I havent played that many, what are the best games in this genre? there's a new one by jp devs coming out this year called magical princess which seems pretty good from the demo and it got me wanting to check out any more. obviously i've played pic related too

Try DRAPLINE, it has a demo. The premise is raising dragon girl daughterwife who has to stop a calamity. She has to eat a lot.neither here nor there, but its in a bundle with a balatro killer about dice game with a mentally unstable girl, try that too

Comparing Volcano Princess to that, it's much simpler and more forgiving though has tons of endings with unique CGs.So probably if you're looking for management and planning then the former, while the latter is more on the cute shoujo game side

Do you want to see the girl go from child to a full grown adult? Then you have much less options. You get obvious ones, like princess maker or volcano princess, but not really much else. Teaching Kuu-chan bad words is really funny, plua each replay is cool because after a while, her appearance will change depensing on how you raised her, though it doesn't really change her mannerisms or dialogue beyond that (for now?). Also made me genuinely sad seeing my first baby girl as the final boss when I did my second replay, though I do have to admit it's really cool that your daughter's highest stat will also radically alter how the final boss fights..
