I rarely hear anyone talk about this one. How come?
>>
You have to cause a revolution in the industry, pay indians, or fail hugely to be talked about in the current vidya decade. This was a nice above-average game.
>>
I'm going to be honest OP, even I forgot about this game. It came out pretty late in the 3DS's lifecycle.
>>
>>733739918
too late in the 3ds lifespan, I assume
this is one of those games where I honestly think most of the complaints come from people who never played it
>>
Metroid 2 is just not a good game.
>>
>>733739918
It was just okay/good. Everyone played it and moved on.

Gameplay wise Dread did basically everything it tried to do but better.

Because the parrying ruined the game heavily and AM2R was a significantly better playing and developed game to the point it massively overshadowed its release. Parrying has been by far the worst addition to Metroid and even with Dread's fixes to it it just makes fighting enemies less fun.

Metroid II at it's core is not that good. That being said I still consider Samus Returns to be my second favorite Metroid.
>>
>>733739918
what is there to talk about? 95% of games produced are just soulless pig slop. to be consumed and then shitted out of your memory.
>>
>>733739918
because you have no friends
>>
>>733740245
Funny enough I enjoyed Metroid II the most out of it and its remakes
>>
>>733739918
Because it's just a good non controversial game, if you want to talk about it you gotta force some retarded controversy
>>
Parrying in Metroid is lame and AM2R mogged it
>>
>>733741161
That's a shame
>>
>>733739918
It came out almost ten years ago
>>
>>733741258
No it didn't it came out in 2017-
Oh fuck
>>
>>733739918
AM2R was better.

>>
>>733739918
It was broadly disappointing and /v/ played the fan game instead.
>>
It doesn't help that the game looks pretty....ugly.
They should've just ported it to Switch

This is probably the ugliest Metroid game next to Federation Force
>>
>>733739918
Because it's just alright. They did their best with a rather restrictive base game. While I consider Metroid 2 to be the best Gameboy game, in the context of the 3DS they could've done more. AM2R is also preferred by many people, though personally I find them to compliment each other rather than one being better than the other.

Nah, it looks gorgeous in a lot of areas. I despise the gameplay but visually is looks great outside of maybe the intro handful of maps and some lava areas because of the bloom.

The console doesn't create the art design

it's mediocre

Metroid 2 on the GB is fun because it's short and sweet. Doesn't overstay its welcome outside of the last chuck of the game before the final area

Metroid II and AM2R
>After a ferocious battle, Samus finds the baby metroid and in a surprising twist, she lets it live. Beautiful music plays as the player is given time to think over what is transpiring
Samus Returns
>After a ferocious battle, Samus finds the baby metroid and in a surprising twist, she lets it live. Beautiful mu- OMG WHAAAAT IT'S RIDLEY HOLY SHIT DUDE SO AWESOME! DUN DUN DUN DUN!!! DUN DUN DUN DUN!!! DUDE REMEMBER SUPER METROID!??? WE GOTTA FIGHT HIM TO GET BACK THE BABY METROID OH FUCK DUDE SO EPIC AND LOUD DUDE WOAHHHHHH FAN SERVICE!
I don't care if Proteus Ridley is a fun boss of ruins the entire ending. Also
>Crystals throughout that require the baby so you cannot 100% the game until after you rescue it
What kind of trash
>>
>>733743678
Oh you're THAT Zero Mission anon
A shame you don't like it because if you swapped it and the NES up there that's pretty much my list
>>
>>733739918
because it was garbage. sadly they kept the same niggers who made it and shat out dread
>>
>>733743819
I don't care if it's Ridley. I care that it's a fun boss fight and a much needed twist after I had just beaten AM2R.
>>
>>733744007
>Le subverted expectations
Go back
>>
>>733739918
It's mid. Not bad enough to drudge up hate forever like Other M, and not good enough to keep people praising it forever like Super Metroid.
>>
I got sick of parrying everything and dropped it.
>>
>>733743678
>no AM2R
>>
>>733744036
Without the additions Samus Returns is just AM2R with worse graphics. It needed more content and Queen Metroid is an ass boss.

