I think Aurthur's stance on that dumb shit is inspired completely by the famous late western film actor John Wayne, and how he supposedly said something like "I don't care if he's a queer, he plays good chess!" In regards to a fellow actor and chess buddy. I won't slander his good name with accusations of draft dodging because his acting probably inspired a lot of people to enlist, and was a net positive for the war effort, however he was still very connected to Hollywood and their budding commie faggotry, and therefore as a real man, not a great template for an actual American cowboy.

How people enjoy this game is beyond me, people shit on nu-GOW for long cutscenes and being a movie game when rdr2 is far worse in that respect but gets a pass because le open world

Yeah, but they still play up his gentleman thief trope to a million. The story would be genuinely more interesting if he simply was a self serving cutthroat, but modern morals won't allow such an archetype to be the main character of a game. That role is reserved for antagonists or villainous side characters that the plot can beat you over the head with to show how wrong they are. Modern storytelling is extremely lacking in subtlety, and very heavy handed and clumsy with messaging.

Because I would find it more interesting. The chance to play an *actually* authentic and moral free villain basically doesn't exist. Any story or game that sells you a villain protagonist can't help but redeem the protagonist in some way, and put a spin on it that basically makes him the good guy in the face of a greater evil. The novelty of it would be cool.
