The animations in DMC are alot better also like you said with the characters and how over the top insane it looks. Even though the game is alot easier it allows for alot more individual skill expression. All Ninja Gaiden players play the same way.

The combat depth in NG only existed for NHB/Sigma. The sad part about NG2 is that 90% of your moveset gets discarded on higher difficulties since you'll have to use the moves with i-frames to survive the barrage of exploding shurikens. The deves were dumb for allowing that kind of spam.

All good gameplay game need a story or a plot and it could be as braindead as possible but it does need one
Ninja gaiden had one and so do monster hunter but it become a problem when plot slow down your gameplay
Monster hunter world/wilds are a good example of to much story and plot in a gameplay heavy game

when does half-life actually take away control from you as a player and has you watch cutscenes, except for that one time the soldiers catched gordon a threw him into the waste pancake machine.
I never felt like my gameplay was distracted from by story during half-life.
Walk and talk sections? When? In the very beginning maybe, when they prepare you for your extremely dangerous, skill demanding job of pushing a cart, and then shortly before being sent to Xen, but otherwise.

The combat isn't that deep because the enemies can't air juggle you like you can do to them. A single mistake against that many foes should stunlock you.
