What are some games that had absolutely brilliant ideas but were executed poorly?

Smash, despite its popularity, is a mess where 95% of the content is trivial filler you look at once and then never touch again. Golden Sun is a more straightforward example with its field psynergy.

Theres some indie horror game called "A letter to you" that has this thing where you find different pictures of places in your house and when you place those pictures on a board it changes that part of your house. I thought that was kinda neat but it is never used in any interesting way except to give you more pills to find and have a monster jump scare you. Very bad game btw.

every so often i will replay pic related because it is a genuinely unique and cool idea that no one else every really tried again (maybe drawn to life) but the games themeselves are extremely kiddy and the mechanic isnt really utilized very well.

Two of those chains serve no purpose, and one needs to be shortened to funtion properly.
