Just beat Dybbuk with the crappiest team, thanks to the persuasion device.
What are some other fun quests to look out for?

I don't understand people who say Mage is a bad class. Get Warp on that thing and you'll never get hit.
>>
>>733631685
And then what? There's a lot of movement skills on the other classes too.
Mage is bad to try and run fresh because 75% of its skills and passives suck massive ass. There's some decent stuff there but it's like Tinkerer where you have to luck into it first then breed it into new cats. And preferably play those cats as another class.
>>
>>733631685
Mage along with fighter are the easiest classes to build into dumbfuck megadamage builds. I think many people are sincerely too stupid to build mage.
>>
>>733631729
Hit and run tactics.
>>
>>733631772
Fighter sure but mage? Its damage doesn't scale that well considering spells deal fixed damage. you'd need to buff magic damage repeatedly and there aren't that many ways to do that

+5 Chr for the rest of the battle feels insanely situational. How is this a single-use consumable?
>>
>>733631886
Good for if you have crazy Int but meh Charisma I guess. For a boss fight
The pills are also ridiculously common.
>>
>Get mage
>Some assfuck durr extra fire damage passive
>Except none of the spell rolls give fire spells

Classic mage.
>>
>>733631886
Same for the Doll up spell.
>>
>>733631938
More of Mage's stuff would be good if it applied to the whole team like that one that buffs any cats that cast expensive abilities.
>>
>>733631886
are you talking about the jazzy pill that also gives 6 mana or something else? getting charisma after the battle starts is kind of useless.
>>
>>733631928
The thing is that its a consumable so you get the Chr boost AFTER the battle starts so the only benefit you get is an increase to your max mana. Like, I can see it helping if your Chr took a hit, but not as a single-use item.

>>
holy fuck monks are so busted. I had one that could attack 40 times a turn with that ability that gives 1 extra attack for every unarmored body piece
>>
>>733632360
leechbuilds are rare, you're better off doing undead or suicide builds (or just using necro as a glorified tank as a last resort)
>>
>>733632360
>>733632792
are the leech familiar and leech status effect both called the same thing? if we're talking about "leeches" online how are we supposed to know which one we're talking about? (ill just assume it's not the familiar because the familiar is shit)
>>
I just unlock desert
Should I go act2 or grind act1?
>>
Which class is the best for equip AI hat?
Sometimes do nothing useful but sometimes really strong
>>
>>733632854
>are the leech familiar and leech status effect both called the same thing?
yeah, it's confusing.
The big leech familiar passive is alright, and the ability that surrounds enemies with leeches is necro's best ability hands down. But generally when people talk about necro leech builds, they mean the leech status effect and having a necro build (or party build) that allows you to stack insane leech status on enemies.
>>
>>733632360
if you get that skill that inflict 3 leeches on every unit that's all the healing you need. Bosses get 3 leech stacks for every square of their size, so big 6 tiles bosses get 18 leeches per cast.
You probably want hp regen on your other cats to counteract the effect.
>>
What does luck do outside of events and crit chance? How much does it even improve, can you check it somewhere during battle?
>>
>>733632360
I accidentally got a necromancer that spawns flies on enemy turns and spawns leeches on hit with the basic attack, and the "replace" ability which let me teleport onto summons and refresh my attack, they had high int and charisma so they could teleport around enemies looping basic attacks up to like 8 times. Is that leechmaxxing?
I'm really early into the game so I hope I get more luck like that and even crazier setups, this feels like playing isaac for the first time
>>
>>733631685
if the mage gets that passive that increases damage when allies cast spells and some aoe like mega blast it's super good
>>
>>733632089
>Send feedback to the mods instead via feedback or irc,

>>733633079
This site has gone downhill so badly ever since moot left, which is over a decade ago now iirc. It is nigh impossible to flag these issues with the mods anymore. I don't think any of them use the irc anymore and the feedback page no longer allows you to submit anything other than a bug report.
>>
>>733631772
Mage and necromancer have this problem where if your rolls are shit they suck and if they're good they're amazing and can destroy everything. This becomes less of a problem the further you get, but still shows
>>
>>733633296
They stopped letting people submit anything because they don't intend to do anything about the reports, /vg/ is full of schizophrenic homosexual avatarfags that are friends with jannies and mods, causing generals to be constantly shitted. I think it's a bit annoying how the family tree doesn't quite track properly. I have a cat who I know for a fact is on some level a descendant of my original two cats but when I open the window I can't see them. Man this game has so many aspects to it that I love but every time I play it I just get fucking frustrated as shit
I'm finding shit I dislike about it in the same vein I dislike shit in Darkest Dungeon or FTL

