Someone explain what he means to a non-mario autist.

They changed the physics in the All Stars remake of SMB1. The specific probably he's referring to is that you now sorta clip into blocks when you jump and smash them, losing any and all momentum you had.
>>
>>733632807
its a trash remake, physics feel all kinds of weird
>>
based kamiya, actually playing games
>>
>>733632807
Another proof that remakes are shit
>>
>>733632807
whys he playing some dusty musty ass old game

touch grass, you terminally online incel
>>
He's right even though I don't mind All Stars otherwise

>game designer criticizes a change in game design
he's right btw, Super Mario All-Stars physics are jank as fuck compared to the original games.
>>
>>733632807
holy shit what year is this?
>>
>>733633930
eat the bugs, you terminal brainrot-driven loser
>>
>>733633086
the only thing that's changed is the brick block momentum thing, the code is literally the same as the original game besides that

You don't bump straight down off the bricks when smashing them in All-Stars, you just sort of hover into them, which often will make you stop and lose all your momentum as you hit the brick next to them with your hitbox from the side.

The re-release flipped a variable. In SMB1, Mario is meant to go down by one pixel when he bumps one block, but in SMAS he goes up by one instead. This messes with the feedback and momentum.

A valid point about an old and forgotten remake made by someone who hasn't been relevant to the industry in years.
>>
>>733634512
Wow, yeah. That's noticeably bad.
>>
>>733634607
Damn that does look terrible
>>
>>733632807
He's right, though. Try playing SMB3 and trying out All Stars' SMB3.
>>
>>733632807
All stars is a demake. The physics are slippery
>>
>>733634780
It feels terrible to play
>>
Why DID they change it?
>>
We actually know why this happens. It's a weird side effect of tile drawing code being slightly edited.

What the fuck is sonic doing there? It's not a nintendo property is it? Why do they have those stupid out of place images in the background anyway.
>>
>>733634607
Wrong, retard, they literally copied and pasted most of the code for the original and Mario's velocity is $FE in both SMB on the NES and SNES, you can check their disassemblies. The NES game just takes a frame longer to remove the brick block tile to replace it with the brick block object (cause you can't move a single tile away from the grid on NES or SNES hardware) and that's what you hit when you go downwards, the brick tile. If you removed the tile removal code in the original, you would also go upward.
>>
>>733634232
This, caused literally by 1-bit typo in the code and rom hackers fixed it 20 years ago

>>
>>733635152
>tile removal code
Tile replacement code, I mean, hurrr. If you just delete the brick tile right away when Mario hits it that would cause the same behavior as in SMAS.
>>
>>733635081
It's an edit
>>
>>733635294
It isn't. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DorcqeCevQ

What a nothing autistic thing to complain about.
>>
>>733635384
We been calling them "hack" for decades you can't just call them "edited games" now
>>
>>733635420

yes, I can

>>
>>733635402
I don't know, commenting in a grievous oversight that completely changes the way a game feels to play seems like a normal thing to comment on, especially when it's a veteran director.
>>
>>733632807
SMB1 is so fucking good, none of the other Mario games capture its magic even if they're "better"
>>
>>733632807
BASED as fuck
Nintendogshit
>>
>>733632807
Unc is just seething because Mario all stars outsold all of his games like 10x times LOL
>>
The bigger issue I have is the sound design in SMB3, especially some of the music, since SMAS basically has a slightly retuned version of SMW's soundfont. The fortress music is a particularly butchered track compared to the original.
>>
>>733632807
I grew up playing Super Mario Bros Flash which was just a flash remake of SMAS, so I'm very nostalgic for that version specifically and much prefer it over the original SMB. That also makes it definitively better. Sorry chuds.
>>
>>733635678
>snoy being this retarded
>>
>>733634512
>>733634738
And all of this because they accidentally inverted the variable that should bounce the player back off of the impact. There's even a basic ass romhack to unfuck it.

I'm so glad romhacking exists. Modding console games is something I should dive into more.
