It feels to me that to have a massive success nowadays you are either an established developer with a pre existing fanbase or your game is attached to an already massive franchise.And even then it just may give you a better chance of success and it's no really certainty.The one modern game that kind of got over that wall was Arc Raiders, everything about it to me screams DOA but somehow they managed to succeed even with generic characters designs and dull looking gameplay.The market is just over saturated, there are hundreds if not thousands of games releasing every month.
