Is it ok if I skip out on 3 and play 4? Im aware that these ryu's are from different timelines but would I be missing much plot wise?
>>733626527You'll be fine. But I recommend emulating and installing an uncensor patch
BoF4 is one of the best games ever made for the playstation. It even aged well because its mostly 2d art and 3d environments
>>733626630>uncensor patchI found it. Thanks for the heads up!>>733626845>It even aged well because its mostly 2d art and 3d environmentsIt's beautiful from what ive seen!
theyre very different games thematically, but not really related storywise. even if you do skip 3 and go right to 4, i suggest going back to it some time. its got a very retro charm to it, even for a ps1 - game it feels a bit more like a fairy tale while the 4th one is a bit more of a mature eastern style game. i also like the fishing in 3 better, but i never actually finished 4 so i can't say which is better
4's camera made me want to punch the wall. The devs did fuck-all for letting you see through walls that are completely in the way of your character sprite and nearby paths.
>>733627064>I found it. Thanks for the heads up!No problem. It's an amazing RPG, hope you enjoy it as much as I did
The dragon transformation felt really bad in BoF4 and using 3D models for them was really a bad idea. I really don't understand why a large majority of people seem to prefer BoF4 over BoF3.
SEX WITH MOMO
>>733626527It's not okBoF3 is a good game and should be played
>>733630569BoF4 looks better, that's pretty much it
BoF3 is special, I wouldn't skip it. The world and characters feel special even though there's not a whole lot of dialog in the game. You see Ryu's growth as a character from his strength in combat. In the beginning he's just a weakling with only healing spells, flailing his sword with each attack. Statistically he's weaker than Teepo and Rei. When it's required to protect Nina though, he swings his sword with confidence and begins drawing out his dragon forms. His stats from level ups begin to accelerate. Then as an adult he outshines the other party members in strength and unlocking more powerful dragon forms that trivialize the game.Party members like Nina, Rei and Momo are one dimensional characters but that's by design. They're just caught up in the struggle of the Brood and the Goddess that's been going on for thousands of years. Shame Capcom gave up on the franchise because it doesn't sell. You can see bits and pieces of Breath of Fire in other Capcom games like Mega Man X Command Mission and Monster Hunter Stories but it's not the same. I'm not a huge fan of BoF4 because the party in the game makes some really stupid decisions and the huge stretch of filler at the start of Act 3 all the way until you reach the Empire capital.
>>733626527Yes but if you like 4 give 3 a try. It's much less of a bummer.
>>733626527Yes, though you should play 3 too
>>7336305693 has some major pacing issues compared to 4.>Training the nerd>The sushi quest>Crossing the desertI do think 3 is overall more enjoyable than 4, though.
>>733626527Let me be first to say this, even though you did not ask. Do not skip BoF5: Dragon QuarterThis game gets so much hate because it's so much different from previous games, but you should definitely try it.
>>733633937If the D-Counter didn't increase just from walking/entering battle people would probably be more charitable to it.
>>733626527No
>>733626527They both suck to be honest
>>733626527I skipped 1, played and beat 2 entirely and loved the kino transformation and town architecture/resident system and tried to get into 3/4 but it doesn't feel the same as 2. That is all.
>>7336339074 also has pacing issue, practically almost entire chapter 3 is a filler where you head to capital and visit random locale on the way and solve their problems, the game also has shitton amount of mandatory minigames to waste more of your time.
>>733630761She's so great. This weirdo scientist upends her comfy life to help a couple of kids she doesn't even know for no reward and then when they show up like a decade later saying they're gonna go meet God she does it AGAIN just out of scientific curiosity and to help her friends. I love my sweet weirdo science wife.
>>733627180I remember the fishing grind for Scias' weapon, not as much of the bof3 grind which I think was just enough to progress
>>733634306Realistically, walking only adds 2-3% on your D-counter. Battles reward quick fights so that maybe adds another 3% if you're not retarded. But that's not your point. The fact the D-Counter goes up by walking artificially puts the game on a time limit. That shit puts off a lot of gamers. I did a run without using D-Dive/Dash once and I made it to Elyon with only 16% on the counter. Fuck that fight legit though. I always D-Dive D-charge x3 and Twister to end the fight.
>>733634306Learning how the d-counter works is part of a meta-level strategy, they basically expect players to lose because of it at least once, which could be seen as a flaw since a lot of players don't want to waste time/miss stuff. The whole thing is like its own problem you have to solve, it's especially obvious when you get to the main story bosses who have a damage threshold you have to overcome every turn. If you don't know how to use the dragon efficiently you might waste too much gauge, or even do those fights without transforming cause you're worried about wasting it. The designers were very self aware of this, it's a deliberate mind game they use (and it's good)
>>733633937I wonder if anyone would give a shit about it if it wasn't a BoF game.
>>733635915Sure, the story wouldn't be that hard to change since it's so far in the future, it's basically just swapping Ryu and Nina for less recognizable characters. It would be at least the same popularity if not a little more.