I can't stand non-combat encounters where RNG decides if you get a reward or if you get completely and absolutely fucked
Like my last run was on an incredible pace to see the caves for the first time but my hyper-carrying fighter rolled poorly on an RNG encounter and their HP and MP were both reduced to 1 permanently so my incredible setup fell apart in an instant where I had absolutely no control over the situation
It's exactly like
>Oops your Man-at-Arms is a kleptomaniac now because you walked by a bookcase
>Time to lose all sorts of rewards because the game says so
>Oops your 30 minute run was ruined because the cat integral to your strategy rolled poorly and now they're completely worthless

How am I supposed to enjoy shit like this? At least in FTL 90% of the time you can just say no to all the bullshit random encounters if you don't want to risk anything but here its just
>Probably good option (which can still fuck you)
or
>Obvious option you shouldn't pick because your stat doesn't favor it in the slightest (terrible outcome likely)

If you go past Bunker, bring water there's fire and lava. Most enemies there are fire proof.

Past Crater is Moon. Moon gives +2 range and knock back. The boss is puzzle so don't worry if you get downed and injured in fights. The midboss twins are bound to cause injuries. The Moon boss, if you go into its mouth, it's not insta kill. Instead the Moon boss chews the cat for 5-6 damage per turn and the cat in the mouth has special command to make the boss hit itself and drop its guard. If you go moon, don't show your butt to the aliens

There are two ways to play (assuming you don't suck). You either rush through the content or complete extra runs for unlocks. Rushing will (potentially) make things harder in the late game, but you run the risk of adding dozens of hours to your play time if you start grinding unlocks early. Pick your poison.

For context, I have only wiped once (intentionally for the dead cat vendor), and I just cleared the Unidentified Pills + Tina Head quests in the same run. I have about 35 hours invested in the game.

If anything losing runs will prevent you from getting upgrades. Think about it, Frank and Butch can only take cats that have been on adventures, that means you can't give more than 4 cats to them collectively each day but just the first two upgrades from both will take a combined 35 cats. You aren't meant to unlock those upgrades too fast. You aren't really gimping yourself either because either way it's going to take a lot of runs to upgrade them and those two are the longest upgrades that also greatly improve your ability to prepare for future runs (Butch especially because he lets you store gear sets for the future). Some of your runs might be a little harder because of how fast you're progressing and because you're less preped but if you're winning who cares? If anything it's a good way for the difficulty to sort of scale with how good someone is.

IDK exactly how it works, but you can definitely get the act 2 house bosses before finishing Guillotina. My boss order was Guillotina 1>Zaratana>Pyrophina>Guillotina 2>Zaratana+Pyrophina>Guillotina 3. It really sucked, since progression into act 3 is locked behind access to Throbbing Domain, which means I was stuck for a really long time. I cleared act 2 in ~30 hours, then it took me another 50+ hours to actually unlock Throbbing Domain where I was basically just grinding Dr. Beanies quests.

This cat pair is churning out perfect 7s
Remember: You don't need to breed your 7 stat cats, just use the two cats who have the mutations you want or are not that closely related who make up for each others weaknesses

Pretty sure that ability isn't even bad if you can stack armor. You've got some learning to do if you're getting filtered by Sewer. Most of the game's nonsense can be played around, and that's part of the fun.

I have a room that has a bonded pair that just shit out perfect kittens every day. I throw the prefect kittens into general containment (the orgy pit), and things have gotten out of hand very quickly.

Once I get some solid mutations I will use a second room for breeding that into a new set of perfect kittens with good mutations.

