Why do people hate Doom 2 so much in comparison to Doom 1?
>>
not sure hate is the right word, people just acknowledge that the level design is a step back and usually agree that the new enemies and SSG are good additions
>>
traversing those levels suck dick that's why, way too big and confusing, even the doom 1 e4 levels are tolerable and more fun
>>
Maps are not as good. The new roster can't save them because it's not utilized well enough.
Mu personal gripe is SSG is way too good and most of the user wads overuse it way too fucking much and I'm tired of it being the only workhorse in every first wad.

Sandy Peterson maps.
>>
>>733674393
This, just awful.

Redundancy 2
>>
Crazy how they made the craziest tech in gaming and didn't give a shit about the campaign besides doom e1
>>
worse soundtrack & worse maps

They don't, unless you're specifically talking about the city maps which were mostly ass. Otherwise everyone loves Doom 2
>>
city levels make me want to ssg myself

SSG

tbf they dumped almost everything on him. also his quake maps were better. i'm kind of a simp for the fat mormon boomer ngl. i wish i was a mormon
>>
>>733673913
You already know the answer. It's the level design. It's not terrible, but overall it's worse than Doom 1.
>>
>>733675389
>also his quake maps were better
But that said, Episode 4 was the worst episode.
>>
>>733673913
Ultimate Doom maps are just that good, especially episode 2's.
Doom 2's maps feel pretty sloppy in comparison. Sandy has a really bad habit of just slapping down a square of enemies and calling it a day.
>>
>>733673913
Sure it has new stuff but it's not as good as the Doom 1 maps.
>>
>>733675484
>especially episode 2's
>the worst episode
Definitive ranking is 1>4>3>2. Can't be argued.

I really need some new weapon and/or enemy mods, but so much of what I find takes things too far. I don't want slides, motion blur, excessive screen shake, or so many particles I can't see what I'm shooting at. Someone give me some recommendations

fuck you, homo. E4M2 still makes you shit your pants?

People don't hate Doom 2.
It introduced very welcome additions to the monster roster and also added the legendary super shotgun.
What people don't like about it is the rushed maps Sandy Peterson had to make. The engine also wasn't very good at making city themed levels and it wasn't until Duke 3D came out that we actually had levels that looked like a semi real city.

Funnily enough, I think the low quality maps of Doom 2 set the gears in motion for the "I can do better" type of people in the community and that's one of the reasons why we have a mind boggling amount of WADs to try out and play to this day.

>>733676150
Actual melty.
>>
>>733673913
I played Doom 2 first. There are some iconic levels like Entryway, Underhalls, Tricks & Traps, Dead Simple, Circle of Death, Icon of Sin but there's also no cohesion between the levels and some of them like The Pit are just fucking ass.
Doom 1 very clearly mapped out where you where, why you were there and what you were doing.there
To Doom 2's credit, it introduced badass new enemies, the SSG is about as iconic as the BFG, but on the whole it's a worse game
I'm still assmad Warner Bros didn't call Dune Part 2 "Dune II".

There was already a total conversion for Doom when Doom 2 released. I wouldn't be surprised if that attitude helped, but some people were already going nuts with the engine

>>733673913
they are retarded, simple as.
>>
>>733676173
>The engine also wasn't very good at making city themed levels
they could make perfectly good city levels with the engine if they actually tried
>>
>>733674393
he made more doom 1 levels than doom 2 levels
>>
they hate fun gimmick maps and love boring techbases
>>
>>733675389

He's the one that filled a later level with spawns.
>>
>>733675484
>especially episode 2's.
Fucking what?
>>
why is the doom community so filled with spastics
>>
Not enough john romero
>>
>>733673913
I don't. A lot of the levels are really lazy but the additions to the enemy roster make it a much more interesting game than Doom 1.
And now that it has infinity wads, it's clearly not even worth considering Doom 1 anymore.
>>
>>733673913
Thats just a false narrative
>>
>>733674056
The super shotgun is shit. It's horribly imbalanced while the new enemies are terrible.
>>
>>733674056
>People just acknowledge that the level design is a step back
I'm convinced anybody that claimed that just played Knee Deep in the dead.
>>
>>733675696
nah E2 > E3
the only good map in E3 is DiS and that's just for the rabbit cutscene
>>
>>733680792
They told him he had to use the new monster in every level
>>
>>733685121
That doesn't mean the annoying suicide bombers needed to be hiding in every corner.
>>
>>733673913
The maps are too big and are designed like doo doo
Super Shotgun is the only good thing in the game
>>
Hows project warlock 2? I never finished 1 cause i ran out of lives and i think having limited lives in this kind of game is kinda gay
>>
>>733684958
It correctly uses up a fuckload of shells. The basic shotgun can be more efficient at the same job. Maybe someone could get through Doom 2 with a ton of ammo, but that was meant to be scarce.
>>
Doom 64 is the best one btw
>>
>>733673913
Nobody really hates Doom II it just has more rough areas than the first game had. Most of the later levels just fucking suck to traverse.
>>
>>733675893
