27 years ago today Silent Hill was relessed. Let's celebrate one of the best horror games ever made.
>>
out of 1-3 I liked it the best, just wish the story was a little less lame

>cheryl
>could you really be in this town?
>>
it all went downhill from there for silent hill.
>>
>>733682803
Played this game for the first time like three years ago and it was phenomenal.

>>
man, i remember like uh, running and uhh, pressing X all the time
what a crazy good game or somethijg something

Silent hill starts and ends with 2.
>>
What’s the retarded reasoning for horror games releasing at the start of the year instead of September or October
>>
>>733682803
I'm glad this game will never get remade

where is that one image of harry sat while watching tv

It's my fav in the series. I'm curious to see what they'll do with the remake, SH2R despite being inferior to the OG was still alright.

Decomp project is in the works, at the 100% decomp stage. No recomp yet. PC version is gonna come boys. We're gonna come back home!

Played it recently and liked it, but was honestly fucking lost in terms of the story. I think I got the bad ending, because Harry was dead at the wheel. I don't know if it's cannon or whatever, but I love the idea that silent hill was just some subconscious fuckery before he died.
>>
>>733686496
felt cute
>>
29 years ago my dad released into my mom
First played Silent Hill in like 2019 and loved it. I'm sad the copy I had was one with a shitty blockbuster label and it eventually fell apart. I'll get a new one someday
>>
>>733682803
>Harry has very fast mobility with a wide range of movement options
>Second thing you in game do is shoot down a dinosaur
>Get so much ammo that you rapidly sprint through the game gunning down everything in you way
Horror game? This is a Dino Crisis 2 style action game.
>>
>>733686526
An aspect of the series that is really lost to most is that these games were designed to be played multiple times for the full experience. SH1 in particular is the most extreme in this case, it's story just won't make sense from one playthrough alone since so much of it is told through optional content.

Most of Team Silent by now are most likely well into their 50s and shit and their passion and talent probably vanished loooong ago, like most japanese hacks.
Lots of their passion vanishes as they get old and become just soul-less husks of their former selves.
I mean jesus fuck, just look at pic rel. Soul & passion = vanished

tldr: Team silent is long dead in more ways than one, let it go.
>>
>>733688435
SH1's opening theme song is GOD TIER and will never ever get old.
Imagine the goosebumps i got when i heard it again in Silent Hill 3 , except this time with vocals too
>>
>>733690250
He's just old, you weird fuck.
>>
>>733686526
Yes, you got the bad ending.
Don't worry, to this day, the majority of people still didn't get the plot. In fact all non-Japanese developers got it wrong every single time and had to resort to "reimagining" the plot because of it.
>>
>>733690250
Passion doesn't mean the same in Japan. They are professionals and don't get involved with certain elements of their creations. They are willing to forget everything about what they make even though it looks like their hearts were on what they did. But that is not passion. Passion is getting it right for corporate after hours and hours of trying. Then, their mind is in the next project. If they have to lie, or adapt their philosophy because producers say so, they are definitely going to do it. In fact, not doing it and thinking you "own" the right to hurt the new product's reputation by sticking to old concepts is considered dishonorable practice.

Maybe it was burnout from playing it right after 1, but I didn't get into 2. I played up till after the hospital, revisiting the park to get the item hidden at the statue. After the great world 1 built up and how it expands as you go along, 2 just felt railroaded, like you moved from setpiece to setpiece in between the "levels," so it missed the exploration and intrigue that built up from the town in the first game. Even the levels themselves, the hospital at least, didn't thrill me. It felt like I was just running from a problem to the solution back to the problem to plug in the solution.

I liked it. The Zodiac one was kinda uuuhh
>>
>>733692521
I don't think it's burnout. 2 feels a bit weird to me as well. I still really like some parts of it, I think it gets a lot better after the hospital, but before that the gameplay isn't very compelling for a few reasons.