>>733644401
He's the hardest to build well and I think his builds are less obvious. He can also do a lot, ranged damage, melee damage, tanking, healing, making summons, making traps but you won't really get to pick what he does. You can pick Tank or Butcher and know that they can tank for you, you can't pick Tinkerer and know he's going to be your tank until you see his starting skills. Some people say he's gear dependent but I think that's also untrue as he actually makes better use of worse gear making him actually kind of less gear dependent if you know what/when to give him.
His builds I've gotten to work are:
Tech based, build up tech and build tier 3 weapons or robots. Nursebot makes this build a strong healer. The passive that makes you upgrade your weapon instead of throw it makes this into one of the strongest DPS builds especially if you can manage to get 3 Tech turn 1.
Explosion build: Explosion passive and especially the Jetpack are good for this. You need to build him tanky or he will kill himself but I had a tanky Tinkerer that started every fight by just suicide bombing the back line and taking out half the board. There's also a good passive for this one that makes your explosions electric and stuns things. I've gotten this build to work a few different ways but the "glue" is always the jetpack skill, especially once its upgraded but the rocket boots work too.
Tank Build: Pretty straight forward, use good armor, take the armor boosting passives, stand in the front line.
Robot spam: Exactly what it says, spam damage bots. Tech and electric damage both help but aren't needed to make this work.
Item abuse build: Equip him with strong gear and make use of his passive and skills that let you upgrade gear or get more use out of it. In particular the passive that doubles your armor effects makes a ton of wacky build possible, so many you can't even list out the possibilities.
>>
>>733645235
Better hope you have ranged cats otherwise they're actually going to keep getting knocked around and eventually crushed to death. Happened to me ;_;
>>
>>733645035
There are pick up builds for some classes. I once had a butcher with the cleric passive that made him share pickups with the team, it was insanely good. I could imagine a Druid with that passive and this skill would be similarly insane.
>>
>>733645052

>>
>>733645340
if you ever see squirrel, always pick it no matter what, it's probably the strongest druid active because it can carry an entire run just by itself with no other specific synergies or stats needed
wolf form is pretty good too but you had to pick a druid with good strength (shouldn't be an issue if your cats are perfect 7s)

My very first tinkerer got research+ and use weapons twice passive. I was basically spamming 2x rocket launchers a turn, or 2x GIANT LOG.. With a low roll being the uzi, which was still decent.
>>
>>733645608
was disappointed when i tried to use a similar item that caused you to start with poison

apparently poison immunity means "you cant acquire any NEW stacks of poison," but if you START with stacks from some kind of an item or disorder then it stop that from happening
>>
>>733645663
squirrel form summons 4 ADULTS for 10 and your new basic actions gives all squirrels boosted attack
so you have 4 rapists with like 4x? damage that can fly across the map, it clears basically every room easily AND you get to summon adults every turn for just 2 mana (the non-form summon adult squirrel is 6 mana btw)
>>
If I choose the thief passive that turns its basic attack into a two hit melee one, that means it scales with strength instead of dexterity right?

Necro should be played as a leech merchant ngl, the summoner build for Necro is dogshit. I wouldn't bother with it. I got 190 leeches before on Pyrophina since leech spam is that good since it takes from the hp. So look at this for example, just leeching that fucker would end the fight >>733646776
Necro is comfy if you understand that sucking damage is more important than the raw damage since its a lot more consistent to get off. Onions milk with the 3x Leech passive with the one that restacks upon basic and youll see some truly disgusting work being done
It can do other stuff but that's what I like most about it lol. I did solo Dybbuk with a necro too

the game is called mewgenics because you use generations of cats, so don't get too attached to individual cats but do get attached to their bloodline
if you hover over enemies for a second you get a brief description of what they do, always read them
mage is complete shit, you didn't just "get unlucky" it almost always is a waste of time, never pick it after you unlock the 5th class
going on 3 cat runs is viable to get retired super powered cats because 1 less cat means more level ups for the rest (you'll want them eventually, you'll know why when it happens)
always read your other abilities and passives to fish for potential synergy when your cats level up
again, read what the fucking enemies do, i can't stress the importance of this enough

if you mean moon final boss, stay on the sides to avoid wind, dont ever enter in front of his mouth or IKs, don't stay in front of his hands on new round. if you don't have way to dispell his brace or tons of damage to over come it, hitting a hand turns it around, and hitting it from the back sends it flying. send it against the boss to get rid of the brace and go damage him. on normal mode as long as you manipulate the hands there isn't much threat (on hard on the other hand...)

