Pistol is the most useful in fighting zombies for obvious reasons but you get barely any ammo. You can do headshots that cost more AP but do more damage or aim at the legs for a chance to immobilize zombie for a turn. Get pretty heat up when you stumble on a cluster of zombies.

In Withering Rooms, each area still had value after you died since important items or gear could still be found there. I like the improvements to combat but it still feels pretty janky.

While I grew out of Platinum-styled action games, this game wears that aesthetic with such sincere conviction I couldn't help but be totally captivated. Gameplay wise while it is mostly another Platinum clone, it does enough interesting things under the hood that's genuinely different from its contemporaries. It's also just pure authentic fun from start to finish and isn't afraid to show its resolve and joy at the same time, despite apparently being a one-man game.Definitely my personal favorite in this Next Fest so far. Not without its flaws (i.e. pretty unoptimized) but I think they're more than tolerable when you consider all the strengths. I think I'd be hard pressed to find 5 demos better than this in the Next Fest.

So far I've only played Cop Bastard. Very soulful but I'm not sure if it'd hold my attention for very long as a full game, the level design is incredibly simple. Props to the dev though, I played the demo a year ago and he's improved the game a ton since then.

'Combat' is odd, not much feedback when you shoot a thing, and the enemies are pretty mindless so far, they're pretty tanky, and they only move in a straight line towards the village, you just hose their weak points down with bullets and that's it for most of them. The numbers they spawn in are also pretty difficult to manage solo, I think it's balanced around co-op, there is a lobby finder but its completely empty of players, maybe give it a day or two for more people to populate it. Music's not bad.

Stealth rarely does it for me, but the charming writing aesthetic and metroidvania setup works well. Can also book your ass out of danger when shit goes bad with even just the double jump upgrade. I had fun but I feel like the concept of using a drawing tablet to cast spells was wasted on a VS clone. WASD movement plus the drawing tablet to cast spells felt really nice. Mana management made it a bit deeper than just spam spells lmao, but I'm not convinced there's a whole lot of depth that remains in the gameplay past the demo. Just ends up being VS yet again. I'd like to see this spell casting concept done in a more fleshed out in a larger not-rogue-lite single player game
