Ii think everyone's pretty much given up on VR. I dont care if it was a gimmick or not, inflation and generally fuckedupness in the world and tech in particular completely tanked any chance of it catching on years ago.
If volvo likes their tech gimmicks so much, they should take advantage of the fact everyone has a 2015 rig (that costs more now than it did when it was new) and couldn't afford to upgrade if they sold their kidneys, and make the most aggressively optimized game ever. Make HL3 run on the same hardware that ran HL2 while looking current gen. If anyone can do it, it's valve.

I played diffusion on release and it was phenomenal. I'm also playing through raising the bar redux and it's pretty alright so far. The antlion king nihilanth fight knockoff was jank as shit but i liked it
Also, not a mod but i check the gmod workshop weekly and i found a cool map called Osen 4ever. It's got a bunch of mid-2000's stuff in it but in the "actually was there" way and not the usual tranny "wooooo so liminal! remember emos? Rawr xd" kinda way

I think visually its a matter of taste. Black Mesa has a much more cinematic high detail style. While Half Life goes for a more grounded visual style and tone with more cartoony characters and weapons. You'll notice that HL2 doesn't do film grain, lens flare, or chromatic aberration despite having all the same graphical technologies as Black Mesa.

The visual clutter thing is real. On surface tension especially I got fucking lost all the time. Doesn't help that source's antialiasing sucks and the textures are too high res so everything looks grainy as shit

For me it was pressing E on every bright red blikenlight and big red valve because in every Valve game that means intended route of progression, except nothing happened because those were just decoration.