I think SH2 tries to be more of an "experience" and when that happens actually playing it can be less enjoyable since gameplay is no longer a priority.
>>
>>733683498
Bless Takayoshi Sato, fucking madman. He worked hard to get properly credited and lived in the office to render all this stuff by himself.

On Next Fear, make sure to investigate the resort area (Annie's Bar, the motel) before going to the lighthouse.

it's a really good game and I definitely appreciated it but I wasn't impressed at all, which confirms that you just can't go back from fully developed realistic 3d open worlds to this
I'm sorry uncs but gta 3 doesn't feel the same when you experienced gta 5
>>
>>733682803
playing this game back in the day as an 11 or 12 year old was incredible. i wish i could go back. even compared to the sequels it's a unique experience with the industrial soundtrack and weird dream-like atmosphere. scariest game ever made imo, love it as much as 2 though for different reasons
>>
>>733693591
Maybe encounters get better after the hospital and spice things up. I mean, Pyramid Head was nice, I guess. But it got to where I would just fuck with him. Led to me being pleasantly surprised they had the balls to make him one-shot you. Also led to me getting him stuck on a corner during the pursuit scene and whaling on him with a lead pipe. But besides him, it seemed like everything went down in 4 pistol shots xx OTG cigarette butt stomp. It got to where I was using the stereo mixing in my headphones to run headlong in the direction of any radio interference to kill the source like it was a fucking battle theme.

Understandable.
>>
>>733694073
This zoomie is actually correct for once.
SH1 was a gem back in the day, but it's suuuuper clunky if you replay it nowadays and the controls are stiff all over the place.
Definately needs the remake treatment.. i just hope they dont fuck up Harry and Lisa's faces like those fucks at Bloober love to do.
SH1 remake could potentially be the scariest SH game ever made if done well

>>733694126

I don't want to hear you fucking retards bemoaning the state of modern games being dumbed down to slop that appeals to the lowest common denominator and then post this shit.
>>
>>733694073
GTA 3 is WAY more replayable than V. The latter is pretty, but the "realistic" movement and overly scripted missions make it such a slog.

>>733694073
>it's a really good game and I definitely appreciated it
>but I wasn't impressed at all
seems like a contradiction.

modern fully developed realistic 3d open worlds end up with their own problems at times being cluttered and boring

>I'm sorry uncs but gta 3 doesn't feel the same when you experienced gta 5
should they all feel the same? seems like that would get boring
>>
>>733682803
Great game
>>
>>733694108
It's more that there's less crap to deal with after the hospital I guess and the mood shift makes it more appealing. I think running around outside drags the game down because there's not much to find and the enemies don't feel threatening.

>Also led to me getting him stuck on a corner during the pursuit scene and whaling on him with a lead pipe.
Lel. 2 did have issues with not having any other fast enemies like 1 did for the outdoor areas. And the indoor areas still had enemies that mostly looked and functioned the same way. There's a little more variety in that after the hospital as well.

How old are you? I'm 26, played it two years ago and honestly loved it. It's my favorite in the series. The balance of dungeons and overworld exploration is perfect and the art design is among the greatest I have ever seen in a video game.

We're getting a PC port. Among the options:

>1:1 port option
>Sh2-3 style control schemes
>full camera control
>60fps without issues
>input delay removed
>first person option

The original PS version is very sluggish, and I'm certain the game has input delay (could just be the frame rate dropping). It'll have everything fixed, and either be authenic source port, or one with optional changes.

I'd just like these. I'm assuming it won't have dithering and texture wobble either which I don't really like anyway. But it'll probably be a while before something like that is playable.
>>
>>733695960
Yes the source port will have proper full 3D support, rather than the half-support that the PS has.

Someone started one for SH3, which is nice because 2-3 has major shadow glitches that are engine level. This would create a new PC port.

There's also a much farther along Fatal Frame one, and they've gotten the PC port to boot. It doesn't load character models, but it does load levels and 2D elements. Characters look like hunks of Tofu.
