I thought there was another song with lyrics set to the underground music too but maybe I imagined it.
I don't remember my Luigi being that stretchy.
I watched these on YTV in the 90s. They had all the songs since it was based on the video tape masters. If you didn't know, the original broadcast for whatever reason had a bunch of songs from the 60s and 70s. On the DVDs they had to remove all the songs since they didn't have the license for them.
I swear I remember an episode of this show where Mario becomes a bond style secret agent and it has a whole segment that actually plays the Secret Agent Man song.
>>733694418>the original broadcast for whatever reason had a bunch of songs from the 60s and 70sHoly shit so I am not being schizo and that was real. I lived in South Korea back in the early 90's and my grandmother in the US used to send me Saturday morning cartoons she recorded on VHS every so often. This show was part of it.

>>733694495Oh the SM Wiki has a list of them and the audio clips. I have no idea why they did it, other than maybe it was made by Boomers. So they see a scene with a Magic Carpet, so they play the song. Turns out they were all covers? It might have been cheaper to license them out? https://www.mariowiki.com/List_of_The_Super_Mario_Bros._Super_Show!_songs#.22Magic_Carpet_Ride.22>>733694720White Wedding. >>733695437>I think this is the actual cover used. I do remember it sounding different to the actual original song. I am just happy that this is an actual thing that happened instead of my misremembering my childhood.Correct, because they're edited out of the DVDs, and most clips online come from the DVDs. The Drew Carrey Show and Daria have a similar issue where they had to remove all the licensed songs out. The audio clips from the SMWiki sound like they're from VHS tapes. For my memories, it was either Global TV or YTV. I can't remember which. I often conflate Global's broadcasts for YTV. I was Canadian so we never got anything new, but instead re-runs years after they broadcast in America. So they'd say "Wait for Friday for Zelda!" And I fucking did adn nothing. Just another Mario episode. Then randomly we'd get Zelda episodes. Yeah they never broadcasted them in order.

>>733695928My memory is hazy. I do remember the SMB Super Show and it got a lot of re-runs welll into my teenage years. Then I remember the OTHER SM cartoon show which I think is SMB3? But the episodes aren't as vivid as the super show. But then one day I caught a Super Mario World episode and it was so weird and shitty and I never caught it ever again. I did note that it was years after SMW was released. So I don' think so? I do remember the SMB3 show having a totally different into and story and setting.

