Call me crazy but it was E33's fault.
A lot of people watched the game awards to see if E33 will win all of the awards and when they did started winning all those awards, people went nuts thinking gaming (or single player gaming) is back. Then at the very end of the awards, you see a god damn live service game yet again.
All those people who viewed the Highguard trailer isn't shooter fan, multiplayer fans or competitive fan. It was single player/casual fans. And Geoff gave them a pinata for them to endlessly beat up.

I don't fucking get it. We already have had a perfect template for online multiplayer games pre-release strategy. It was fucking Tribes Ascend, it's like a rosetta stone for what to do in order to build a community leading up to release. Hi Rez fucked it up after launch.

But the preamble to Ascend is undoubtedly the single BEST example of doing everything right leading to release. Have playtests, have open betas, get the community involved, have pre-release tournaments, start building an actual reputation so that when the game is released it actually has fans.

These fuckwits spent like 5 years on this game, and built NO community before launch, they were going to shadow drop it as a "ITS UP GO PLAY IT RIGHT NOW!" thing. With ZERO fucking leg work done to actually build a community of any kind. 5 years and they didn't do ANYTHING to build this shit up.

I'm not artist but I understand that longer legs on female characters is just standard when going for "heroic" proportions. Also headsize being used as the metric for general proportions, bayonetta going one head smaller for extra-heroic and mass effect andromeda going one head bigger for..some retarded reason that I never understood. I'm conflicted about this game. The CTF phase of the game is so unique and entertaining that it makes me wonder why they barely bothered to put any mechanics in the game to bolster it. Most of the effort put into this game is around the looting, the gunplay, and the raids which are all worse than the 1 flag ctf phase.
The marketing was also such a cope. They say they wanted to shadow drop it and blame vga for the bad press, but you took the faustian bargain. The fact that no one suggested getting a marketing team to run ahead of the bad press and actually show off what the game was like just shows how unserious the creators were. No one knew what the game or genre even was until it dropped and then the devs cried that it was just impossible to advertise after the fact.
The setting is boring and bland. Fantasy, multiracialism but everyone is human, magic but all the guns are just guns, bases are just bog standard fantasy that barely relate to their elemental character (hells mouth to slade for example).
I think the biggest problem was obvious and every player pointed it out. There is too much god damn waiting and inaction in this game. 1 minute base prep, 2 minutes of looting, 1 minute until the shield breaker spawns. You are doing basically nothing for 4 minutes straight at match start. Its even worse during the raids though (which also take 1/2 minute to start) because if you get killed you have to wait 20 fucking seconds to get back into the action only to most likely die in a 1v2/3 and wait another 20 seconds. There is just too much waiting and nothing happening in this game. God forbid you die during looting phase and you do nothing for 20 seconds during the do nothing phase and then ride your horse through nothing to do nothing until the shield breaker spawns. The doing nothing was what really killed the game, not the performance issues or dei or whatever. Its something no amount of updates or dripfeed can fix.

The matches would be way more fun if they just started with the CTF phase immediately instead of the boring 2 min segments where basically nothing happens. Just spawn the objective as soon as the match starts and let players go straight for it and maybe try for loot along the way. Make obtaining gear much more of a risk reward scenario ehere you have to choose between getting the objective or powerups instead of having time for both. It still needs more players in match too. 8vs8 would be about right,teams of 5 still feel too small

Unsure why the devs made a large map and then filled it with absolutely nothing, clearly the game was not meant to be a 3v3 by the end project, you can't justify having large maps if it doesn't mean large scale battles, only way you get those is by having more players fight each other in a match.
Game could have done with some fantasy monsters roaming the map and leveling your heroes from monster kills which would unlock additional perks for more customization throughout the match.
I think they had no idea what they were doing and just decided to copy things from other games, mash it into an all-in-one, but didn't make it any better than what they copied nor did they try to take it and make it their own unique
The only thing I enjoyed about this game was the base raiding/defending but the ending of the match should have included a bit of capture the flag by taking the enemies anchor stone back to your base after destroying the A/B generators for a little bit more variety
Overall a terrible launch and terrible attempt at releasing something nobody asked for

Looting was terrible, it took less time and RNG to slap crystals with a hammer and buy the item you wanted from the trader than to run around opening shit you weren't going to take
There are only 3 tiers of looting and they had to include improved versions of weapons at POI in order for there to be more engagement at those locations but the improved versions of the weapons were so insignificant that I noticed most players just ignored it
