Has anybody tried this game? Whats your opinion on it if you are a pirate aficionado? I just finished the demo with a friend and found it decent. Hoping for more ships and stuff but as a start to the Black Flag formula its competent enough. Are there any info about the title before it started being made? Any info about the team?

Yes, combat is undercooked af, not to say downright bad so far, but the game can be fun with friends. In the demo you can access three islands and your objective is to board Blackbeard's ship, which you need a crew and a boat to do it.

It has many problems with gear balance mostly, game basically forces you to upgrade your gear or you will be getting stat checked on the next biome. To be fair, I had more fun playing Valheim solo, than with friends, mostly because the friends are the type of retards that can only build a cube, then build a bigger cube, get tired grinding for wood/stone when they realized the bigger cube material cost rose exponentially, then they toggle creator mode, spawn everything and toggle godmode, finish building the second cube, and the cycle repeats.