>>733744307
It's beyond ridiculous to play Metroid Prime 2 if you haven't played Metroid Prime 1. The real question is whether one should start with the NES game or Zero Mission
>>
733746493
is this guy serious
>>
>>733743819
I can't be mad at Proteus Ridley, it completely shut up the fags that said Prime wasn't canon once and for all.
>>
>>733746493
nta but i don't see a reason not to start with ZM. OG metroid had aged like piss
>>
>>733747126
This desu unless you're an autistic oldhead that can play 1980s platformers without losing your mind. Once you know the layout Metroid 1 is actually fun, I beat it for the 5th time on an actual Famicom Disc System last summer, but the first playthrough was just pure ass with the wall bombing and repetitive rooms.
>>
>>733739918
it's a just ok remake of the worst 2D metroid.
>>
>>733739918
It's a remake of the weakest entry. It's fine. Both it and AM2R are similar in quality but have different focuses

faggot fake fan
ridley being upgraded to final boss status was peak and it's his best 2d fight in the series
>>733746819
this too, anti prime fags can suck it
>>
>>733739918
It's pretty good but it's probably the worst 2d Metroid that has been made thus far. It's pretty ugly, has grating sound design, and has levels padded for no reason by random puzzles in every single room.
The Metroid fights are great though, and I really like how they did the ice beam. Most of all I'm impressed how much of an improvement Dread is from SR, as backhanded as that compliment admittedly is.
>>733747814
I'm split on the Ridley fight because yes for one it's probably the best fight in the game, but it does ruin the original ending for what amounts to "oh my science remember the thing I see the thing and I'm making the soiface hype hype peak peak" (though R&D1 had done the same thing before with ZM lol)
>>
>>733747126
I think Zero Mission is way better, too. The problem is you then go way back in time, Super Metroid directly references the NES game and eventually Fusion plays a lot like Zero Mission.
>>
>>733744307
>fusion and other M on polar opposites when theyre the same game

>>
>>733739918
I was having a lot of fun with it and then I hit a section where I was basically stuck in an area without the necessary upgrade to progress. I ragequit and turned the console off, erasing a fair amount of progress. I doubt I'll go back.
>>
>>733749312
>Corruption over Echoes
Ew
>>
>>733739918
It's just alright, plus MercurySteam reuses some mechanics in Dread but improved, so it just feels like a Dread beta. Doesn't help that it gets compared to AM2R a lot too.
>>
>>733739918
Because it's the second worst game in the series after other M
>>
>>733749853
I think 1 has the best environment and 3 has the best combat. 2 was trying to do both and doesn't do either.
>>
>>733740440
I don't really mind parry in Dread. The issue with it in Samus Returns is they REALLY wanted you to use it so they bloated every enemy's HP pool to encourage it. I shouldn't have to shower a basic bat in bullets to kill it. In Dread it just feels like a nice extra tool to have.
>>
>>733750378
NTA but it also helps that you don't have to stop moving to use the Parry in Dread, so you never feel like it's getting in the way while moving around
>>
>>733750378

Yeah, the parry in Dread feels like a smooth option rather than a necessity. In Samus Returns, it got a bit tedious with how they pushed it as the main strategy, especially when simple enemies became bullet sponges without it.
>>
>>733750378
The parry in Dread definitely feels way better but it still has enemies with fairly high HP to justify it and I'm not a big fan of that because it's more fun to use missiles on hard enemies and bosses while the beam and charged beam is for weaker stuff. But with both SR and somewhat in Dread there's too much that makes it more worth parrying than just shooting them because of how they don't want to open up or take as much damage.
>>
I tried it but the original 3ds is uncomfortable to play on for many games and I don't much care to get a new one.
>>
>>733751738
Just emulate it
>>
>>733739918
>Metroid 2's structure is inherently extremely linear and repetitive
>ugly as shit even for 3DS standards
>Dread is better than it in every metric
>new bosses are awful outside of Ridley
>horrible suit design
>annoying Amiibo locked content dogshit
>will forever be compared to AM2R which is one of the greatest fan games ever
It's a decent 6/10 game but it releasing after AM2R in the later years of the 3DS did not help it whatsoever. Just play Dread if you want a MercurySteam Metroid.
>>
>>733752850
I forgot about the amiibo nonsense
So bad they had to do it again with Prime 4 lol
>>
AM2R is the superior remake, but I'm glad it exists because it lead to Dread.
Sucks that Mercury's probably gonna bite it, and even if they don't half the people that worked on Dread are likely gone at this point.
>>
>>733739918
Cause it's a remake of Metroid 2. It's a decent game but not the best Metroid has to offer. Personally I think every version of Metroid 2 is just okay at best, even AM2R.
>>
>>733752850
>>ugly as shit even for 3DS standards
I disagree. It's not a looker, but it's far from ugly by 3DS standards.

you can just access that using wumiibo on a system with cfw right?

The original Metroid II is phenomenal
