Are AIOs a meme or was I just unlucky?I got Silent Loop 3, famous for being silent, and considering just the volume it certainly is silent. But the pump makes this weak, silent, yet ever-present, and to me, annoying hum, which I could always hear in the background when browsing or watching videos etc. Yes, even when setting the pump to like 30% only.Maybe I'm just sensitive to whatever frequency the hum was.Anyway, swiched to a Noctua air cooler and nothing bothers me.
>>733693263Yes they were marketed to retards who like rainbow lights.Fans were already quiet and handled normal operating temperatures fine, but then AIOs came out to solve a problem 99.9% of users never had.
>>733693263yea they make weird fucking sounds I hate them.
>>733693345Guess that's true at least in my case.
>>733693263I had the same problem with a Pure Loop once, which I returned. The plastic mount is obviously a retarded corner cut, but I believe the problem is the motor.
>>733693263>leaks>destroy your gpulmao
AIO suck ass because any part of it can break and there's no way to tell what part broke and there's no way to fix itthe internal fan can shit out at literally any time and you just have to replace the entire system. regular fans > nothing >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> AIO
Hear me out.....Why not put the CPU in the lower part of the mobo instead? That way even if a clitty leak happens then NOTHING gets damaged.
>>733694569Hear me out.... you can buy a reversible case that can mount a motherboard upside down.
>>733693263I might have also been unlucky
I've been using the same AIO for like, 5 years nowworks great
I have a liquid freezer pro and i feel like fell for a meme as well, my reasoning for installing one is because i read that i'd need one to properly cool an x3d processor. Shit sounds like a jet plane and i'm always wary of the fact that it could drip right on my gpu and make it's way to the psu.
AAAAAAAAHH MY COMPUTER IS MAKING NOISES SAVE ME
>>733698219Noise I don't like.So I switched to noise I like.
>>733693263Thicker glass on the case makes a big difference with perceived noise, desu.
>>733698365you done did it
>>733693263I have the same AIO.It's pretty okay. There was a degree of aesthetics in my choice with it. By default, the pump was at 100%, which makes a little hum.I set it so it's slower and thus imperceptible at idle, and then kicks up when it gets hot.I figure if I'm gaming or whatever and the temps rise, I'm not listening to my computer.
>>733698745>I figure if I'm gaming or whatever and the temps rise, I'm not listening to my computer.Fine and true, but my issue was that even with 30% pump, I could hear it and be annoyed by it when browsing or listening to Youtube videos with no background music.
gigantic cooler brosrise up
>>733693263air coolers are great and do a fantastic job without the risk, and for just as cheap if not cheaperon the other hand, I got AIO last year and its functioned great for me. Don't expect to get more than 5 years from it tho
>>733699231
>>73369923113 or 14 years going strong.
>>733699353I had no issues with the temps, just the specific hum sound SL3 was making.
>AIO cooler>can leak coolant>coolant can evaporate and create bubbles in the system>bubbles destroy fins in pump that push fluid and reduce cooling effectiveness>coolant can evaporate and actually leave the system over time through, and because its a "sealed" system you cant add more>built in, unservicable pump can die or fins wear out, requiring entire AIO to be scrapped and replaced>get 4-6 years of good use and then it turns to shit>air cooler>it just werks>should last indefinitely>if fans die, get new fans and clip them on>pass it down to your grandkids
most anons don't have a CPU that would require an AIO but if you do I find it more retarded to have an 1 to 2 kg heavy fan that sacks and fucks with your clearance for worse performance than a half decent AIO
AIO's are cute once but there's no point dealing with their downsides beyond it.
>>733698094What x3d processor? I have a 9800x3d and I get by perfectly using a decade old (quiet) air coolerMaybe the actual top-of-the-line ones with more cores would run hotter, but the average Ryzen definitely doesn't need it
>>733702123Its also trivial to get lower temps with PBO.I copied some guys settings from Youtube and got 20C lower max temps in Cinebench 23 and a higher score. Running stock would be insane at this point. Also I think the guy might mean 9950X3D or some other dual CCD meme.
>>733693263>Are AIOs a memeYes>was I just unlucky?Also yes
Why did pc store clerks and internet shill this water crap so much?
>>733693263My AIO is 8 years old now and I have no complaints. Would I get another one? Probably not.
>>733693263They are a meme but I do admit that they're nice to look at.
>>733702123Yeah people buying these big AIOs to cool a CPU that might sustain 60-90 watts during gaming are definitely falling for a meme.
>>733703672why not
>>733693263>>733699020Just induce tinnitus on yourself You won't hear it no more
>>733704204how many times can you realistically play russian roulette and get away with it?
watercooling itself is a meme because1 CPUs these days are really efficient and even regular tower coolers are silent in gaming loads2 silent system itself is pointless unless you win the lottery and get a truly coil whine free GPU
>>7337046945 times.
I've used an AIO on my CPU since the Intel i5 3570k launched. Zero issues. Currently run Arctic 420mm and 280mm on my CPUs
they should make a computer case that's just a refrigerator
>>733705642that should work for about a day until the water vapour breaks your electronics
>>733705689uhh... fridge but dry, bam
>>733705689but the air inside a fridge is dry and any moisture condensates on the cold back wall and drips to the drain channel. if there were a refrigerated (why does this word not have the D in it but friDge does t.esl) computer case it too would obviously have a drainage channel.
I love my NH-D15 too much to ever get one of these things
>>733704695Not true. I have one of the lowest powered processors from ryzen 7000 series but even a twin tower cooler still hits 70C under load and its really loud (thermalright phantom spirit iirc). I googled it to make sure it wasn't just me but lots of people are saying their cpu runs hot and causes their fans to spin loudly. And I also have mine with a -15 PBO offset so its using less power than it normally would but its still loud as fuck.
>>733706718thermalright just has shit QC and often ships them with faulty or low quality fans while sending cherry picked samples to reviewers. i have that exact same cooler on 9800x3d and it's silent
>>733693263Most pumps don't actually let you control all parts manually. Install speed fan or another such tool and regulate your pump till it's quiet.
>>733693263That's crazy my AIO just kicked it like 2 days ago and I'm handing it over to DHL tomorrow for a replacement.Anyways fan fans think they're so cool but their fans don't have anime girl gifs on them for $300 so really who is laughing now
Must be a faulty units. I'm on my third AIO and I never heard the pump noise in realistic conditions
Damn, turns out 9800X3D is markedly colder than 5800X3D in gaming scenarios.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bv7Tn4zqRc
>>733707443Yes because they moved the extra cache to the bottom of the chip rather on top where it worked as a nice little insulator for the cores.
>>733698745>frontal and lower fans extract air???
>>733707901Bottoms are reverse blades. They pull air in.
>>733706556There's a reason it hasn't been done. Stop arguing nonsense
>>733693263*is completely silent*how do pumpfags live with the noise?
My Chromax (Forma Negra) is enough to cool the 9800x3D, AIO are for gays.
My PC came with a AIO cooler, and since it’s around 3 years old and I’m worried about it leaking and doing damage, I’m looking into replacing the AIO with a basic air coolerIs it likely that it can be replaced or am I stuck with what I have?
>>733709470Try looking inside.
>>733709470You can definitely swap it out for an air cooler. Just make sure your case has enough clearance and you're good to go.
>>733709470I used an AIO for over a decade and it never leaked
