He was reinvented more organically than the others and fills an actual character trope in all the games he's in (naive rookie; wise-cracking action hero; brooding prettyboy). You can't really say as much for the other RE leads, their presence at all is basically a contrivance for the plot to happen around them. Even Chris who's a different character in every single game he's in never manages to be much more compelling than a plank of wood.
