If you use a non-apple computer, odds are you are using a Microsoft OS along with Microsoft office. Xbox is just a generally small portion of what Microsoft is in the non-gaming PC side of things.

It's deeply entrenched across multiple governments and large corporations. If it gets too bad it can be killed though. Adobe got cut in my organisation. If I was an aspiring competitor I would make a more user friendly version of Excel, that program more than Word what glues administrators to office.

Microsoft can subsist indefinitely on the fact that nearly every business uses their OS. Every office, every supermarket, most schools. Some use Macs, but the majority use Windows. It doesn't matter if PC gamers are abandoning Windows, literally every school I've ever been to, every job I've ever worked and will ever work, every store I've ever visited has used Windows in some capacity.
