PSO2 had the most lore about them, stating that CASTs are specifically humans who went thru a process that placed their human bodies into a robot casing, specifically to keep them alive when their photon receptors were threatening to overwhelm their bodies. So those CASTs are more people in grafted mech suits or something like cyberpunk dermal plating. But CASTs in the original Phantasy Star games stayed alive and the same for hundreds of years at a time, and simply had no ability to use techniques, implying that they were purely inorganic computers in robot bodies, with no original human person inside.

In PSO1 there are no downsides to being a CAST except you cannot use techniques. You can still utilize photons through weapons, items, and more. You cannot be poisioned or paralyzed. You are superior to humans and elves in every way except for MST.In PSU and beyond being a CAST has all sorts of downsides from weaker photon manipulation to being easily manipulatable and losing your snake resistances so now you die from poison.

I'm not sure if there are those specific legs in the game, and I don't recall a pointy chestplate with human-ish dimensions like the upper left. Then again, I haven't played in a year or so, so maybe they added some Cast parts rather than just anime references and housing updates.I'll remind you that most dressup options come from the scratch tickets (lotto system) and so the parts might be in the game, just not available to you.
