>Is supposedly a yakuza>never does anything morally wrong, always ready to help those who ask, never kills anyone and cares for orphansWhy even make him a yakuza at this point
>never does anything morally wrongHe did beat a couple of motherfuckers for owing the Tojo money in 0's and 1's prologues so he technically was a "bad guy".
>>733636475Japan has to MORALFAG with their protags no matter what. Even if they're meant to be assholes or rebels or whatever, they always have to be noble too. Japan fucking sucks at writing.
>>733636515it was self defense, the Peace Finance CEO literally attacked him with a golf club
meat shield bullet guy and all those cars he blew up in 1.
>>733636475he doesn't do anything morally wrong, but boy he does a lot of blatantly illegal stuff.
>never does anything morally wrongI mean, he does on a meta level. Being a PR mascot for a bunch of cutthroat leeches on society is kinda wrong morally.
>>733636587the law isn't moral
>>733636592Sega aren't that bad anon
why does dragon engine kiryu look so fucking weird? majima, saejima, akiyama etc. look more or less fine and like their previous engine iteration.
>>733636515Kiryu was doing some shady shit during the 10 year time gap.>Known and feared for getting money back>The whole "Captured by Snake Flower Triad" ordeal with Kazama saving his ass>Ranked up to Dragon of Dojima during that time despite by Y0 the entirety of that family really wanting him dead.
we men are such moralfags
This is why I can't take this series seriously, everything is supposedly centered around the mafia and crime and it's the most moralfaggy and naive shit ever conceived. What's the point? Whitewashing the actual yakuzas?
>>733637019yakuzas did a lot for japan post war
>>733637019>everything is supposedly centered around the mafia and crime and it's the most moralfaggy and naive shit ever conceivedYeah, I don't like The Godfather, either.
>>733637019>This is why I can't take this series seriouslyThat's both a (You) problem, and (You) kinda missing the point.>everything is supposedly centered around the mafia and crimeNope, it's centered around people that are tangled in a mafia and crime>the most moralfaggy and naive shit ever conceivedFar from it, but that's literally the center.>What's the point? Whitewashing the actual yakuzas? To remind people that you can be the change. You also seem to have missed the fact that rest of Yakuza were indeed several shades of shady.
>>733637053This is the first time i've ever heard that, i'll have to read up on that later.
>>733636475The total amount of time he spends as a bona fide yakuza in the entire series is maybe an hour or so. He's a civilian in 99.99% of his screentime.
>>733637470The problem was callin the series Yakuza.
milennials want le hecking edgy villain go watch deadpool fags
>>733637383https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9EdVbQnvH8The ultimate tl;dr is, that the Jap-Mob was like the secondary law enforcement in the society after the war, and helped keep the Commies away from the country. Cops and Yakuza had a sort of mutual agreement to stay out of each other's way. Some mob bosses' roots go all the way back to some oldass shoguns.
>>733637765What's the worst thing Deadpool ever did? Murder the guy that kidnapped his wife even while Colossus was telling him not to?
>>733637838we wuz kangs
>>733637838I'll give it a watch later, thanks.
>>733636475Woah is that kazuya mishima from smash bros?
>>733637019The entire game series is about Kiryu's idealized vision of the yakuza clashing with reality.
>>733637670That's a localization issue.
>>733636475He's not really a Yakuza. he's more like a dragon.
>>733638321Say that again?
>>733636712I think he looks weirder on the old engine, they made him a lot more handsome in the Dragon Engine games
>>733637019There's a reason why it's called Ryu ga Gotoku (Like a Dragon) in Japan, versus Sega of America's retardation in calling it Yakuza to try to compete with Grand Theft Auto in the west. It was always supposed to be about a man making a legend through ways that define him above the shit he rose from, and as a noble dragon in iconography at that.
>>733639391Kiryu's face got progressively less weird up to Y5, then suddenly he looks like an ape in Y0 and YK1. He looked better in Y6, though for some reason he looked younger than in Y5.
>>733636475>never kills anyoneyou fags can't stop clinging to that mistranslation huh
Remember in 5 when le funny meme man Majima’s ex said he beat the shit out of her after she got an abortion?
>ITT people that don't understand the Yakuza and Kiryu's story
>>733638321REPEAT
>>733640179Kill is kind of the wrong word because he has indirectly killed a bunch of dudes through his actions. He has never truly murdered though.
dame dame guy
>>733636475He beat that guy up at the beginning of yakuza 0. But yeah, he's only in the yakuza because of his obsession with kazama, thats why he left
>>733639391Kiryu looks like a fucking monkey in 3 and 4
>>733636712IW and Kiwami 3 are literally his peak design
>>733641576>indirectly>shoot multiple of people in cars chase sequence in the first game
>>733637838What movie is this?
>>733641803The model itself looks good, maybe I'm just weirded because I was used to the old ones. The other characters look a little more like their older versions.
>beats people up with bikes or slams them headfirst into concrete>never kills anyoneI call bullshit. Plus, I am pretty sure he used a gun a couple of times
>>733641842Technically like super super technically He didnt murder them. He tried stopping them but the shots he fired could be fatal. By murder I mean he literally sets out to take another man's life. Like what he wanted to do against Shibusawa and Iwata. But he never follows through with those attempts.
>>733638015It's Ichiban's series now chud
>>733641803This is honestly the youngest he's ever looked. Even younger than he looked in Y2. Doesn't look a day over 25.
