People were going to build their digital libraries and once they start investing on one platform, it'll be hard to switch to another. MS was too arrogant by imposing all of those requirements upfront rather than naturally introducing them slowly. Because of this, xbox committed all theor resources into game pass and making consoles secondary.

Between the water cooler/sports talk, always online, forced Kinect, "we have an offline device, it's called Xbox 360", plans to kill used games entirely, and launching at $100 more than a product that would still look better with the prices reversed, and yeah. Microsoft really, REALLY needed to not fuck that one up.

>>733671269No, it was definitely their hard shift into Kinect-oriented software. Microsoft got cocky after leaving Sony in the dust for 4 years and shifted gears to go after Nintendo for some 3 years. It's not that it didn't work, Kinect sold gangbusters. But it did leave their reputation amongst the hardcore in shambles when it was time to gear up for the next gen, and after PS3 Sony had plenty of reasons to get their shit together. Microsoft got complacent and it lost them everything.

But they never developed anything beyond that, no new franchises or ideas. 2 generations later and Xbox still ain't got shit but Forza and Halo.
