Which game is the best in (You)r opinion?
My personal favorites are VI, VII and V (in that order), specifically the SFC versions of V and VI.

shit outdated series

How's Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord?

I've also played the SFC version of that. Its honestly pretty alright, holds up pretty well but its a very vanilla dungeon crawling experience as you can imagine.
I personally think if you can only play one or want a more classic but even better experience, do V for SFC.

Also I highly recommend drawing your own maps in the more classic ones for the most part, really fun. Same for Eye of the Beholder if you try it. I am usually a JRPGfag but Wizardry are the closest I get to really enjoying a CRPG.

VII is the best and there in no other correct answer. Literal PEAK of the blobber genre. It will never be surpassed.

Fantastic taste.

It has trash dungeon design. Very common in japanese Wizardy clones of all makes. They have no idea how to work the dungeon magic like Greenberg and Bradley could.

VI is the best dungeon crawler ever made

1 is the only game I could beat, I found it comfy to turn on my PC 98 emulator, set delay to instant and blast through the floors, for some reason I didn't have the patience to do this with the others. Maybe simplicity is best

Busin 0 translation when?

I only played 8 and I heard it's the only one with the gadgeteer class.

Out of the ones I played (1, 2, 3, 5, Gaiden 1), 5 was easily the best. I had a good time with all of them. Parts of the map in 1 felt totally useless unfortunately which is the only time I really had an issue with map design but even then I find that Wiz 1 still holds up nicely.

Wizardry 7 is easily my favorite Wizardry game. You've got a big area to explore, lots of stuff tucked around the map to find, a bunch of skills and magic to work with (or max out) and a big story to work thru. I think that starting with Wiz6 is probably better, since you can transfer characters, but Wiz7 just looks so much better and you aren't locked into the dungeon, and related caverns, but are free to wander around as you like.

Do you mean just Wizardry 1, or do you mean the recent PC release from Digital Eclipse?

The Digital Eclipse version is fine. It's pretty much a great version of Wizardry 1, as you can turn the new "quality of life" features off and just play effectively a straight port, or can turn on what you like to make things easier/more tolerable. That said, a big point of Wizardry 1 is that you can port your characters into Wizardry 2 (and later Wiz3) and you can't do that with the Digital Eclipse version. It's why I'd recommend the PS1 version unless you're sure you're fine with only playing Wiz1 by itself.

If you mean "How is the original Wizardry 1 game?" then it's fine. It is a bit less about mapping out the dungeon, and a bit more about learning and understanding the game mechanics so you don't fuck things up. It's still fun, and not hard to level up characters if you do lose a party, but it can involve some harsh lessons if you fuck up something important.

That said, I'd typically recommend Wizardry 5 to new players, just because it has more mechanics that they'd expect to see (spears, bows, thief can hide) and is more what you'd expect from a dungeon crawler. I'd still say Wiz6 or Wiz7 is better if you like exploring, but Wiz5 is going to give you a better idea of the series and the genre overall.

I'm pretty sure Wizardry 8 is the only game with the Gadgeteer. It's not in Wizardry 7, and most of the JP games are based off Wizardry 5.
