There's no varied opinions. There's normal people who know ALTTP to SS is the only Zelda run that matters, then contrarian retards who think Zelda1(lol) is a good game, or that BOTW/TOTK aren't glorified ubishit collectathon games that introduced some of the shittiest mechanics into gaming since previous industry ruining garbage came out(skyrim, dark souls)

Here's my hot theory: I genuinely think that all of the Zeldas are stretched between S+ and B+ tiers, so arguing from a position that is relative to the Zelda series, you can have wide gaps in what people like and what they think of the series, but when you start talking about relative to other games outside of Zelda, I think that gap would largely disappear outside from the vocal minorities that are convinced that 1 specific game (Zelda 2, Skyward Sword, BotW, or the contrarian pick of OoT) killed their mother and their dog in their sleep. But even when you exclude that person's autistic crusade, they'll lump the rest of the series into a solid very high-tier grouping that is hard to beat cause few games even get close to the quality that Zelda offers.

There are only a handful of valid opinions in Zelda
>OoT, MM or TP being the best one
>BotW is not even a Zelda game.
>Games from different brands being more Zelda than BotW, actually, like Darksiders and Okami

The main takeaway for me is always that gamers don't really understand what Zelda is, and Zelda's own fans are just as categorically confused, and then there's just a minority of us who actually understood what we played and know what made it successful, and also why repeating the "formula" was actually a good thing, and something Nintendo shouldn't ever have stopped doing, and because they did Zelda is now on its last legs despite TotK having a mainstream sales success.

Miyamoto's run was excellent, and everyone else could only follow his lead.

The only good Zelda games. I don't even acknowledge the 3D games. They are not good.

Ive been watching a guy who only played botw before play through OoT and MM and he's been having a blast, saying OoT deserves all the praise, better than he expected

so I feel vindicated in saying it's not just nostalgia
