what makes PS2 ace combat games the best of the series?
>>
>comes with Ace Combat 8 on PC
I'm so fucking hyped, bros.
>>
>>733659624
where did you hear that?
>>
air combat is the only good one

I didn't hear about it, it's a literal Steamdb entry
>>
>>733659650
it was datamined on steam
>>
0 was ok but 5 was such a wokeslop
>>
>>733659820
Why 0 instead of 6? 6 actually needs a re-release since you still can't emulate it without bugs that break the experience.
>>
>>733659519
ps2 simply has that effect
>>
>>733662184
6 was already re-released.
>>
>PS2
But Electrosphere was better than the trilogy combined.
>>
>>733662297
Not on PC. It was just a backwards compatibility "release" on the Xbox One X or whatever the fuck it's called. Bandai Namco did that anniversary trailer recently to celebrate it.
If it turns out that this 0 "release" is using PCSX2 under the hood, then it's a waste of time too.
>>
>>733659519
Circumstances from their time that cannot be replicated.
Idk. I'm of the opinion that 7 actually has the best gameplay in the series. Yes, you can eventually cheese it with endgame planes and parts, but I start a new save file whenever I replay the game and it's well balanced throughout. Also, cheesing encounters with post stall maneuvers and planes that handle like UFOs is fun.
4, 5, and 0 have simpler gameplay and systems at play, but it's that synthesis of game, music, art, and story: all the parts of the PS2 games come together to create a transcendent experience.

I've been trying to think of anything else worth writing, and I think it's worth it to notice that the PS2 games, especially 4 and Zero (4 is my personal favorite), have a certain melancholy.
6 is way too positive and pollyanna feeling despite it being a game about war (frankly almost a Lynchian "Blue Velvet" positivity, starting with the white picket fence peak Americana neighborhood), and 7 is so fast paced and has so much going on in the story that it doesn't often slow down and feel the weight of things (this is, in a way, also an asset to 7).
4 undercuts it's Mobius 1 hero narrative with a cold sense of reality.

Anon...
>>
>>733663452
Don't do this to me. Don't take my hope with your vague implications.
>>
>>733664156
Well, it's on you if you assume I mean to take your hope.

It's really not anon's fault when all you do is post cryptic shit like "Anon...." without clarifying what the fuck it is you actually meant
>>
>>733662184
Because 8's just two 0's stacked. And will likely pick up on threads from 0.

>The glass is half empty
>>
>>733659519
>tfw you finally play 5 and 0 back to back
I had played them before but it was way more kino that time. 5 is the peak to 0's iceberg story-wise and otherwise too.
>>
>>733664412
Then what the fuck else did you mean?
>>733664835
Now an even bigger schizo has entered the thread. Special appearance of numerology.
>>
>>733662184
Because AC6 was added as bonus to AC7 deluxe edition on Xbox. While PS4 got AC5.

Most likely every platform will get AC0 as bonus.
>>
>>733659624
I hope we get an international AC3 JP release someday.

I first played Zero during puberty and something about it fried white boy brain. Ace battles and set pieces literally locked it in right on the moment that it was my favorite game from that moment on going forward. Mission 10 and hearing The Round Table OST had me feel shit I'd have never felt before at that time. These games are cursed, but in a good way.
>>
>>733667753
Me too if only so most people can play it and realize it's overhyped horseshit.
>>
what a weird post

there are two people in the world who say "buddy," canadians and people who played AC0 in their teens

The last time I got excited about anything to do with video games was when Ace Combat 8 was announced. The last time I got excited for anything video game related before that was when Ace Combat 7 was announced.

Just started Belkan War and holy shit they upped the quality of the environmental effects again. On the emulator it looks like PS3 game.
>>
>>733659519
The sovl meme is just appropriate for the gen 6 games. They just hit hard and the later games never capture the sensation of frisson, particularly the final missions. But also, there are only so many times that you can repeat le ebin star wars death star mission as the finale or pre-finale.
>>
Never played 0 well I started it but I was like "eh" a couple missions in. I had just finished 4 and 5 though. Man 5 was soooo good
Im playing 7 now though, quite fun
>>
>>733677292
It's nice to see somebody that likes 5 the best.
I feel it gets a little underrated out of the trilogy on average.
>>
This is the Round Table. Dead men's words hold no meaning.
>>
>>733669685
AC2 is great, dunno what you are on about. It's better than the AC(uck)3.

How do we feel about Cipher canonically beating Mobius?
>>
>>733659519
They were easily emulated for decades until 360 emulation got better, so the fandom gestalt decided to label them the holy trinity simply because anyone could play them, before 7 came out.
6 is absolutely massively better than 5 though, by leaps and bounds. You can't even slight 6's story because of how bad 5's is.
>>
>>733678725
I find it funny how in the final interview or whatever he tries to put himself in Cipher/Pixy's box. The dude is shameless and that's why nobody really likes him.
>>
reminder you should play AC3 (japanese version) and mind blown by how ahead of its time it was. also cool futuristic plane designs
>>
>>733678816
Cipher and Pixy killed all the good pilots in strangereal and by the time AC4 takes place(6 years after AC0) they didn't train their replacements so Mobius only fought jobbers(Yellow 13) and wannabes(Yellow Squadron).

People hate ACJA but I have a soft spot for it because of the song.
>>
>>733679136
People glaze AC3 but the missions are quantity over quality. Also the PS1 drawing distance fucking sucks you have to fly in close to see your targets. Aesthetically though it's really cool, I love the menus and soundtrack.
>>
>>733679683
Go Shiina doesn't hold up to Keiki Kobayashi, his songs are just weird. This one belongs in a Pixar movie.

I liked the visuals
I liked the planes
I liked the UI
I liked the story and tweests
I liked the characters (even if they were kinda basic)
I liked the stupid YES NO dialogue
I liked all missions except dogfighting
I liked the final mission
I liked that mission going through a long-ass underground tunnel dodging shit
I liked that mission flying low to avoid radar and anti missiles
I liked trying out different planes for different missions
I liked learning to not be too greedy when hitting ground targets so I won't instadie to the ground
I liked the audio design

I did NOT like holding one direction for many seconds until the enemy is finally in my sight, only for him to get out of sight in like 1~2 seconds

I blame Rogue Squadron 1/2/3 for being spoiled with this genre, the one time I played 1v1 with a friend it felt just like AC5 dogfighting, we'd keep turning a ton and barely even see each other

>>

Why are standoff cucks like this?
>>
>>733680753
christmas exists in strangereal and we have ACX to thank for it
>>
I wonder how much that Top Gun license was. I bet 7 gets delisted in three years tops.
>>
>>733680795
If Arthurian legends exist so can Santa.
>>
>>733680961
They didn't pay for it. The movie studio came to them to do a promo.
