Is it true video games are inherently political?

When it makes sense within the game world/story and isn't blatantly "about" real life: OK.
When it's blatantly about real-life politics and the creators aren't even trying to hide it: Fuck off.
>>
not even slightly, this is just a leftist way of saying "this is how reality is, so everything we do is justified by default"
>>

When they say every game is political, any political statement regarding video games loses its rhetorical value. If every game is political, then I care even less about what aspects of a game are political. It's a weak blanket statement. Typical midwittery.

are games inherently explicitly political? No. Kind of annoying when they are.
are games inherently political? Yes. That's just a feature of media. Even if you don't make it so, interpretation is in the power of the consumer, not the author.

Expound on what the hell you mean by this.
>>733725919
Arguably. There's an obvious degree to which things are political that's ignored by blanket statements. I don't really care to check if this is the case for whatever GDC talk this is.

If you really want to be pendatic and make the argument that Mario is political because it doesn’t make a political statement and being apolitical is political, then yes. It’s a stupid argument, but it technically has logic to it.

is it not obvious? it's no different to me saying that X is inherently evil, therefore I am justified in Y. there's no attempt at them rationalizing the belief, just saying video games are political is meaningless in itself and solely used to justify them making everything political
>VIDEO GAMES ARE POLITICAL.
says who?
>THE WAY WE MAKE GAMES IS POLITICAL.
again, says who?
>THE WAY THAT WE TEACH OUR STUDENTS TO MAKE GAMES IS POLITICAL.
I believe them

There's a similar problem in fantasy. "There's elves and magic but THIS is where you draw the line?", sometimes called "But dragons!" fallacy.
>>
>nooooooooooooooooooo politics is only good when it conforms to my retarded chud beliefs and world-view
>>
my belief is that if you're a predator you need to be euthanized publicly

The left argues that everything is political because the mechanisms of governance and power dynamics affect all aspects of life. It is tantamount to saying that everything is based around food since nutrition and its aqcuisition is center to humanity's and society's needs and behavior. It is just a generalism they make to try and obfuscate their agendas.
>>
>>733725395
Everything is political and you should point all of it out at every chance in every game. Make sure no one at all ever can ignore the politics in it.

Find the politics in Pong. if you cannot, you have found all you need to refute the OP
