What game would you say was the catalyst for shallow nostalgia pandering in the 2010's?
Mega Man 9
>>733632696Championship edition is better than whatever crap is pacman on the left. And megaman 10 is better game than 8 will ever be. Game that is all pretty colors and horrible level design. We told you a million times already, stop posting this shit image.

>>733632696Mega Man 10 had to fit the WiiWare file size limit which is small as hell at 40MB back then. Almost all games on Wiiware were small in scope.
MM8 is by far the easiest classic MM. The game never challenges you, and you just through each level blasting everything in seconds. It's the casual-friendly entry.
>>733632696To me, one of the big ones was OSRSMost of what you have posted are merely references. OSRS is defined by the new game (rs3) being bad and the old being good.It buckbroke wow into releasing classic when blizzard went "you think you want it but you don't." It goes beyond just being a reference and is its whole selling point. Other MMORPGs take design choices out from the game such as official ironman modes. But I would also say that this phenomenon goes beyond the 2010's because "retro" has always been a fascination trend over the years. I would even say it's a part of our nature to look back and see if there's anything to be fond of compared to today. The current nostalgia pandering is remakes.