No idea what channel in Kansas they were recorded from.
ebin funny italian rotates guy
>>733696151It isn't like there was proper Mario lore or world building back then. Pretty sure that the only reason people learned a lot of the official enemy names was due to stuff like the end credits for SMW.
>>733696106https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goHwtY2DHMwI remember that intro. Is the SMB3 show the one with the koopa kids? I think SMB Super Show is an amalgamation mostly taking from SMB2. That's why there's shy guys, magic carpets, etc. SMB3 show is just focused on SMB3 iconography. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctvW3eBcSqgSMW season: Dumb cavemen for some reason? I only caught a single episode and didn't like it. I really liked the SMB Super Show though. But as a kid I thought the live action segments were lame. now I think they're cute.I was at the mercy of whatever YTV and Global or Fox had to air at the time. I never saw the Captain N show and it never aired, not even on repeats.
>>733696151Below is an interview of the writer of the scripts online and as expected he was given no introduction and very little time to write, so he just did what amused him and wrote a bunch of parodies. He wrote for SMB3 and SMW show too.https://talesfromthecollection.com/phil-harnage-interview/
Remember that because of this cartoon everyone called Bowser King Koopa for years.
>>733695928I do remember that. I'm old
>>733696415i used to rent an SMB3 VHS all the time as a kid and everytime i watched it i'd be pissed because the shit from one of those episodes was nothing like world 4why does the fire flower make them giant and karate experts
>>733696151It's just kid-slop. They didn't expect kids to recognize On her Majesty's Secret Service, but instead they knew it and it's easy to write. This is a very American centric way of producing things. Why didn't Nintendo produce their own damn shows? They could have gotten proper Japanese animation studios and could have written good stories.
>>733696530Hands-off approach worked for Sonic the Hedgehog.SNOOPING AS USUAL I SEE!
>>733696271We never got Captain N, but I was big into Gummi Bears and TMNT. The funniest shit is that Gummi Bears is a tie-in show to a product I never cared for BUT since it was a giant ad they had a very nice animation budget and it looked nice.
>>733696415TAoSMB3 was completely based on Mario 3 and the Koopalings were top billing along with the original five, with every episode taking place in one of the eight worlds and the real world. Which is hilarious because in the Super Show two episodes were about the Bros trying to find a way home, finding it, but it's either a one-way one-time thing or they had to destroy it to keep Bowser from using it, but in the Mario 3 cartoon there's warps to the real world all over the place everyone can freely use, hell one episode was about Peach saving the real world from Bowser and the Koopaling. The Mario World cartoon had a city of cave people because it's set in Dinosaur Land.
>>733696453>Remember that because of this cartoon everyone called Bowser King Koopa for years. These shows were made with agreements by a bunch of executives, then handed down to middle-managers who had to actually make the show. They were given literally NOTHING from Japan or even their own upper management as to what the hell the story or background to these games were. They just flippedt hrough the official manuals, and in the early SMB localizations, Bowser was called King Koopa. So that's what they went with. It was only later that they changed the American localization to Bowser, and not until Mario 64 that we got "Peach" unstead of Princess Toadstool.
>>733696453The Japanese call him that to this day. Bowser is an American invention
>>733696530>Why didn't Nintendo produce their own damn shows? They did.
>>733695371We didn't have these pin things here so I had no idea what he was using, I tried to figure it out but figured it was a weird picture frame of some kind.
>>733696701In Japan his full name is The Great Demon King Koopa. Add his American name and it's The Great Demon King Bowser Koopa.>>733696663In the Mario 3 cartoon Mario does call King Koopa Bowser twice.>"You're not taking over any land, you Bowser Koopa!">"Princess, how can you be so nice to Bowser Koopa?!"
>>733695490Really? I found it funny
>>733696151It's for the parents watching.
>>733696530>Why didn't Nintendo produce their own damn shows? They could have gotten proper Japanese animation studios and could have written good stories. All this happened well before glorious Nippon was exporting animation of their own, or even really truly building up animation as an industry. Even in the late 90's they still weren't even really looking at that and it was primarily US companies buying rights to Jap animes to repackage for the US market. It could be argued that it was still largely the same in the 2000's but with more of a focus on keeping the shows as is for distribution unless they were intended for airing in certain timeslots. Which is what got us the infamous 4kids shit. All this aside games usually didn't just get anime made except where the parent company was intending them as some sort of advertisement. In which case it was usually done on a serious budget and with mixed results. Stuff like the Street Fighter 2 animated movie in terms of quality was a rarity.
>>733696591whenever i watch that entire scene, I cannot hear PINGAS
>>733696453I didnt even know the Koopalings had different names in the games. I always called them by their show names as a kid.
>>733696714>>733696530Isn't the american stuff pretty much why nintendo refused to license their IPs to other companies ever for like 30 years
>>733696971That is correct. They did a slew of early licsensens and then never made any new contracts. The next shows they did were Japanese: The F-Zero show and the Kirby Show. Both pretty accurate to the setting. Why they have never done anymore Mario tv shows is beyond me. It'd have been a big hit in the early 00s. Oh yeah, fucking Kirby needs a show?I think they made the F-Zero and Kirby shows because they wanted to push those series, but F-Zero was a big dud.
>>733696593Pretty much every cartoon from that era, and even later, was made with the sole intention of selling toys. It is part of why even R-rated movies used to get PG-rated cartoons so they could sell action figures to the kids. The whole cartoon industry was focused around selling toys though. Even once they started bringing in anime the whole point was building up blocks of TV time they knew a certain age group would be glued to so they could sell the ad time for that block to toy companies.
>>733697076F zero's anime was not accurate to the setting at all what are you on?Villain Octoman and Werewolf Leon still send me rolling to think about.
>>733696932What's really funny is some of their personality traits and cartoon lore were incorporated into later games, like Larry Koopa enjoying sports and his boss fight in Superstar Saga being a tennis match.
>>733696971I don't think it was entirely the fault of the TV shows but a general conflict in licensing and merchandising rights the flowed on from it. Including arcade shit as well I am pretty sure. That whole era was a massive clusterfuck for that sort of thing that had long running repercussions for anyone licensing stuff from overseas.
>>733697076The kirby anime was kino, even if they did invent a bunch of entirely new stuff that wasn't in the games. Weird though how anime dedede and game dedede are nothing alike.
>>733696106Mario 3 was part of the Captain N show. The second season? of Captain N got changed from a 1/2 hour episode of Captain N to an hour where the main Captain N feature would be bracketed by 2 Super Mario 3 shorts.Mario 3 gave us the infamous Milli Vanilli episode where Princess Toadstool and "Kootie Pie" (for some reason Wendy O Koopa was renamed) were feuding over the hunky Milli Vanilli guys lol.The next season shortened the whole show to 30 minutes, which meant Captain N turned into short form, less serious episodes, accompanied by Mario World. I stopped watching at that point.
>>733697167McCloud's episode was the best though
>>733696663I always thought her full name is Princess Peach Toadstool like Peach is her first name and Toadstool is her last
>>733697487She was always just Peach in Japan. American changed it to Toadstool because hurr Mushroom Kingdom. Nintendo later combined the names the same way they did Bowser so she became Princess Peach Toadstool and him King Bowser Koopa.
>>733696932they didn't have official names at the time, so the names they got in the super show were invented FOR the super show.
>>733697553they haven't called Peach toadstool in any form since the fucking N64 days
>>733697487That's the shift they went for with Super Mario 64, realigning it to call her Peach in the west, by signing the letter with it specifically, after "Princess Toadstool", from then on they just called her Princess Peach.
>>733697487I thought her name was princess frogshit
