The issue is that come DLC 1 and NG++ it's very obvious boss damage is going to scale to the point that without investment you are just going to get 1 shot. And with how many 360 Sweeps with vortex hitboxes 3 has (I cannot tell you how many times it has pulled me into a string that I had barely been clipped by). Combined with the trend from ER of bosses never having any downtime to let it be your "turn" along with hyper armor. Ninja will need some some of defensive scalar or it's going to largely be not worth it over just playing a samurai wep, getting 80% DR and hyper armoring through everything yourself with a trickle of life steal to keep you up.

Alright, so I'm about two hours into my first Nioh game, the very first one, I can confidently say I think this game actually sucks so far. You die in two hits, can block 2 hits before you get your guardbroken, stunned and die and you can swing your weapon 2 times before you're out of stamina. I think the main issue with Nioh 3 or really any game with a lot of hitbox weapon variety is that you will find a weapon with a few combos you like and when you try to switch to experience more of the game it will feel 'off' and you'll always long for those favorite combos, rendering the rest of the weapon variety non-usable. Some people don't have this issue apparently as they run new playthroughs with different builds but its very hard to switch.

I am really struggling to play the game past regular NG. It just feels a lot worse than the first two. The style thing is really annoying with how limited it made certain weapons. It aslo feels like so many stats are not worth it when doing later lpaythroughs. Stamina, skill, magic just seem to trump most things.
