Why did it fail as a system-seller?

People want something completely fresh and generation-defining, and Nintendo released what feels like a reskin of Mario Odyssey. If they were able to push this game out in 2020 it would've left a stronger impression, but it'd been nearly 8 years since Odyssey and expectations have grown. These massively long development cycles are making it hard for anyone to deliver.

I've read and seen videos about unlocks and how they change the game drastically, but my first exposure to it was the demo and it has nothing similar to that, when I got to play the Demo all I could do was sluggishly make my way through a(cool looking) empty voxel terrain, I just didn't feel like playing anymore, don't know why they keep doing these kind of demos and then complain demos don't work.