>>733647974
most roguelite basics apply; getting fucked by random events is part of the game. if you're not confident in your team, go home instead of trying to push through another location, it's always better to return with underleveled cats and gear over losing it, especially since just having a retired cat lets you donate to room increase guy. also, don't hesitate using your equipment, that counts both during the campaign as well as equipping your cats. until you have large item limit, your item storage will likely be bottleneck and you'll have to keep trashing good amount of loot anyway
>>
>>733648545
It was giving me trouble until I started just aggressively positioning cats at his diagonals and never even with him. Too many builds can start a chain of sucking up and spitting out but if you never stand in cardinal directions and destroy the pills with cats that can't attack diagonally he just bounces around building up poison which is easily countered with any healing. Like I am not kidding when I say just never position on a cat in a line with him, your better off completely passing a turn and doing nothing in a lot of cases.
>>
>>733648397
yes anon if you pick the shit class every time you'll be stuck on act 2 for 2+ weeks
i beat jurassic with mage btw but he was extremely mediocre and hunter/butcher/jester did all the work even though i picked mage specifically because i had a cat with an inherited passive and active that should've made mage extremely strong (monk's mind breaker and fist of fate)
>>
>>733648710
>dont ever enter in front of his mouth or IKs
It's actually not if you have a tanky cat with regen it can even help but I wouldn't recommend doing it the first time you fight him. I had a fighter survive inside him for like 4 turns and every turn I got to remove the brace for free by using the special spell being in his mouth gives you.
>>
>>733648760
I have the core and moon badge on every class. You wouldn't know what that's like. Here you were bragging about how you don't get team wiped for a week straight and you've been doing furniture runs to grind and playing with the braindead team compositions this entire time. I'll keep this in mind next time you feel like bragging.
>>
Okay Eagles are kill on sight, these guns are crazy
>>
>>733648710
>stay on the sides
dont do this
you need to keep your cats in line with the moon so that you can hit the hands into him
if the hands fall out of line with the moon you're forced to feed a cat to it, which not all builds can handle
>>
>sharpen doesn't increase monk's damage despite his basic attack being considered an equipment slot

>>
>>733648051
Get in its mouth with high HP cat. The boss doesn't instakill it. Instead it does 5-6 damage a turn. The cat in mouth gets special command to order the hands to launch at the face to deal damage and remove the brace. If no high HP cats, launch the hands manually by turning them to face the head and hit from behind
>>
>>733648926
His basic attack is not at all considered a weapon. Its more accurate to say he can't equip a weapon. Nothing that effects weapons effects his basic attack.
>>
>>733642165
bro your "warrior" caste has 2 str. Even my mage caste has more physical aptitude
>>
>>733648673
If you get a necro with midnight (or whatever the low mana AOE lifesteal buff spell is called) you now basically have your main healer taken care of. They can usually spam it two or three times a turn and your entire team will just keep stealing HP from their basic actions. Also good for proccing "cast 2 / 3 / X" whatever passives since it is cheap as dirt.

Teleport to a corpse is probably the best ability in the game (in every fight that isn't just against one boss with no adds).
>>
>>733649028

>>
>>733648673

>>

>>
>>733649213
Yeah the issue is there are a lot of big enemies that will run into you, do trample, do push-back damage and then attack and blow the corpse up in a single turn. I guess maybe in theory you're supposed to be sustained by leeches you put on someone before you go down but its all just so much set up for a high risk strat that feels bad. Getting downed just doesn't feel good so having it happen on purpose needs to carry a higher, more consistent pay off.

Yeah some of those could work to support the build if there were more reliable ways to down yourself and that ends being the problem, it needs too much set up no matter which passive/active you pick first it will need something else and you aren't guranteed to get it.
>>
>>733633135

yeah from what I've seen this is the biggest problem for many possible builds. I hope an eventual dlc or update will lower a bit the rng to make those build more achievable without making the cat useless otherwise. Even something like choosing one ability could make the difference
>>
>>733646016
>With a low roll being the uzi,
This is actually the best roll if you have the passive that lets you increase the damage of your weapon instead of throwing it because the plus 1 damage is on each hit of the uzi. By turn 5 you're firing it twice per turn for 45 damage each fire.