>>733641938He never murders but he directly kills a lot of people, they're just always nameless faceless grunts
>>733641879Sonatine
>>733636712Something about his cheekbones and scowl just looks off in my opinion. In 7 especially his face looks so wide.>>733641803K3 is peak Kiryu design.
>>733641930>>733642012Gameplay has no meaning in story
>>733641926Kiryu's old ps3 models looked uncanny, it was especially evident when they introduced akiyama and saejima who look like actual people and kiryu looked like a cartoon character next to them. Kiryu's design in each subsequent game is slowly refining him to look more like a real human
>>733642168He kills in cutscenes too
>>733642306You're right. Dude on the left really looks like a facescan, which he was of some famous actor at the time, Saejima and Akiyama look like real people and Kiryu is the only one looking like a stylized vidya character.
>>733642121>>733641803>>733636712There's definitely some Final Fantasy-ification fuckery going on.Yakuza Kiwami 1 Kiryu looked distinctly and undeniably Japanese. The Dragon Engine Kiryu has this uncanny, ambiguous pan-Asian look to him.
>>7336421213 Kiryu gives me Sun Wukong vibes
>Y9: ghosts of Kiryu's past show up to destroy him but he's too ill to deal with them so Ichiban steps in just because he's a nice guy>maybe some classic contrived Yakuza style plot "this and that" had ties to Arakawa all along>maybe even Ryo survivesPlayable use of Ichiban?
>>733642386Neither of these look asian
>>733642451Kiwami 1 definitely has those sharp Samurai eyes.
>>733642386PS3 Kiryu was, to an extent, sort of meant to look a bit like a painting come to life. Y0 and K1 attempted to continue this trend while still keeping him more in line with how other characters looked. The Dragon Engine games largely abandoned this principle.
>>733642514They refuse to actually give him the asian monolid like Saejima has
>>733642539That makes sense. I'm glad they ditched it though because it made him look insane.
>>733642435They should kill Ichiban in 9
I liked Ichiban but got so tired of him after 8. And there's no fucking way they're going to get another protagonist just yet. They didn't even retire Kiryu properly (again).
>>73364274110 will be a full universe reboot i think
>>733642539Well also because the 1st version of that face appeared on the samurai spin off. It's like a midpoint between ps2 and ps3 kiryu
>>733642741I haven't played any of the Ichiban games but I hear he gets sidelined in IW for Kiryu. Is there something about him that the writers don't like or find too difficult to write about him?
>>733636515I don't know which game started it, but at some point they kept making Kiryu more and more "softer."In the original version of Yakuza 1 during one of the substories, the player had the option of ignoring a women who was being harassed she's acting, but at that point, both Kiryu and the player don't know that. In Kiwami 1, there is no option; he always helps her.>>733642306I always find it funny how PS2 Kiryu looked more like a real person than PS3 Kiryu.>>733642358That is specifically the edited version of Hiroki Narimiya's face that was used in Yakuza 4 Remastered.
>>733643320Maybe it's the hair but PS2 Kiryu looks totally like some american rocker dude from the 2000s and definitely not 100% japanese. He even reminds me of that second singer guy from Linkin Park. I think he was part japanese or something.
Does Kuroda do mocap for Kiryu?
>>733637019At the very least, it does a good job showing how garbage the organization is and all the bad shit they do. Doesn't change the fact that every single protagonist except for Akiyama and Haruka are yakuza scum that should be rotting in jail for life.
>>733643684Advanced Daidoji Rubber Bullets, son
>>733643097At his core, he's too much of an outlier. Ichiban was too cut off from the underworld for twenty long years. Although he made a bit of a name for himself in Y7, he's still not a particularly important guy. He doesn't really symbolize anything, having been out of the game for too long and failing to make any substantial impact on the yakuza world (the dissolution of the Tojo and Omi would have happened with or without him). With Kiryu, it's not hard to come up with a reason why someone would target him or have a grudge against him. There are a thousand reasons someone would want his involvement in something. With Ichiban, it's a bit harder. He's someone who might be useful to have around, but lacks sufficient weight to be a real lynchpin in anything. He's the kind of hero who gets involved in things by accident, who no one really sees coming, and somehow manages to save the day. More to the point, it's pretty much impossible to top or even match the emotional payoff that happened with Masato. Even if he'd been the one to confront Ebina, he didn't really know Ebina well enough for them to have a meaningful conversation. With Kiryu, their lack of personal ties didn't matter; what was important is what Kiryu and Ebina symbolized, with Kiryu embodying the very "ideals" that Ebina despised, and Ebina being the embodiment of all of Kiryu's mistakes. Kiryu bears a responsibility for Ebina's rage, whereas Ichiban doesn't owe him anything. Even if you changed Ichiban's character so that he gave a shit about blood relations, he wouldn't be able to feel as strongly towards Ebina as he did Masato, because Masato was someone that Ichiban personally knew for years while Ebina was a stranger. The weakness of Ichiban's character is that there's nothing really tying him down anymore, which means that it's hard to create many emotional payoffs for him. Everyone he loves is either dead or in regular contact with him. Everyone who might hate him is either dead or in jail.
>>733636851We must be better
All I want is a Yakuza game where they don't treat it with kid gloves. Saejima being a ruthless killer of 25 men was cool, made him an instant threat and him being the tiger to Kiryu's dragon was kino. You can't have the player play as a violent killer yakuza though so they did the rubber bullet stuff. Gang of Dragon is what we need.
Kiryu doesn't have a hard no-kill rule like Batman. What Kiryu does is never kill in cold blood.
