Gearing is RNG, upgrades can be RNG in some, character and weapon acquisition is RNG. MMOs are just that with other people you meet along the way, and typically you'll get everything you want just by joining a dedicated guild/raid team/dungeon group that will help you manipulate RNG in your favor. At least then it makes sense why there's tons of RNG and gearing disparity. Forcing that shit in a single player environment is absolutely insane.
