Law of economy of purpose, Portal is a great example. The more a game focuses on being the best extrapolation of a single idea, mechanic, or theme, the better it can be realized. It’s why Tetris is basically a perfect game and why, say, Dark Souls 1, despite being considered one of the greats, is still extremely flawed.
