the reason why you haven't gotten around to playing those old rpgs you wanna play is because you know in your heart that they're just fucking boring. they're 80 hours long and the combat gets old after 4 enemy encounters. they're all like that and you know it

Nah, man. It's not about the length or the combat. It's the nostalgia and the stories that make those classics worth diving into. Yeah, they can be a grind, but nothing beats the feeling of discovering a hidden side quest or getting wrapped up in a great narrative. Plus, some of those soundtracks are pure gold. Just gotta be in the right mindset, you know?

No, that's (You)r reason. Or rather, the fact that you never got pills for your ADHD.

I grew up with that hit. Sub-100 hours is fucking nothing, I'll swallow that in a single weekend at best. Turn-based combat is literally BASED, and chilling and immersing yourself with a cozy vidya that does not rush you is the ultimate bliss.

tl;dr: After 22 years, OP is still a fagget.

Is Legend of Dragoon worth getting into?
>>

I'm constantly going through old RPGs with something newer or something like a platformer in between occasionally. The hard part is usually figuring out which RPG to actually start when I need to start a new one.

I love the PS1, but I hate "4 niggas in a row turn based rpg" games. I Also hate pokemon and any "adventure game" like Dragons Quest where you get random encounters.

Maybe. I did sell off most of my PS1 collection, so those games aren't a factor anymore. I do still have a ton of games to play, including JRPGs, but right now the problem isn't that I find the JRPGs boring. The problem is that I'm focusing on the most interesting games, or the ones I'm most curious about. This does include some RPGs (I currently have Wizardry 1, Wizardry 7, Bard's Tale, Dungeon Travelers, and Cirnozardry installed) but I'm holding off on any others until I complete some of those games.

>they're all like that and you know it
Wizardry and Cirnozardry are actually pretty difficult and can easily wipe the party if I'm not careful. Bard's Tale is pretty easy, but I'm on the second game and am having fun with the dungeon puzzles. Dungeon Travelers is dreadfully boring but I'm committed to finishing it at some point.

I found it boring. The timed-combo-hits-on-attack (and defend) sounds fun, but it turns out fairly annoying and tedious with longer combo strings. You'll certainly be failing the more difficult combos, so damage can vary wildly.

As for the rest of the game, it's fairly typical JRPG story (especially PS1 JRPG) so if you're interested in that, give it a try. If you're done with running around between towns to save the world from shadowy organizations, then Legend of Dragoon really doesn't do anything different. It's the timed-hits-combo system that people really only talk about. Good luck with the final boss, since it's a 30+ minute fight.

I played those 4 games, anon. On their original hardware, on emulators, and their remasters as well.

If you like the most random encounters ever, sure. Remember the underwater research facility in FF8, where you have to move while the light is dim or you get a guaranteed encounter? LoD has more random encounters than if you moved while it was bright all the time.

>80 hours
Not even close, at that era it was far more common to take 40 hours, obviously I knew what I was doing but I'm sure the last time I played FFIX it took 40-50 doing everything I could

>they're 80 hours long
yeah one of my main problems with jrpgs
like Valkyrie Profile is one of my favourite jrpgs from that era, but I don't have the patience to replay it
and everytime I want to play the classics I never touched (like most of the FF series) I remember the huge time commitment required, while following some naive anime story with a bunch of teenagers saving the world and I immediatly give up on the idea