It depends on what it actually does and how deep into losing you need to go. If it's just 1 less "broken leg with no choices," I would say no. I've had a long win streak but I still got the "4 free candies" event, so it might not actually change much. I think the best deterrent is to simply have all 7s for base stats to prevent getting fucked over by the ones with stat checks, assuming the stat checks are honest. It's pretty easy. If you're solo, your cat will kill all your followers when possessed. It then uses a unique skill called "stop hitting yourself" and Dybbuk just leaves your body.

I think it's pretty lame. The game has ways to avoid getting possessed(after image + mini-me), but you don't even need to bother. It could have at least drained your solo cat's health to 1 as well.

I wish I could refund this dogshit game.
Act 1 will have you thinking that its a normal, fair TRPG where victory is decided by good plays and long term planning.
Act 2 and onwards (which also effects act 1 as they get harder if you progress) the game just becomes a RNG check with metaknowledge as a requirement.
Strategy goes out the window as you face units that just do random stuff that you would not know about until you are fucked over, as you receive items that require specific upgrades/items that you dont even know exist.

Its more like a Darkest Dungeon ripoff than a Into the breach or JA2

Not metaknowledge, just knowledge. That's how roguelikes work. You encounter something for the first time and probably lose. You think about why you lose and next time you take action to avoid that.

If these are your problems with the game, I'm confused on why you bought it. It's not hiding that it's a rougelike. It's definitely not telling you to avoid the breading cats for stats. You really should refund it.

You are not your cats. Getting negative events that make a run harder or positive events that make a run easier is not fundamentally good or bad. When you get good luck, try not to waste it and lose anyway. When you get bad luck, try to overcome it and win anyway.
Whether you succeed or fail, the struggle is where the fun comes from.

That's low and then on top of that some defects end up being useful. So that means less than a 15 percent chance of a baby being useless because of it and cats can always just have more babies if you have a good breeding pair. I have intentionally cultivated a line of Downsyndrome cats and I tried to do the same with my primordial dwarf but he never passed it on before dying sadly. Inbreeding truly matter very little.

Some of those are still beneficial. I have one that just gives my cat trample, I really don't get why its even classified as a defect but it is. Also it's a chance for both negative mutations and ailments, downsyndrome came from inbreeding my cats to begin with.

It's a defect because your control over movement is limited and trample will hurt your allies when walking through. That said, it's definitely the best defect.

>>733651847
It works fine. I feel like people like you just weirdly struggle to see diagonal lines in a game like this. You know you can hit them diagonally right? You can also see turn order so just plan on repositioning and hitting them with two cats who go one after another with no familiars in between if you truly don't have a cat with the ability to hit them twice/hit them diagonally.

You guys should get builds that focus specifically on hitting units twice a turn, by whatever means necessary. Refreshing actions, reusable weapons plus normal attack, etc. The Man on the Moon gets done within 6 rounds if you just have the hands smack his own face constantly.

This is part of why Hunter, who is already one of the best classes in the game, is particularly insane in the moon. That and shit like webm related. Every time I go to the moon, I bring a hunter.

>>

>all of that to be wiped by a single event you had no choice over lmao
not true. As previously explained in >>733652006
It's pretty clear that you can't defend any of your positions and are just seething.

I've wiped twice in this game. The first time was because I came to this general and learned that an NPC only shows up if you die. The second was a solo run where I died to the Rift boss as a jester.
>>
>>733644032
As far as I can tell, you're always better off just spamming more of the summon than bothering to try and upgrade or heal them or whatever. Even with half of the active abilities being worthless it's still a strong class because summon spam is great, and the passive abilities that buff them are also good since they don't take away mana to use on even more summons.
>>

It makes the boss hard to punch itself

Exactly, it's incredibly smooth sailing until the boss until your tower defence starts hitting the hands making it almost impossible to position them.
It's probably still doable with enough effort but I was on my last savescum that run and Steven can't play that boss worth shit.
