/10)
>>733649735I have played SMT I just didn't make the connection. Maybe I would've if I played CoC and had Koshimizu explain to me why Bethel is bad and Japan should rearm and nuke Korea and China.
>>733650004>secondariesI've played more SMT games than you.
>>733644232QoL on the PS1 seems too good to pass up. I played the SNES translation years ago and it was jank but good enough
>>733650265I have played every translated SMT game except and devil summoner because I refuse to use scripts and am an EOP. If you have played more good on ya my nip still isn't good enough
>>733608339>game that made stupid changes to "balance" the gameplay so personafags can finally get into the franchise>best gameplayyeah sure, next time play 4A, SJ or any good blobber before making such a stupid post, you fucking faggot
>>733650569>I refuse to use scriptsYou are weak.
v is a massive disappointment to real fans. Another IP that was raped to cater to retards
>>733651042IV and IV/A are amazing games and we will never get anything that even comes close to the kino.
>>733652556Sorry I meant IV.
>>733608339I want this gameplay but in smt4 setting, with actual "towns" and npcs. I dream for the day we see a SMT overworld with demons of all types and sizes fighting in the background and whatnot, but that wont ever happen
>>733634479>I'd love a modern dungeon crawler from Atlus like SJ or even a new Etrian Odyssey but that doesn't seem very likely these days either.I hate it, man.Their DRPGs were where they shined. The fusable monster stuff is cool and all, but the real strength was dungeon design.
>>733652654>IV is amazingIt's slightly above average for Atlus blobbers once you get past the terrible intro. Love the intro in concept, awful in execution.Puzzle Boy > The best EO games > Jack Bros > the best MT games > Synchronicity > the rest of core EO > the middle MT games and some spinoffs like P1, Soul Hackers 1, etc > Catherine > PQ > Persona 3-5 > Atlus platformers > Persona 2 > Etrian Mystery Dungeon > #FE > Soul Hackers 2 > Actual garbo games from Atlus
>>733652341I keep hearing how good devil summoner is and I don't want to ruin it. Conversely ronde sounds shit in every way and I don't care to play it
>>733652656Both are true but doubly so for V
>>733608339it's a really good game but the enviroments are beyond fucking boring and repetitiveI remember the sidequests being shit too
>>733653935Outside of the meme picks puzzle boy and Jack bros I agree with your list EXACTLY except entrain mystery dungeon should be below #iron
>>733653981I haven't played Ronde but I did play NINE using a script. It's not bad at all.
>>733654335NINE is never getting a full translation patch so I really should just do it. I still have HOPE for devil summoner
>>733654128>Meme picksKwirk is an actual masterpiece.Jack Bros is also really fucking good.I'll concede Kowashitai over EMD.
>>733654128EOMD being shit was the biggest disappointment of my young adult life. Shiren and Etrian are both fantastic.
>>733653981It's just Soul Hackers with less vibes and worse dungeons. If you liked Soul Hackers, you'll enjoy it.
I played CoV first and found Yoko kinda insufferable, she had some good points but then she'd randomly go on tangents about cars being evil. And it was pretty annoying that you got forced into aligning with her world-view if you made enough sympathetic choices to demons through the game. Tao was alright, very 'safe' as a character, kind of the opposite issue of not ever being extreme enough. Then I played creation and actually enjoyed it a lot more since the duo weren't chiming in every five seconds. Abdiel playing a bigger role in CoC was nice, Dazai's arc made way more sense and I liked the ending choices better. I'm sure for people who loved Yoko or Tao Vengeance was more fun, but aside from the Lilith Squad I genuinely didn't enjoy it as much as Creation. On the final point, I feel like neither route doing anything with Sahori was pretty lame, she could've been a neato chaos rep.
>>733656335Tao is too precious to be a SMT character.
>>733657145Tao is a diet Amane.
>>733656335I like that both routes are complimentary and you feel like you get the bigger picture by playing both. I think its OK for Sahori to just be a midboss, not everybody has to make it to the finish. Lahmu being tied to all the plotlines in both routes but always failing in the first half is pretty neat for an early game villain that sets everything up.
>>733630897>Almost all WRPGs choose to be ARPGs.That's mostly for the bigger budget games that aim for a console audience. CRPGs either go isometric RTwP or TB 99% of the time, although whether you'd call either system an evolution of Wizardry or their own beast is a different question.
On this episode of /smtg/ leaving their dead general for engagement on /v/ we bring you:The same posts and arguments you have already seen.
>>733642959What did she meant by this?
>>733608339This is the first RPG I played where the characters and dialogue were so mind-numbingly bad that I was actively skipping cutscenes just to get to the actual game. The Japanese may be soulless bug men but man they can make a good RPG.
>>733657974>STOP HAVING OPINIONS I DISLIKE Get owned.
Easily the worst SMT, shilled purely by trannies who were raped by their dad
