how come there are no talented writers in the gaming industry now that's it's bigger than ever? looking at the credits most games are written by a group of writers that have no portfolio outside of mediocre games.

where are all the passionate writers with a strong vision of the past?

Because "writing" is for books, movies and TV shows. The last thing an average gamer wants is an annoying ass story. Most people skip all cut scenes. This has been the case since forever. People want to play a game, not watch a movie.

people love games with a good story and writing though. I agree that just adding cutscenes and expository dialogue doesn't do justice to games as a storytelling format

cause gamers are idiots who think shit like disco elysium is the peak of writing

Have you seen the slop that's put on bookshelves and theater screens? Writing is dead all around.

Because they're an insular cult who drive out actual writing talent
See what happened to Amy Hennig

There are a couple. Suda, the Disco Elysium guy, the Pathologic people, whoever wrote Infra, the Fear and Hunger guy, the Cruelty Squad guy...
